Funchal, Madeira

Madeira is a verdant, mountainous island formed from a volcanic eruption and known for its namesake wine. Often described as the ‘floating garden in the Atlantic’, the island is home to the world’s largest laurel forest and Botanical Gardens where exotic indigenous plants grow.

Santa Cruz, La Palma
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700. La Palma is the greenest of the Canaries and large tracts of its laurel forests have been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The capital, Santa Cruz, is set in a sweeping natural amphitheatre and was a hub for New World explorers and merchant traders during the Age of Exploration. Its history is reflected in the 16th-century Castilian architecture and the old quarter with its wooden balconies and cobbled lanes is set around the Renaissance Plaza Espana.

Santa Cruz, Tenerife
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700. Tenerife is crowned by the World Heritage Site, Mount Teide. Its capital Santa Cruz has a mix of old and new sights, from the central square of Plaza de Espana, which was built in 1929 to the auditorium, an expressionist structure that resembles a wave.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria

The island is fringed with beautiful coves and sandy beaches to the south and wild mountains to the north, and an included panoramic excursion will show you the highlights. The subtropical capital of Las Palmas is set beside two broad bays and features cafe-lined squares and courtyards overflowing with exotic fruits, flowers and palms. The oldest sights can be seen in a trio of historic neighbourhoods: San Antonio, Triana and Vegueta. Discover over 500 years of history in the landmark Santa Ana Cathedral which encompasses Gothic, Renaissance and neoclassical styles.

Arrecife, Lanzarote

Named in Spanish after the reef that edges its shoreline, peaceful Arrecife has been the island’s capital since it took the title from nearby Teguise in 1852. This relatively sleepy port’s origins can be seen in the whitewashed fishermen cottages and 17th-century church set around the coastal lagoon of El Charco de San Gines. From Arrecife, you can discover the vast lava fields and crater-studded landscapes of Timanfaya National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

El Ferrol, Spain

El Ferrol sits on the Atlantic coast of northwestern Spain. It has been one of Spain’s most important seafaring cities for centuries and was the birthplace of General Franco. The city centre’s La Magdalena district has rows of parallel streets created during the city’s enlightenment, and two large squares that feature 18th-century houses and modernist-style buildings.
From here you could head to the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela to explore the charming old quarter and cathedral. Alternatively, you might enjoy a scenic tour of Galicia’s rugged Costa da Morte.

When the 15th-century Portuguese explorers landed on Madeira’s shores they found vast forested landscapes filled with an abundance of natural resources. In recent years the locals of Funchal have embraced industrialisation and modern development, however the island’s extensive heritage and natural attractiveness remains. On this panoramic tour, keep your camera handy as you discover the hilltop vistas and pretty seafronts that continues to captivate visitors. Leaving the port, pass Santa Catarina Park – a hub of local recreation and relaxation – and the pink façade of Quinta Vigia: official residence of the regional government. As you continue west you will quickly pass through the leisure facilities of Lido before entering the Santa Rita area. Here, look out for the large slender leaves denoting banana tree before arriving at your first photo stop – a viewpoint overlooking Funchal. Continue southeast and climb to the Neves viewpoint, located approximately 900 feet above sea level. Here, your views extend across the city and out to sea, punctuated by rising rocky hills. Returning to Funchal, drive along the old road past the embroidery factory and local market before a glimpse of Autonomy Square. The square features a magnificent monument that seems to burst out of the ground, designed by Ricardo Velosa to celebrate the island’s autonomy. Return to the ship.
Scenic La Palma - Included Excursion

Take in the highlights of La Palma on a scenic drive around the island, beginning in the capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma. From here you continue to the Mirador de la Concepcion, stopping for photos at this viewpoint before continuing to the Caldera de Taburiente, one of the largest extinct volcanic craters in the world. It is more than five miles in diameter and in places over 5,000 feet deep. Pause for photographs. From here, your coach takes you through the western part of La Palma to Los Llanos de Aridane, the largest town on the island, which has a population of over 20,000. Enjoy wonderful views of Los Llanos, picturesquely surrounded by cacti and banana plantations, before returning to your ship via the town of El Paso.

