Spirit of Discovery blog

El Ferrol

12th March, 2020

We arrived in Ferrol in the morning of March 12th. Ferrol is the starting point of the 'English Way' of the path of the 'Camino de Santiago' and many of our guests onboard have a shore excursion that will take them to Santiago de Compostela and the cathedral today. I wasn’t going quite so far though! After my night-shift duty I was able to go ashore and although it was raining lightly, the centre of Ferrol is only a couple of kilometres from our berth.

After a short walk, I was amongst the narrow and tidy streets of Ferrol and had seen the statue for Ceuta, Plaza Espana and the public library – the building that houses the library is a very grand with detailed architecture.

Ferrol also has many shops selling watches and jewellery and although the quality is very good and there is great choice, I didn’t make any purchases today.

I was happy sightseeing and seeing somewhere new – one of things I like best about being at sea is being able to travel for free and to visit many of the most beautiful places in the world. I hope my blog will encourage guests to come and experience both Spirit of Discovery and the cruises we have.
