Spirit of Discovery blog

Stavanger

10th September, 2019

Certainly another nice sunny day here in Norway and Stavanger. We embarked our pilot at 6:30am this morning and then proceeded into the quaint harbour of Stavanger. It really has a Norwegian feel and I always enjoy a stroll ashore here. We turned and backed the vessel up to the berth and came port side alongside. Gangway in and many keen Saganauts going ashore and tours are ever popular here, especially to see the beautiful surrounding landscape and gardens.

You are close to town so can always take a stroll in, soak up some Norwegian culture and have a coffee. Sunshine is out for us here and we have been so lucky with our 3 ports that we have had sunshine and at this time of the year.

5pm comes about quick when you are busy and time to sail the ship out and drop off our pilot. Newcomers party tonight which is a great opportunity to welcome our new guests to the Saga Family.

Time to sail back to Dover and this will be my last blog for this trip. It has been a pleasure to be ‘at the helm’ for the last 2 months and seeing the Spirit of Discovery into full service. Our guests have loved our new ship and it has been a pleasure to look after them and to take them to some great destinations. We have been so lucky this cruise, especially with Geiranger, and this will stay with me for the many years to come.

All the very best everyone and I will return Mid-November. Thanks for reading :)
