Art dealer Rupert Maas has been an expert on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow since 1995. He works from a gallery in the West End of London, which was started by his father Jeremy Maas and specialises in Pre-Raphelites, English Romantic and modern British art. Rupert has written regular articles for the arts press and also lectures on art.

A graduate of Liverpool College of Art, Adrian Sumner has worked as an illustrator, Arts Development Officer and lecturer. He is an expert on the Masters of the Dutch Golden Age, particularly Jan Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jan Steen and Frans Hals. Adrian has also lectured extensively on the Dutch stars of the Modern movement, including Vincent Van Gogh and Piet Mondrian.

Day 1 UK to Amsterdam

Travel to Amsterdam and embark Spirit of the Rhine in the afternoon.

Enjoy dinner on board as your ship remains moored overnight.

Day 2 Amsterdam 🎧

Amsterdam's Skinny Bridge over the Amstel river

This cosmopolitan capital entices visitors with its tree-lined canals – criss-crossed by over a thousand bridges – exquisite architecture and world-class art collections.

This morning you can choose to join an included walking tour and canal cruise to see the famous Skinny Bridge, Maritime Museum, Adam Tower, Central Station, Golden Cirkel area, the Montelbaanstoren tower and seven bridges of Amsterdam.

Alternatively, opt for an included culinary themed walking tour of Amsterdam and look forward to tasting local delicacies including herring, cheese and croquettes, rounded off with a sweet treat from a bakery.

This afternoon you may like to join an optional walking tour from the ship, via the 12th-century Oude Kerk (Old Church), to The Rembrandt House Museum, where the famous painter lived and worked between 1639 and 1656.

Day 3 Amsterdam to Utrecht 🎧

Set sail from Amsterdam after breakfast and arrive in Utrecht this afternoon.

Enjoy an included visit to Mondrian House in Amersfoort, where artist Piet Mondrian was born in 1872. The house, now a museum, traces the artist’s life through letters, photographs and film as well as exhibiting Mondrian’s paintings and a life-sized reconstruction of his Paris studio.

Day 4 Utrecht 🎧

This morning you can head into the city’s medieval centre for an included visit to the Central Museum, founded in 1838. Browse work by masters of the Utrecht Caravaggisti of the Golden Age, such as Dirck van Baburen and Gerard van Honthorst, who were inspired by the likes of Caravaggio and Ribera.

With the afternoon to spend at leisure you may like to explore some of the city’s attractions independently, such as the 14th-century Domtoren bell tower and Gothic Cathedral of St Martin, located on Domplein square. Your ship remains moored here overnight.

Day 5 Utrecht to Rotterdam

Kunstmuseum at The Hague

Following an early departure from Utrecht your ship will arrive in Rotterdam this afternoon.

From here you’ll head to The Hague on an included visit to the Kunstmuseum where the collection features over 150,000 pieces comprising a variety of work from fine art and fashion to applied arts and sculpture.

Return to Spirit of the Rhine for dinner on board.

Day 6 Rotterdam

Mauritshuis at The Hague

This morning another included excursion returns to The Hague to visit the Mauritshuis and it’s collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings from the 17th century. See iconic masterpieces, such as the Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer and the Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt.

Following an afternoon at leisure in the maritime city of Rotterdam, return to your ship which departs for the overnight journey to Amsterdam later this afternoon.

Day 7 Amsterdam

Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

Awaken in Amsterdam and fill your day with included visits to three of the city’s most popular museums: the Rijksmuseum, which is dedicated to Dutch arts and history; the Van Gogh Museum where the collection includes some of the artist’s most famous work, such as Sunflowers and Almond Blossom; and the Stedelijk Museum for modern art, contemporary art and design.