This excursion showcases the architectural wonder and vistas that continue to attract visitors to Santa Cruz today. You’ll travel through the main Santa Cruz avenue known as ‘Las Ramblas’ to the now disused bullring, which was built in 1893 and now stands as a cultural landmark as there has been no bullfighting there since the 1950s. You’ll also see the grand façade of ‘Mencey Hotel’ and the beautiful ‘Garcia Sanabria’ park before travelling to La Laguna, Tenerife’s old capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you can enjoy some time at leisure or a brief orientation from the guide. Afterwards, re-board your coach and continue to the Tenerife Auditorium in Santa Cruz. This piece of expressionist architecture was designed by Santiago Calatrava, whose buildings can be seen around the world and has become an internationally recognised symbol of the Canary Islands. Afterwards you’ll travel back to the ship.

Explore the pretty village of Teror, with its whitewashed houses and ornate balconies. Accompanied by a guide, this short tour will visit the outside of the cathedral of Our Lady of the Pine. It is considered one of the most important churches in the Canaries after shepherds saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary nearby. You’ll then continue to the town of Arucas, which boasts the Parish Church of San Juan Bautista, which was created by master stonemasons in the area and has seen the town declared an area of historic-artistic interest. A visit to the city would not be complete without a visit to the Duchess Gardens. Enjoy a stroll through the Romantic style gardens, filled with Canarian and tropical plants before heading back to the ship.
Monte and Botanical Gardens

Leave the pier and drive towards the village of Monte, known for its collection of fine properties and gardens, perched on a hill above Funchal. Monte’s twin towered Church (18th century) is one of the area’s most prominent landmarks. In the centre of the high altar of the church stands the statue of Our Lady of Monte, credited with being the source of many miracles. Make your way to the cable car station in Monte and take a ride to the botanical gardens. Enjoy the views across the Valley of João Gomes River before reaching the gardens. The Botanical Gardens are located on the eastern edge of Funchal and is one of the best examples of Madeiran landscaped gardens. Located in the grounds of a former private house, the gardens are host to a profusion of plants and flowers, from all parts of the world, which thrive in the island’s temperate climate.
Madeira Sidecar Experience - Twin Occupancy

Explore Madeira by riding around the island in a motorcycle sidecar or as a pillion passenger. Your bike will be in the capable hands of an experienced rider who is also a qualified local guide, and who will take you on a personal, hassle-free tour of the island’s highlights without being part of a large group. When you leave the ship and meet your guide, you will be offered the choice of two itineraries, one visiting the south-east coast and the other the south-west coast. The south-east tour visits Funchal City Centre, the Old Town and the viewpoints of Pináculo and Garajua. The south-west tour visits the town of Câmara de Lobos, the village of Estreito de Câmara do Lobos and the viewpoint of Cabo Girão. However, unscheduled stops can be made, allowing you to discover the charms of Madeira in an unpredictable way. This excursion can also be booked as a sole occupancy. A Taste of Madeira

Leave the pier and head to the belvedere of Pico dos Barcelos, which offers a fantastic panorama. Continue next to the picturesque fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, which was once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. Known for its quaint red-roofed houses and brightly-painted fishing boats, its name means ‘The Sea Wolves’ Lair’. To reach Cabo Girão, your coach takes you through pine woods and eucalyptus forests. Cabo Girão is said to be the second-highest sea cliff in Europe: it rises right out of the sea, and the viewpoint where you stop for photos offers breathtaking views along the coast to Funchal, and out to the distant horizon. Your journey then takes you up into the mountains, passing the vineyards of Estreito de Câmara Lobos, one of the most important winegrowing areas of the island. Many of the vines can be seen growing on terraces along the steep valleys that you pass on the way. Arriving at the Adega da Quinta Restaurant, at Quinta do Estreito, you can enjoy stunning views over the coast. Nearby, you can see the original wine cellar where barrels of Madeira wine, local brandy and ‘ginja’ - a sweet cherry liqueur - are stored. Sample some local wine and Portuguese cheese here before heading back to the ship.
Madeira Jeep Adventure

Explore Madeira on this half-day 4x4 excursion. Leaving the port, you will travel through mountains, across small rivers and along valleys capturing scenic views of the island. Make stops at the Boca da Corrida and Cabo Girão viewpoints, offering expansive panoramic vistas. Also visit the parish of Jardim da Serra, renowned for its botanical diversity, where you can enjoy a refreshment. Throughout this tour, you'll have ample opportunities to discover and learn about the island's native flora and fauna, including the Laurissilva forest.
Câmara de Lobos & Cabo Girão

