5 Reasons to Cruise the Canary Islands with Saga

From their tropical blooms and colourful summer fiestas to the glorious winter sun and sandy beaches, the Canary Islands are a beautiful destination to discover.

But it’s extra special when you join a no-fly cruise with Saga aboard Spirit of Adventure or Spirit of Discovery.

1. Experience several islands in one trip

Unlike a standard holiday where you’d experience just one destination, on a Saga Canaries cruise you’ll be able to explore several islands and discover all their wonderful contrasts. The cruises all depart from the UK too, with no flying or airport visits required!

Plus, not only will you visit the Canaries, you can also stop in other ports such as Funchal in Madeira, La Coruña in Spain and Lisbon in Portugal. Some even include stops at the Cape Verde islands, the Azores and exotic Morocco too.

2. Discover out-of-this-world landscapes

Every Canary Island offers unique volcanic landscapes to explore. Trek Lanzarote’s lunar-like plains, look out for the wildlife in Fuerteventura’s nature reserves, hike the mountains of Gran Canaria, and so much more.

Or if you’re more at home on a white or black sand beach, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to do that. Just remember the sun cream, even in winter…

3. Enjoy exciting excursions

Saga’s destination team curate special excursions, for unique ways to see the Canaries.

You could experience a memorable barbeque cooked from the heat of Fire Mountain in Lanzarote, hike the Bandama Crater and admire the fairy tale views of Garajonay National Park. If you’d prefer something more laid back, you might enjoy tea and cake in the Orchid Garden of Tenerife or seeking out historic gems on guided tours.

Plus, there will be plenty of time for independent exploration. From autumn 2023 there will be e-bikes on board, giving you the opportunity to explore the islands however you’d like!

4. Take in the views from your balcony cabin

Imagine waking up, opening the curtains, and stepping outside to admire the view with a drink, listening to the waves lap against the ship… What could be a more relaxing way to begin a day of exploring?

Every cabin on Saga’s ships have their own balcony, so you’ll always have a bit of outside private space to enjoy the views and fresh air. The Canaries are especially beautiful at dawn and dusk.

5. Look out for the marine wildlife

Experts and volunteers from wildlife charity ORCA join selected Saga’s Canary Island cruises. The organisation studies whales and dolphins to understand their threats, then the research is used to implement change in those areas.

All guests on board can be a part of this vital work by assisting the specialists who monitor these special mammals from our ships. During these fun ‘deck watches’ you’ll gain a fascinating insight into the lives of whales, dolphins and porpoises and even be in with a chance of spotting them yourself.

Enjoying the Saga cruise experience

Cruising to the Canaries with Saga offers an all-inclusive luxury experience. It starts from your own front door with an included chauffeur service, picking you up and taking you to the port.

Then step aboard and enjoy first-class service, included speciality dining, and included excursions at selected ports. It really is a Canary Island holiday like no other.
