Funchal, Madeira

Spectacular Funchal, Madeira’s capital, sits in a great natural amphitheatre, facing the sea. Enjoy our included panoramic trip around the island; join a team of local experts for a RIB ride to look for whales and dolphins; take the cable car to the Monte Palace Tropical Garden for wonderful floral displays and magnificent views. For the brave, there’s the famous Carros de cesto do Monte – a 4-kilometre ride back downhill in a wicker basket, pushed by two ‘drivers’ using their rubber boots as brakes!

Porto Grande, Cape Verde

The Cape Verde Island chain is a captivating blend of mountains, beaches and peaceful seaside villages. From Porto Grande, discover Mindelo, the cultural hub, with its distinctive Latin vibe. Porto Praia, Cape Verde

This historic centre, capital of Cape Verde, lies on the southern coast of Santiago Island. Its colourful market overflows with exotic fruits; a real taste of island life. Visit the former capital, Rieira Grande, to see the UNESCO-listed centre which was the first colonial settlement in the tropics.

Banjul, The Gambia

Capital city Banjul’s National Museum is dedicated to Gambian culture and history, whilst the colourful, bustling Royal Albert Market gives you a taste of local life today. Nearby Abuko Nature Reserve has colourful birdlife and exotic wildlife, including crocodiles and monkeys.

Dakar, Senegal

This is one of the continent’s largest cities and a leading trade center. Visit the Grand Mosque of Dakar in the Medina, see the ‘Pink Lake’, or visit Gorée Island, site of one of the earliest European settlements in Western Africa.

La Coruña, Spain

El Ferrol, Spain

One of Spain’s most important seafaring cities for centuries, Ferrol is also one of the starting points for pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela. The La Magdalena district, within easy walking distance of the port, has beautiful 18th century houses with distinctive glass-fronted balconies.

3,000-year-old Cadiz is Western Europe’s oldest continually inhabited city. Key landmarks include the Baroque cathedral, the Roman amphitheatre, Castillo de Santa Catalina and the Torre Tavira watchtower. Casablanca, Morocco

Casablanca is a thrilling blend of European, North African and Arab influences. Explore the lanes of the 19th-century medina, then walk past whitewashed Moorish buildings to the colonial downtown district and the exotic spice stalls of the Marché Central.

Agadir, Morocco

Famous for its long, beautiful beaches, Agadir also boasts the amazing Souk El Had marketplace - around 6,000 stalls selling everything imaginable, from clothing, footwear and rugs to musical instruments and fresh fruit.

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon spreads itself expansively across seven hills, so our included panoramic excursion is a great way to see many of its highlights. Its two UNESCO- listed sites are Jeronimos Monastery, where Vasco da Gama is entombed, and Bélem Tower, built in his honour.

Leixoes (for Oporto), Portugal

Our included panoramic excursion takes you from Leixoes to Oporto, set on the Douro River. On one bank lies Villa Nova de Gaia’s port wine lodges, whilst on the other is UNESCO-listed Ribeira Old Town, whose atmospheric cobbled streets are crowded with historic buildings, some dating from the 12th century.