Set in a peaceful cove, Camara de Lobos features a cluster of white-washed buildings with red-tiled roofs overlooking the sea. Leaving the port, travel west, along the winding coastline towards the picturesque fishing village of Camara de Lobos. Once painted by Sir Winston Churchill, enjoy time at leisure to explore the historic centre of the town. After your visit, your tour continues with a drive towards Cabo Girao, passing by vineyards, steep valleys and pine and eucalyptus forest. Enjoy a stop at Cabo Girao, the second highest sea cliff in the world, for a breathtaking view along the coast and over Funchal. After, return to Funchal, stopping at the Farmer’s Market for some free time before reaching your waiting ship.
Sunset Wine Tasting at Quinta de Santa Luzia
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Quinta de Santa Luzia is a traditional working Quinta that has been in the Blandy Family for seven generations. Located near the centre of Funchal, the vines here are cultivated in trellis form and on large terraces. This family-owned vineyard has been recognised for its efforts to improve to more sustainable methods of viticulture and the protection of biodiversity in the vineyard. From the port, take a short drive to the vineyard where you will enjoy a guided tour of the vineyards, gardens and bio farming area. This will be followed by a tasting of several Blandy’s Madeira wines paired with local snacks, including traditional honey cake and handmade chocolates. Enjoy a tasting in one of the traditional houses inside the Quinta’s terrace as the sun sets over Funchal Bay. Return to the ship in the evening.
Whale & Dolphin RIB Adventure
Walking difficulty: Strenuous Activity
This tour aims to show you whales and dolphins in the sea around Madeira, accompanied by a marine biologist and skipper. Before leaving, there will be a short introduction before your adventure begins; then set off on your RIB, fully equipped for observing dramatic marine life. Thanks to lookouts on land who will guide your boat towards the mammals, you will likely see Short-finned Pilot Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and Common Dolphins that will leap and jump from the water displaying their acrobatic moves as they swim alongside the boats. If you are lucky, you may also spot a Risso’s Dolphin, a Beaked Whale or an Orca, all of which are occasional visitors to Madeira.
Levada Walk
Walking difficulty: Strenuous Activity
Following a 'Levada' trail is one of the most enjoyable ways of seeing Madeira. These irrigation channels were created in the 19th century by the Portuguese settlers, who painstakingly carved them out of the rock by hand. Designed to carry fresh water from the north to the drier southern regions of the island, they helped to create many of the lush landscapes that can be seen today. This guided walk will follow the course of The Levadas for over three miles, allowing you to admire the verdant plants, mountain views and green farmland that cover Madeira. You will first be driven to Vale Paraiso, where you set off for your two-hour walk. The first half will be a gentle stroll over fairly level ground, rising to the Camacha area with its great views. The second stretch will take you all the way to Rochão, where you rejoin the coach for your return journey to the port.
Los Tilos Forest and Coastal Walk
Walking difficulty: Strenuous Activity
Venture through Los Tilos Forest, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve home to a profusion of ferns, trees and other indigenous species. The tour begins with a short panoramic drive up into the hills to Mirador de la Concepcion, a vantage point with views over the city. From here, it is a 50-minute drive to Los Tilos, which literally translated means ‘laurel forest’. You then set out on a one-mile walk through this forest of ancient laurels, lime trees and giant ferns. During your trek, your knowledgeable guide will identify specimens and explain points of interest along the way. Emerging from Los Tilos, continue your walk along a stretch of coast to San Andres y Sauces before returning to your ship by coach.
La Hacienda and Silk Museum
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Sit back and enjoy the lush scenery as you travel along mountain roads, passing vineyards and banana plantations en route to El Paso. Here, a short stroll takes you to the silk museum where you can witness silk being weaved by a 500-year-old process - the only place in Europe where this method is still used. Afterwards, it is time to visit a restored 17th-century sugar estate, now the small and luxurious Hotel Hacienda de Abajo. Surrounded by rich vegetation and botanical gardens, this historic manor house hosts a collection of art on display, including sculptures, paintings, furniture and porcelain, in addition to some tapestries. Fresh fruit punch will be served on arrival before your guide will take you on a tour of the main rooms. Afterwards, a selection of teas will be served on a terrace overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, weather permitting. On your return journey to Santa Cruz, a short photo-stop will be made at La Glorieta Square, allowing you to feast your eyes on the mosaics by local artist Luis Morera.
Off the Beaten Track Adventure
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Leaving the pier, head towards the hills of Las Breñas, crossing thick vegetation and looking over Cumbre Nueva, the island’s main mountain range. Heading into Cumbre Nueva, continue across the National Park towards the Refugio del Pilar, until you reach the Mirador del Jable viewpoint where you stop to observe the Aridane Valley, the Caldera del Tabuiente and Cumbre Nueva hills. Continuing through volcanic landscapes and off-road tracks, pause at the San Juan volcanic area, where you will be able to see a flowing lava river before crossing a large area of Canary Island pine. Make a short stop at a picnic area to enjoy a typical traditional snack before continuing to the town of Fuencaliente, where the San Antonio and Teneguia volcanoes are located. Your return journey back to the ship will be along normal, steady roads.
Santa Cruz de La Palma Open Roof Tour

