Funchal, Madeira
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.
Madeira is a verdant, mountainous island formed from a volcanic eruption and known for its namesake wine. Often described as the ‘floating garden in the Atlantic’, the island is home to the world’s largest laurel forest and Botanical Gardens where exotic indigenous and endemic plants grow.
Included excursion
An included panoramic excursion will reveal the scenic highlights of the island.
Optional excursions
Admire panoramic views across Funchal as you ascend to the suburb of Monte by cable car, before visiting the Botanical Gardens, step out onto the glass-bottomed skywalk at Cabo Girao, over Europe’s highest sea cliff, or join a marine biologist for a RIB ride in search of whales and dolphins.

Santa Cruz, La Palma
Arrive 0900. Depart 2100.
La Palma is the greenest of the Canaries and large tracts of its laurel forests have been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Join an included panoramic excursion around the island, or explore the capital of Santa Cruz which is set in a sweeping natural amphitheatre and was a hub for New World explorers and merchant traders during the Age of Exploration.
Its colonial history is reflected in the 16th-century Castilian architecture and the old quarter with its wooden balconies and cobbled lanes is set around the Renaissance Plaza Espana. The island’s maritime past is displayed in the Naval Museum which is housed inside a replica of Christopher Columbus’ famous vessel, the Santa Maria.
Included excursion
Discover La Palma and the Caldera de Taburiente, a volcanic caldera in the centre of the island, during an included panoramic excursion.
Optional excursions
Join a coastal walking tour and visit to Los Tilos Forest.

San Sebastian, La Gomera
Arrive 0800. Depart 2000.
It was in La Gomera that Christopher Columbus readied his ships for his New World adventures. Local legend holds that he took mass in La Asuncion church and water from a well at the manor Pozo de la Aguada, which displays exhibits on the explorer’s expeditions. One of the oldest remaining structures is the stone Torre del Conde tower which protected the wife of the island’s first governor, Hernan Peraza, when ill-treated islanders rebelled in 1488.
Optional excursions
Explore the unspoilt forests of Garajonay National Park, home to such rare indigenous wildlife as the Gomeran lizard and Gomeran skink.

Santa Cruz, Tenerife
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.
Tenerife is crowned by Mount Teide. The capital of Santa Cruz has a mix of old and new sights, from the central square of Plaza de Espana, which was built in 1929 to the auditorium, an expressionist structure that resembles a wave.
Optional excursions
Take the cable-car to the summit of Mount Teide and admire the mountain vistas or visit one of the island’s lush botanical gardens.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.
Nearly half of Gran Canaria has been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The island is fringed with beautiful coves and sandy beaches to the south and wild mountains to the north.
The subtropical capital of Las Palmas is set beside two broad bays and features cafe-lined squares and courtyards overflowing with exotic fruits, flowers and palms.
The oldest sights can be discovered in a trio of historic neighbourhoods: San Antonio, Triana and Vegueta. Discover over 500 years of history in the landmark Santa Ana Cathedral which encompasses Gothic, Renaissance and neoclassical styles.
Optional excursion
Head off into the mountains on a trip to discover villages seemingly lost in time.

Arrecife, Lanzarote
Arrive 0800. Depart 1600.
Named in Spanish after the reef that edges its shoreline, peaceful Arrecife has been the island’s capital since it took the title from nearby Teguise in 1852. This relatively sleepy port’s origins can be seen in the whitewashed fishermen cottages and 17th-century church set around the coastal lagoon of El Charco de San Gines. The 18th-century San Jose fortress now hosts a collection of art by such renowned Spanish artists as Picasso and Miro while the Science and Art Centre is housed in the 19th-century manor of La Casa de Los Arroyo.
From Arrecife, you can discover the vast lava fields and crater-studded landscapes of Timanfaya National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Included excursion
Look forward to exploring your surroundings on an included panoramic excursion.
Optional excursions
Seek out the colonial gems of the former capital, Teguise or walk across the barren landscapes of Timanfaya National Park and enjoy a memorable barbecue cooked with heat from the volcano.

Spend the day at sea
See what we have to offer at sea.
Cádiz, Spain
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.
3,000-year-old Cádiz is Western Europe’s oldest continually inhabited city since its founding by the ancient seafaring Phoenicians.
It is strung along a peninsula, and was refortified in the 17th-century after the British attacked twice, nearly destroying the city.
Key landmarks include the Baroque and neoclassical cathedral with its yellow dome and the adjoining El Sagarario, the Roman amphitheatre, Castillo de Santa Catalaina and the Torre Tavira – one of 129 watchtowers dotted throughout the city.
An included panoramic excursion offers a relaxing introduction to the city.

