Enjoy the winter sun of the Canaries
Cruise towards the winter sunshine of the Canary Islands in 2026, calling at the floral island of Madeira for an overnight visit on the way. Contrast the lush green scenery of La Palma with the volcanic terrain of Tenerife before cruising to the lesser-visited island of Fuerteventura. Here, nature reserves protect its unique ecosystems of the undeveloped volcanic interior, including the golden sand dunes of Corralejo Nature Reserve.
Continue to Gran Canaria, which is fringed with beautiful coves and sandy beaches, and on to Lanzarote, home to the crater-studded landscapes of Timanfaya National Park. The return journey includes a visit to Portugal’s vibrant capital city Lisbon, known for its vintage trams and the UNESCO-listed sites of Jeronimos Monastery and Bélem Tower.

Torvill and Dean
Dame Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean are world famous for winning gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics with their iconic ice dance routine to “Bolero”, receiving scores that have never been matched and with their performance being watched by over 24 million UK television viewers.
Paired as an ice dance couple in 1975, they took their first trophy in 1976 and never looked back as they conquered competition after competition around the world becoming British champions multiple times, followed by European champions and World champions.
Their gold winning Olympic routine has gone down in history, becoming part of the British psyche and anyone hearing the opening notes of Ravel’s “Bolero” immediately thinks of Jayne and Chris in their opening positions kneeling on the ice.
Jayne and Chris have competed in and won many championships since the Olympics, as well as touring the world with their own ice dance shows. They reached a whole new generation of fans as coaches and judges on the ITV series “Dancing on Ice”
Having toured the world numerous times with shows they have created; Jayne and Chris toured the UK with their “Our Last Dance” 50th anniversary tour after which they retired from skating.
On board Jayne and Chris will tell you about their careers as the top ice dance skaters in the world as well as stories from their stellar career. There will also be an opportunity to ask Chris and Jayne all your burning questions about the world of ice dancing.
Radio presenter and PopMaster host, Ken Bruce
Ken joined the BBC in 1977 as a BBC Radio Scotland staff presenter. His first regular slot on Radio 2 was the Saturday Late Show in 1984 and the following year he fronted the Radio 2 Breakfast Show. Ken also presented Radio 2’s coverage of Eurovision from 1988 until 2023 and was a regular presenter of Sunday Night is Music Night. Ken left Radio 2 in 2023 and now presents the Morning Show on Greatest Hits Radio. PopMaster, a quiz which has run for over 25 years, remains a very important slot within his show and can also be seen on television. Ken continues to present live shows around the country.

Ian Hall FRAS is a public astrophysicist, Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, and founder of The Average Scientist — a science communication organisation dedicated to making the universe accessible and inspiring for all. He is the author of two books and the creator of the national touring theatre production Wonders of Our Universe, a live fusion of astrophysics, storytelling and music that has captivated thousands across the UK. Known for his poetic style in the tradition of Carl Sagan, Ian brings the mysteries of the cosmos to life with warmth and clarity, connecting the science of the stars to the story of us. His work reminds audiences that the vastness of space is not distant but deeply connected to who we are.
Ian will present two talks during this voyage, and two performances of Wonders of Our Universe: Part I and Part II, an immersive two-night journey through space, time and the story of everything.
Maritime adventurer and World Record holder, Mick Dawson
Mick Dawson is a former Royal Marine, author and filmmaker recognized as one of the most experienced ocean rowers in the world. He has successfully rowed the Atlantic Ocean twice and skippered the first and only rowing boat to cross the North Pacific, completing a monumental voyage from Japan to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. In 2018, Mick returned to the Pacific, rowing from California to Hawaii with blind veteran Steve Sparkes, marking Sparkes as the first visually impaired person to row the Pacific. Look forward to insightful talks from Mick while on board.

Madeira is a verdant, mountainous island formed from a volcanic eruption and known for its namesake wine. Often described as the ‘floating garden in the Atlantic’, the island is home to the world’s largest laurel forest and Botanical Gardens where exotic indigenous plants grow.

La Palma is the greenest of the Canaries and large tracts of its laurel forests have been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The capital, Santa Cruz, is set in a sweeping natural amphitheatre and was a hub for New World explorers and merchant traders during the Age of Exploration. Its history is reflected in the 16th-century Castilian architecture and the old quarter with its wooden balconies and cobbled lanes is set around the Renaissance Plaza Espana.

Tenerife is crowned by the World Heritage Site, Mount Teide. Its capital Santa Cruz has a mix of old and new sights, from the central square of Plaza de Espana, which was built in 1929 to the auditorium, an expressionist structure that resembles a wave.

The second-largest island of the Canaries, Fuerteventura, is ringed by beaches and blessed with a mild climate. Several nature reserves protect the unique ecosystems of its undeveloped volcanic interior, including Corralejo Nature Reserve. In the capital, Puerto del Rosario, discover the old quarter, with its tangle of lanes and whitewashed houses while a variety of artworks, including statues and murals, add colour to the relaxed squares and streets. 19th-century sights include Nuestra Señora del Rosario church.

The subtropical capital of Las Palmas is set beside two broad bays and features cafe-lined squares and courtyards overflowing with exotic fruits, flowers and palms. The oldest sights can be seen in a trio of historic neighbourhoods: San Antonio, Triana and Vegueta. Named in Spanish after the reef that edges its shoreline, peaceful Arrecife has been the island’s capital since it took the title from nearby Teguise in 1852. This relatively sleepy port’s origins can be seen in the whitewashed fishermen cottages and 17th-century church set around the coastal lagoon of El Charco de San Gines. From Arrecife, you can discover the vast lava fields and crater-studded landscapes of Timanfaya National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