Embark on a scenic drive in an open top minibus to the Mirador de la Concepcion on the outskirts of Santa Cruz de la Palma. Marvel at the panoramas over the town and north coast of the island before heading onto the Santuario Virgen de Las Nieves, located in the highest part of the town and one of the most popular shrines in the capital. Inside the small, whitewashed church, you’ll find the island’s most sacred icon, the Virgin Mary of the Snows - the patron saint of the island. You’ll head to the Barco de la Virgen in the main town of Santa Cruz de la Palma, a replica of Columbus’ Santa Maria. Take a guided walk to discover the streets and squares including Plaza Alameda, Plaza San Francisco, and Placeta Borrero. Admire the two-storey Renaissance-style Town Hall and the 17th century church Iglesia del Salvador before reboarding the bus to return to your ship.
Gardens of the Valley
Walking difficulty: Strenuous Activity
The abundant colour and sheer variety of plants, flowers and vegetation that thrive in the Canary Islands is the focus of this delightful excursion. First take a drive along the island’s main highway to Puerto de la Cruz, an old colonial town on the north coast. Take some free time to explore the town at your leisure. Following free time, the first garden you visit is the Jardin Botanico, which was founded by a royal decree of King Charles III of Spain in 1788. He wanted to create a nursery where plants, shrubs and flowers brought by the Conquistadors from the New World could acclimatise to Spanish soil. Many of the plants here are the original specimens, delivered shortly after the opening of the garden. The centrepiece is a huge South American fig tree whose enormous branches and roots have created an outlandish treehouse. From the Jardin Botanico take a drive to the Orchid Gardens of Sitio Litre, which have welcomed many distinguished visitors including the famous crime writer Agatha Christie. These tranquil gardens are bursting with colour and have the largest collection of orchids in the Canary Islands. Here enjoy tea or coffee with pastries and perhaps browse the shop before the return drive to Santa Cruz.
Easy Teide
Walking difficulty: Easy Activity
Discover Tenerife's most striking natural feature, Mount Teide, without the exertion of a demanding hike. Rising to a height of 12,000 feet, it is the highest peak in Spanish territory and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Your excursion begins with a drive towards the old colonial capital of La Laguna, situated in the Aguere Valley amidst beautiful surroundings. From La Laguna, journey south along the base of the mountain range, through pine forests and foothills to Teide National Park. Declared a national park in 1954, the park includes an enormous volcanic crater measuring over 29 miles in circumference. The park is situated at an altitude of over one mile above sea level: in winter, snow and gale force winds often close roads through it. During the summer months this arid landscape, which gives visitors the impression of having walked onto the set of a western movie, can reach temperatures of over 37°C! At the heart of the crater you visit the National Parador Visitors' Centre, and stand in the shadows of the majestic Roques de García. During the course of the tour, a stop will also be made for refreshments. On your return journey to Santa Cruz there will be several photo stops where you can savour the breath-taking scenery.
Mercedes Forest and Pretty La Laguna
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
After leaving the busy harbour of Santa Cruz, enjoy a drive along Maritime Avenue to the charming fishing village of San Andrés, one of the island's oldest settlements, dating from 1497. The village is renowned for its stunning golden beach, Las Teresitas, which was made partly from 238,000 tons of sand imported from the former Spanish Sahara. Pause for photographs here before driving on to El Bailadero, the highest point in this area, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of a wild landscape. Through a tunnel you then reach the other side of the Anaga Mountains and the hidden village of Taganana, where you stop to sample some local wine and cheese. Once refreshed, continue through the living museum of Mercedes Forest to Pico del Ingles, the Mirador del Carmen and Cantera: all offering outstanding views of the wild countryside and northern coast. You return to Santa Cruz via La Laguna, perhaps pausing to visit the 18th-century 'Iglesia del Cristo' (Christ Church) if a service is not taking place.
Whale Watching By Catamaran
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Leave the pier in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and drive towards the yacht harbour at Puerto Colon in Playa de Las Americas. Once there, board a catamaran for a trip to visit the pilot and sperm whales that lurk in the waters around the island of Tenerife all year round. These large mammals live in groups of between eight and 15 individuals: each group is dominated by a big male about 26 feet long, weighing roughly 5,500 pounds. You may also see dolphins or other species of whale if you are lucky! During the boat trip, rolls and drinks will be served and you will have some free time to swim if you wish. After this marine watching experience, return to Playa de Las Americas and travel back by road to the pier.
Teide Observatory, Lunch and Cable-Car

