Day 1 UK to Amsterdam to Hoorn

Amsterdam's historic canals

Travel to Amsterdam - a journey from Calais of approximately five hours with comfort stops - and embark Spirit of the Rhine.

Enjoy dinner on board as you depart this evening for Hoorn where you moor overnight.

Hoorn Netherlands Europe

Day 2 Hoorn to Enkhuizen 🎧

Enkhuizen’s city gate

When the Dutch navigators Willem Schouten and Jakob Le Maire first sailed past Cape Horn at the southernmost tip of South America back in 1616, Schouten named it after this, his home town of Hoorn.

Enjoy some time at leisure this morning and perhaps take an interactive map to conduct a self-guided tour or join an optional walking tour which reveals its highlights before you cruise on to Enkhuizen late this morning.

Once known as Herring Town, the former fishing port was one of the Dutch East India Company's main operational ports in the 17th century and rivalled Amsterdam in status. Stroll the prettily preserved streets, indulge in some retail therapy or visit the fascinating Zuiderzee Museum on an optional excursion. There is also a delightfully quirky bottle ship museum – home to the world's largest collection of ships in bottles!

Remain moored here overnight.

Enkhuizen Netherlands Europe

Day 3 Enkhuizen to Medemblik to Lelystad

Lelystad, Netherlands

This morning set sail from Enkhuizen and arrive during breakfast in Medemblik, where you will have some free time at leisure to explore independently, or alternatively you might prefer to join an optional tulip farm tour and scenic drive.

Sail from Medemblik mid afternoon and arrive in Lelystad during dinner.

Lelystad Netherlands Europe

Day 4 Lelystad

Colourful tulips field in Noordoostpolder, Netherlands

You’re in for a treat this morning as you can look forward to an included scenic drive through the spellbinding tulip fields of the Noordoostpolder – land reclaimed from the sea which is now considered the foremost bulb region in the Netherlands that attracts visitors from around the globe.

You’ll pause for photo opportunities before you return to your ship for lunch.

This afternoon you can enjoy some free time to explore Lelystad or join an optional excursion.

Cruise overnight towards Utrecht.

Lelystad Netherlands Europe

Day 5 Utrecht

Dom Tower looms over Utrecht

Arrive in Utrecht before breakfast and look forward to a day exploring at your leisure – perhaps wander through the medieval heart of the city with its 112-metre high Domtoren tower or visit one of the city’s museums.

Alternatively you might wish to join an optional half-day trip to Utrecht Botanical Gardens or get up early and join the largest flower auction in the world, the Aalsmeer flower auction.

Remain moored in the city until late this evening before cruising through the night towards Zaandem.

Utrecht Netherlands Europe

Day 6 Zaandam to Amsterdam

Blooming flowers in Keukenhof Gardens in Netherlands

A treat is in store today as there's an included full-day excursion to the wonderful Keukenhof Gardens, 'the most beautiful spring garden in the world!'.

Admire dazzling displays of millions of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths at the most breathtaking time of year and perhaps pick up some ideas for your own garden from the themed gardens here.

This evening rejoin your ship and cruise to the capital over dinner.

You will spend the final two nights of your holiday moored in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Holland Netherlands Europe

Day 7 Amsterdam 🎧

Central Station, Amsterdam

The Dutch capital is rightly popular for its friendly welcome, picturesque canals, world-class museums and galleries and laid-back cafes and bars.

This morning you can enjoy the opportunity to get under the skin of a destination by enjoying the local food and culture. After disembarking your ship and meeting your guide, take a tram to Central Station from where you will begin a walking tour of the Dutch capital. Along the way look forward to tasting local delicacies including herring, cheese and croquettes and rounding it off with a sweet treat from a bakery.

Alternatively you could join an included tour of Amsterdam by coach and see the Royal Palace on Dam Square, the floating flower market, the Central Railway Station, which is built on thousands of wooden piles, and the grand 19th-century Rijksmuseum.

Afterwards, enjoy a canal cruise to see the city centre with its pretty bridges and attractive gabled houses up close and view such treasures as the famous Skinny Bridge, the Montelbaanstoren tower and the Jewish Quarter.

Enjoy your final evening at leisure in the city.