Your tour begins with a drive to Vale Paraiso, where you set off for your two-hour walk. Fire Mountain with Volcano BBQ
See Timanfaya National Park’s spectacular landscapes and enjoy a BBQ cooked by the volcano heat.
Frequently included in our list of ‘top quality-scoring tours’, Fire Mountain with Volcano BBQ is certainly something unique that we are confident you will enjoy. It is known as the ‘Island of Volcanoes’ for good reason: the landscape of Lanzarote is punctuated by over 300 volcanic cones overlooking blackened lava fields which were created between 1730 and 1736 when almost a third of the island was covered in lava. Even today, volcanic activity can be observed in Timanfaya National Park, and on this excursion your BBQ meal will be cooked using the very heat source that altered the island’s physical shape, as well as its agricultural and cultural identities.
Your tour vehicle leaves the port and, having passed through the whitewashed villages of Puerto del Carmen, Mache and Yaiza, arrives at the national park. From here you transfer to one of the national park’s coaches for a drive around the edges and slopes of the volcanoes.
Then, head to ‘El Diablo’, a restaurant offering a 360-degree panorama across the surrounding rugged landscape. Enjoy a volcano BBQ, cooked by the heat contained just below the surface, accompanied by red or white wine, soft drinks, beer or water, followed by ‘Bienmesable’ – a traditional Lanzarote dessert.
Afterwards, travel south for views across the geologically fascinating El Golfo and Los Hervideros, boasting caves and craters created by the flow of lava. See Janubio, where vegetables are grown in fields of lava pellets before arriving at one of La Geria’s wine cellars.
Finally, return to the ship.

Fire Mountain Timanfaya National Park
Activity Level: Moderate Activity
See the Fire Mountain’s spectacular landscapes on a drive through the Timanfaya National Park.
Lanzarote has a fascinating history, one of its most notable events being the eruptions of the 1730s, when the volcanoes in the Timanfaya area erupted for six years and covered nearly a third of the island with lava. This volcanic landscape is revealed in Timanfaya National Park, also known as ‘Fire Mountain’, which will be your first destination after driving through the whitewashed villages of Puerto del Carmen, Macher and Yaiza.
Once at the national park, begin a tour of the craters and lava beds in this lunar-like terrain. Your guide will perform demonstrations to show the latent power of the volcano.
Afterwards travel through the Salt Planes to La Geria, where vineyards dot the landscape. Here, the vines are protected by semi-circular stonewalls, making them look more like art than agriculture. A stop here will be made to visit a bodega, where there will be the opportunity to purchase some Lanzarote wine before returning to the ship, with a short stop at the Aloe Vera Farm on the way.
Additional Information
Please note: There is half-a-mile of essential walking, most of which is at the visitor centre over flat surfaces. However, at other stops some surfaces are likely to be exceptionally uneven. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes.

Trekking Palm Valley and the Green Caves
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
Combine a trek through the valley of 1000 palms with a visit to Cueva de Los Verdes.
This excursion begins with a transfer to Peñas del Chache, the highest point of the island, where your trek begins. Leaving the volcanic landscapes behind, walk through the only forest on the island to reach a viewpoint offering views of Famara Beach.
Continue down the path, through rich and varied vegetation, into the Valley of a Thousand Palm Trees. Here you will discover another impressive viewpoint as you walk through the greenest part of Lanzarote.
Reaching the charming village of Haria, reboard your coach and travel to the the Green Caves. These are lava tubes formed by the eruption of the La Corona volcano over 3,000 years ago. Your guide will tell you how they were created and how they were used as a refuge by the island’s inhabitants when escaping in the past from invaders or pirates. Part of the cave network has been equipped with electric light, and one section has been converted into an underground concert hall.
Additional Information
Please note: Expect to walk approximately three-and-a-half miles. The trek will be over uneven terrain including loose stones and steep gradients, with around 30 rough steps. Good walking boots are recommended. There are low sections inside the caves where you may be required to bend down as you walk to pass through. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility.

Flamenco in Cádiz
This tour starts with a panoramic drive around Cádiz, the oldest continuously inhabited city in Spain. The historic town centre is still surrounded by fortifications, dating mainly from the 18th century, and inside the walls it has changed little over the past 300 years: few buildings are more than three or four stories high, and the cathedral dome still dominates the city. Following your tour, proceed to a local ‘tablao’ – an Andalusian tavern – for an authentic flamenco performance.
Flamenco originated as the music of Spanish gypsies, incorporating both Western European and North African influences. Sit back and enjoy a traditional performance of its staccato, balletic dances, haunting ballads and fiery guitar music. While enjoying the music and dancing, you will be served wine and local ‘tapas’ – small plates of Serrano ham, cheese and Spanish omelettes. You can even try some flamenco dancing for yourself!
Following this cultural and gastronomic experience, your coach will take you back to the port.
Additional Information
Please note You will need to walk at least 200 yards from the coach stop to the flamenco venue, and the same distance back again. This is partly over cobbled streets, so flat walking shoes are recommended. All other sights in the city are viewed from the coach. The panoramic drive follows the same route covered on the Snapshot of Cádiz excursion and we therefore recommend that you do not book both.

Arriving at the Spanish hillside town, see the whitewashed houses, declared a national monument in 1978. Enjoy a walking tour along the cobbled streets, lined with traditional architecture, with a local guide.
Afterwards, return to Cádiz and your awaiting ship.