This tour begins with a drive to the world’s largest solar observatory, located on Mount Teide in Izaña. Here, you will have a unique chance to tour this institution and look closely at one of its telescopes to learn how it works. Following your tour of the observatory, stop for a traditional tapas lunch at a local restaurant with views of Mount Teide. There will be some free time to relax or purchase some of the local produce on sale before continuing to the lower station of the Mount Teide cable-car. Make sure you have your camera close to hand as you take this eight-minute ride to the mountain’s 12,198-foot summit. You have free time here to take in the vistas of sprawling mountains punctuated by rugged petrified rock. Then return to the lower station to re-join your coach for a scenic drive that takes in more of this unique island’s countryside, before finally arriving back at the port.
Tea at the Orchid Gardens

Set off for a scenic drive through north Tenerife as you head for the peaceful haven of the Orchid Gardens. En route you’ll pass through Oratava Valley, pausing for photographs at the Humboldt Viewpoint. Have your camera ready to record the beautiful views here which stretch from Mount Tiede to the coast of Puerto de la Cruz. The viewpoint is named after the explorer and naturalist Alexander Humboldt, who visited the island in 1799. He also visited the garden that previously stood on the site of what is now the Orchid Gardens, established in 1774 and the oldest on the island. Upon arrival at the gardens, you will be welcomed by one of the owners who will act as your guide. In their company explore the garden with its water feature, Dragon Tree, believed to be over 400 years old, and of course the collection of stunning and beautiful orchids, housed and displayed in a curving walkway. As well as yourself, past visitors to the garden have included the author Agatha Christie and the prolific and celebrated Victorian botanical artist, Marianne North. Afterwards, take time out to relax in the Orchid Gardens’ café as you enjoy complimentary refreshments, before returning to your ship.
Essence of Gran Canaria

Discover the volcanic origins of the Canary Islands on this trip to Gran Canaria's Bandama Crater, followed by a visit to Duchess Gardens. First take the 30-minute journey up to the crater, an extinct volcano which rises nearly 1,900 feet above sea level. Take in the wonderful island views here, before travelling to Teror, a charming town with whitewashed houses, red-tiled roofs and ornate carved balconies. Stroll through the cobblestone streets and enter the Church of Our Lady of the Pine, dedicated to the patron saint of Gran Canaria. Continue on to Arucas and make a stop at Los Jardines de la Marquesa (The Duchess Gardens), where there are numerous tropical and sub-tropical flowers, plants and trees from around the world. Enjoy tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes here in this relaxing setting, before heading back to the port, making a photo stop at the city of Altavista along the way.
Hike the spectacular Bandama Crater

The Bandama Caldera is one of the youngest volcanoes on the Canarian archipelago. Its crater is over 650 feet deep, has a diameter of almost three-quarters of a mile and was last active about 3,000 years ago, when a series of eruptions took place that gave the Santa Brígida district its distinctive topography. Leaving the pier, your coach will take you up towards the volcano. Here you begin your walk along a green path that takes you right into the heart of the Bandama Crater. At the very centre of the crater you will see an abandoned homestead - this was formerly the only inhabited volcanic crater in the world! From here you can enjoy amazing views of the interior of the crater and see the effects of the eruptions. After resting for a while, continue walking up the side of the crater: depending on the weather, you should be rewarded at the end with a wonderful panoramic view of the northern part of Gran Canaria. It will then be time to re-join your coach and transfer back to the port.
Leisurely Gran Canaria

