Day 1 UK to Kiev

After taking Saga’s included VIP door-to-door travel service to the airport, fly to Kiev and transfer to the port to embark your ship, MS Dnieper Princess. Enjoy a welcome drinks reception with the captain on board. Your ship will remain moored here overnight.

Day 2 Kiev

Today you can see the sights of the Ukrainian capital on an included tour.

When your city tour is finished you can continue exploring Kiev on an optional excursion to St Sophia’s Cathedral with its golden onion domes, decorated facades and fascinating Byzantine icons that date back to the 11th century.

Another optional excursion visits Pecherskaya Lavra – The Monastery of the Caves – the most famous historical site in Kiev, which was founded in 1051 by the monks Anthony and Theodosius. Once the centre of Orthodox Christianity, it housed monks who lived and were subsequently mummified and entombed in its caves. There are several churches, cathedrals, monuments, gardens and museums within the grounds and the monastery remains a symbol of Ukrainian nationalism.

Day 3 Cruising

As you cruise south through the country today, immerse yourself in the culture of the Ukraine by enjoying some traditional cuisine and taking part in some Ukrainian language lessons on board.

Day 4 Zaporizhzhya

Arrive in Zaporizhzhya this morning and join an included tour of the city, which has strong historical ties with the Cossacks. The tour includes a visit to the Cossack museum and later there's an opportunity to join an optional trip to see a Cossack show before you set sail again before dinner. The open-air Cossack Horse Show is in a special arena on the island of Chortisa. In the Middle Ages this was the headquarters of the local Cossacks, and they'll demonstrate their horsemanship and skills with the use of firearms and swords, all accompanied by national music and dancing. Depart late this afternoon and sail to Kherson.

Day 5 Kherson

Dnieper Delta

You'll arrive in Kherson at breakfast time and can look forward to joining an included boat trip into the Dnieper Delta, home to a vast array of wildlife. Depart from Kherson after lunch and continue sailing overnight. This evening’s dinner will be pirate-themed and you ‘arrr’ cordially invited to dress for the occasion, should you wish.

Day 6 Vilkovo

After breakfast and some scenic early morning cruising, you will arrive in Vilkovo, a small city in the Ukrainian part of the Danube Delta, at the very south west tip of Ukraine, where it borders with Romania. The wetland biosphere is Europe's second largest delta and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The reed beds and groves of willow, oak and poplar provide sanctuary for over 300 species of bird. Look forward to an included walking tour of the city this morning while an optional half-day trip exploring the wetlands aboard a smaller boat is available before your cruise resumes before dinner.

Day 7 Odessa

Odessa

Odessa has a reputation as a lively, artistic and cultural centre and this morning you can join an included tour of this beautiful city which was founded by Catherine the Great in the 18th century.

Its wealth of treasures includes three palaces, a 19th-century Opera House – which you may have the opportunity to visit for an evening performance on an optional excursion, subject to show schedules – and the famous Potemkin Steps. Perhaps climb this vast staircase from the harbour into the town, where you'll be greeted by a statue of Duke de Richelieu, Odessa's first mayor. You’re free to explore independently too so perhaps visit the Tolstoy Mansion, built in the 19th century and exquisitely preserved, or venture into the eerie Odessa Catacombs, used by the Soviet army during World War II. This afternoon perhaps opt to join a trip to a Fine Arts Museum. Your ship will remain moored here overnight.

Many different religions are represented in Odessa and today you can join an optional tour of the churches of the city. The tour includes a trip to Odessa’s Russian, Ukrainian and Greek Orthodox churches and monasteries, as well as a synagogue and the Arabic cultural centre. A highlight is sure to be a visit to the stunning Saint-Transfiguration Cathedral, a spiritual pearl of the city. Another optional excursion features a bus trip to the historic port town of Belgorod-Dnestrovski – known as ‘white rock.’

After breakfast your ship departs, sailing north east towards Dnipro. Enjoy a programme of activities on board today as your cruise through the day and night.

Dnipro

Cruise through the day until you arrive in Dnipro, the country’s fourth-largest city, mid-afternoon. Here you can look forward to an included city tour. During the city tour see the Glory monument, dedicated to WWII, and visit the central square to see the collection of stony idols, the impressive museum and the Orthodox Transfiguration Cathedral.

You will also head to Shevchenko City Park. Set sail again late tonight.

Day 11 Kremenchuk

After cruising overnight and through the morning, arrive in Kremenchuck after lunch. Kremenchuk is an important industrial city in central Ukraine, standing on the banks of the Dnieper River and you can enjoy an independent walking tour as well as the option to join an excursion to see everyday life in a typical Ukrainian village.

Kiev

After sailing north through the night and morning, enjoy another afternoon and evening in Kiev, giving you the opportunity to explore further.

An optional excursion visits an open air museum.

Day 12 Kaniv to Kiev

After sailing north through the night, spend the morning in Kaniv, where you can explore independently or perhaps join an optional excursion visiting the museum and final resting place of poet and artist Taras Shevchenko.

Cruise though the afternoon to arrive back in the capital, Kiev, after dinner.

After breakfast disembark your ship and travel to the airport for your return flight to the UK and to your door-to-door travel service home.
