Gran Canaria Cruises
Gran Canaria cruises 2025
You can walk into Las Palmas from Gran Canaria’s main cruise port. As you stroll through the Santa Catalina Park, you’ll enter a subtropical city where cafe-lined squares sit beside charming courtyards brimming with exotic flowers and palm trees.
But that’s not all. This ‘continent in miniature’, is also home to soft sandy beaches, rugged mountains, forests and even deserts, all packed within 600 square miles.
Find out how you can experience the beauty of Gran Canaria on an all-inclusive Saga cruise.
Why should you cruise to Gran Canaria?
Impressive landscapes
With so many landscapes found on one island, Gran Canaria offers plenty of adventurous experiences, such as a hike around the 3,000-year-old volcanic crater, Bandama Caldera and a Jeep tour up the Arucas Mountain.
Shopping
There’s also plenty of places to explore at your leisure. You can stroll along the golden sand of La Canteras beach and walk the promenade to browse the shops and boutiques along the beachfront.
History and architecture
Perhaps you’ll head to Poema del Mar, a popular aquarium located near the cruise port, or venture into the historical quarter of Vegueta, where the cobbled streets are lined with traditional Spanish architecture.
Sandy beaches
After an exciting day exploring Gran Canaria, before heading back to your ship you could hire a waterfront hammock and dose off to the sound of the waves rippling against La Canteras’ shore.

North Island Towns & Flavours of Agaete Valley
Travel to the historic town of Arucas, which features the impressive parish church of San Juan and the Plaza de la Constitution.
Enjoy a walk through this charming town and learn about its history before your tour continues to the town of Firgas. This picturesque Canarian village has a long history connected to water, and today an artificial waterfall flows down the steps in the centre of the old town, Paseo de Gran Canaria, providing a lovely place to walk.
From Firgas, you’ll head towards The Finca La Laja and Bodega Los Berrazales, a more than 200-year old farm known for its wine, coffee and oranges. You can learn about their coffee-making and wine-making process, and enjoy a tasting of both products.
Hike the Bandama Caldera
The Bandama Caldera is one of the youngest volcanoes in the Canaries. And this active excursion will take you along the green paths into the heart of the crater to see an abandoned homestead, before ascending for spectacular views over the north of Gran Canaria.
Essence of Gran Canaria
On this rewarding excursion you’ll stop first to visit the epic Bandama Caldera. After taking in the views of the volcano, move on to explore more of the island’s highlights such as the old town of Teror and the beautiful Duchess Gardens.
Puerto de Mogan and Submarine Adventure
During the excursion you will embark on a submarine adventure for a unique underwater experience. Seated in the submarine, travel 20-25 metres underwater and capture the underwater world of Puerto Mogan through a porthole.
Afterwards there will also be an opportunity to explore Puerto Mogan with time at leisure, perhaps take a stroll through its bustling marina or relax in one of the local cafes or restaurants.
Gran Canaria cruising tips
The currency used in Gran Canaria is the euro and we recommend bringing enough cash to purchase souvenirs and snacks during your independent exploration ashore.
The best time to visit Gran Canaria is winter, when the temperature is mild and its cities are quieter. This gives you the best opportunity to immerse yourself in true Gran Canarian culture and explore in comfort.
Gran Canaria’s national language is Spanish, although English and German are widely spoken across the island.
The main cruise port in Gran Canaria is in its capital city of Las Palmas, located on the north-east coast of the island. The port sits right by the city centre, making it easily accessible on foot.
The climate is mild in Gran Canaria, with winter temperatures averaging around 17°. We recommend packing light pieces that can be layered and flat walking shoes. And don’t forget the suncream!