Sit back and enjoy some of the sights of Gran Canaria at a leisurely pace as you take in coastal views, panoramic vistas and a visit to Puerto Mogan. Start by heading south towards Playa del Ingles - the island's main resort. En route stop at Maspalomas sand dunes with their rippling sands and sinuous curves. Next, you'll pause at a viewpoint overlooking modern Puerto Rico apartments built into the side of the hills that rise from the shoreline. Your tour concludes with a visit to the resort of Puerto Mogan. This pretty resort with its backdrop of hills, charming white houses festooned with Bougainvillea and beachside promenade, offers the perfect place to enjoy some free time. Perhaps stroll along the harbour, explore the shops or just take it easy in one of the cafes before returning to your ship.
North Island Towns & Flavours of Agaete Valley

Travel to the historic town of Arucas, which features the impressive parish church of San Juan, the Plaza de la Constitution and the Municipal Market. Enjoy a walk through this charming town and learn about its history before your tour continues to the town of Firgas. This picturesque Canarian village has a long history connected to water, and today an artificial waterfall flows down the steps in the centre of the old town, Paseo de Gran Canaria, providing a lovely place to walk. From Firgas, you’ll head towards The Finca La Laja and Bodega Los Berrazales, a more than 200-year old farm known for its wine, coffee and oranges. You can learn about their coffee-making and wine-making process, and enjoy a tasting of both products.
César Manrique Foundation

This excursion gives you the chance to discover the genius of César Manrique, Lanzarote’s most celebrated artist, born in Arrecife in 1919. It is thanks largely to his vision and influence that Lanzarote has remained a unique island, unspoilt by billboards, high-rise buildings or pylons. Designed and constructed around five volcanic caves, his equally-unique home was converted, shortly before his death in 1992, to a foundation dedicated to the study and conservation of Lanzarote’s artistic heritage. The foundation contains important collections not only of Manrique’s own paintings, sculptures and ceramics but also works of other artists including Picasso and Miró. After leaving your ship and travelling to Tahiche, you visit the Cactus Garden, containing over 1,100 varieties of cacti in a former quarry, which incorporates further examples of the artist’s sculpture and murals. Then visit the Cesar Manrique Foundation and the International Museum of Modern Art in San José Castle, where you can enjoy refreshments and view more collections of paintings and sculptures, including work by leading contemporary artists.
El Cuervo Volcanic Trek

Start your tour by travelling through Puerto del Carmen to the outskirts of the National Park of Timanfaya. Here you stop to begin your trek in the famous Cuervo Volcano (The Ravens' Boiler). A magnificent view awaits you of the crater that was once visited by Alexander Von Humboldt, the great Prussian naturalist and philosopher: it is certainly a view not to be missed and this wonderful sight will be sure to capture your imagination. After the trek, continue to the wine country of La Geria, which is very close to the volcano. Re-join your coach for the return journey to your ship.
Fire Mountain with Volcano BBQ

Lanzarote is punctuated by over 300 volcanic cones overlooking blackened lava fields which were created between 1730 and 1736 when almost a third of the island was covered in lava. Even today, volcanic activity can be observed in Timanfaya National Park and on this excursion, your BBQ meal will be cooked using the very same heat source that altered the island’s physical shape, as well as its agricultural and cultural identities. Your tour vehicle leaves the port and having passed through the whitewashed villages of Puerto del Carman, Mache and Yaiza, you will arrive at the national park. Here, you will transfer to one of the national park’s coaches for a drive around the edges and slopes of the volcanoes. Often described as a ‘lunar landscape’, Apollo astronauts even studied the area to better understand what the moon’s surface might look like. Capture the red, yellow and blue rock formations on your camera during photo stops as you are guided across this private land (due to its exclusivity, traffic will be very minimal). See the lava and formations before arriving at ‘El Diablo’, a restaurant housed within one of César Manrique’s buildings. His aim was to connect modern structures on Lanzarote with the natural volcanic landscape and the restaurant provides a 360-degree panorama across the surrounding rugged landscape. Enjoy a volcano BBQ, cooked by the heat contained just below the surface, accompanied by red or white wine, soft drinks, beer or water, followed by ‘Bienmesable’ – a traditional Lanzarote dessert. Afterwards, travel south for views across the geologically fascinating El Golfo and Los Hervideros, boasting caves and craters created by the flow of lava. Take in Janubio, where vegetables are grown in fields of lava pellets before arriving at one of La Geria’s wine cellars to taste some of the local Malvasia wine before you return to the ship.
Fire Mountain Timanfaya National Park

Lanzarote has a fascinating history, one of its most notable events being the eruptions of the 1730s, when the volcanoes in the Timanfaya area erupted for six years and covered nearly a third of the island with lava. This volcanic landscape is revealed in Timanfaya National Park, also known as ‘Fire Mountain’, which will be your first destination after driving through the whitewashed villages of Puerto del Carman, Macher and Yaiza. Once at the national park, begin a tour of the craters and lava beds in this lunar-like terrain. At Islote de Hilario, enjoy a demonstration of the latent power of the volcano, as wood is ignited and steam produced by using the heat just below the surface. Afterwards travel south, enjoying panoramic views of El Golfo, a beach with notable geological features, and the ‘Boiling Waters’ of Los Hervideros, a series of caves and blowholes eroded from the lava flow. Weather permitting, you will then stop at Janubio with its salt pit crater, where vegetables are grown in fields of lava pellets and grapes are cultivated in cinder pits. Then return to your ship via the aloe vera farm at Yaiza.
Scenic Lanzarote

After leaving your ship, travel inland to Teguise, the island’s old capital that was founded in the 15th century by the Conquistadors. On days when there is no market, you will be able to admire the beautifully restored houses and picturesque square. Continue to Caleta Famara Beach, which Lanzarote artist César Manrique frequented as a child, and stop for photographs before passing through the typical Canarian villages of Soo, La Santa, Tinajo, Tiagua and Mozaga. Stop at the Peasants' Monument (Monumento al Campesino), which is 50 feet high and was created by Manrique in 1968 as a tribute to the work of the island’s peasant farmers. You then pass through Puerto del Carmen, the island’s biggest resort, on the way back.
Sea Trekking – Walk the Ocean Floor

The Scenic Coast of Galicia

Discover the natural attractions surrounding El Ferrol today, driving along the coast with its typical Galician villages and enjoying views of the nearby beaches, forests and estuaries. Begin with a panoramic tour of El Ferrol, passing the old military camp and the neo-Classical quarter which housed naval officers in the 18th century. You then travel along the coast to Pontedeume, which presents you with views of the forest and estuaries: a short stop will be made here to give you an opportunity to take photos of the scenery. Arrive at the mouth of the estuary for refreshments in a local restaurant before the journey back to El Ferrol.
Walk The Way to Santiago

Visit Santiago de Compostela on foot, just like a pilgrim. Leaving the port, travel by coach to your starting-point along the Way of St James, before you begin your stroll alongside meadows, farms and eucalyptus groves towards Santiago. This walk will be long enough to give you a good impression of what it is like to walk the Camino de Santiago across Northern Spain. Arriving in Santiago - the end of the Way and the goal of any pilgrim - your guide will give a brief explanation about the cathedral and other places associated with the pilgrimage. After your walk, enjoy a light tapas lunch. Then there is time to discover this historic city at your leisure before returning to the port.
A Day in Santiago de Compostela

Your stop in El Ferrol gives you the opportunity to visit the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela with its old quarter and cathedral that dominates Obradoiro Square. The cathedral has become the most popular site of Christian pilgrimage after Jerusalem and Rome; on your visit, you will see the Jubilee Door (only opened each Jubilee Year) and the traditional tomb of St James. At Obradoiro Square, you will be told more about the Cathedral and plaza and then enjoy some time at leisure. Afterwards, enjoy a light tapas lunch at the Parador de los Reyes Catolicós. Scenic La Coruña and Roman Lighthouse

Enjoy a drive through Galicia to the fishing port and provincial capital of La Coruña. Formerly occupied by the Phoenicians, Romans and Moors, this historic city has retained many traces of its past, and is well known in Spain for the distinctive glazed balconies or ‘miradores’ that adorn many of its buildings. Your guide will show you these on a panoramic tour, which includes a photo-stop at the Torre de Hercules. Although rebuilt many times over the centuries, this dates from Roman times and is believed to be the World’s oldest working lighthouse. Your tour finishes with a stop in the Plaza de Maria Pita, named after a woman who helped defend the city against an attack by Sir Francis Drake in 1589. You have free time here and may wish to view the City Hall, with its three domes dominating the square, or the nearby churches of San Jorge and San Nicolás, before returning by coach to your ship.
