Join André Rieu in his home town of Maastricht, where he’ll be accompanied by the Johann Strauss orchestra during an open-air summer concert in the medieval heart of the city.

Then embark on a cruise towards Germany, calling at Roermond and Arnhem, where you’ll have the opportunity to visit the castle gardens of Arcen, before visiting the historic cities of Düsseldorf, home to the twisted tower of Gothic St Lambertus church, and Cologne, whose skyline is dominated by the twin spires of its cathedral.

Day 1 UK to Maastricht

Travel by coach via Eurotunnel or ferry to Maastricht (a journey from Calais of approximately five hours).

Embark Rex Rheni and look forward to a welcome reception and dinner on board tonight as you remain moored here for the first of two nights.

Day 2 Maastricht

The day is yours to explore independently. A stroll along Maastricht's riverside promenades and parks is a great way to spend time in the city, or you may like to scout the city's fortifications, see the grey-stone town hall in the market place or walk past the house where Andre Rieu was born. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before transferring by coach to Vrijthof Square in the heart of Maastricht, where you’ll take your seat for the open-air André Rieu concert.

Day 3 Maastricht to Roermond

Depart Maastricht at breakfast time and sail through the morning to arrive in Roermond just after lunch. An optional walking tour explores the town’s 800-year history.

Day 4 Roermond to Venlo to Arnhem

Sail from Roermond early this morning, to arrive in Venlo shortly after breakfast. From here an optional excursion visits the castle gardens at Arcen.

Your ship sails through the afternoon to arrive in Arnhem this evening.

Explore independently or perhaps join an optional morning tour to see famous sights associated with Operation Market Garden, a battle fought in 1944 and the subject of the epic war film A Bridge too Far.

Depart Arnhem this afternoon and sail through the night to Düsseldorf.

Day 7 Düsseldorf to Cologne 🎧

Sail from Düsseldorf this morning for an afternoon arrival in the historic city of Cologne, whose skyline is dominated by the twin spires of its cathedral. Go in search of the main highlights on an optional tour this afternoon.

Day 8 Cologne to UK

Disembark your ship after breakfast and begin your return journey to the UK.

Maastricht City Tour

After meeting your guide at the ship, embark on a walking tour. Your route includes a visit to the oldest working water mill in the Netherlands, dating back to the 14th century, which still mills grain for the adjacent bakery and a brewery. Walk around the city wall, through elegant shopping streets and past the house where Andre Rieu was born. Next you will see several chapels and churches before your tour winds its way to grand Vrijthof Square, in the heart of the city.

Roermond walking tour

The town sits on the bank of the Meuse river and boasts more than 800 years of history, with much of the town centre designated a conservation area full of listed buildings and monuments. Its skyline is dominated by the towers of St Christopher Cathedral and Roermond Minster. A walking tour is a great way to see some of the highlights.

Castle Gardens at Arcen

Discover 15 unique gardens, designed by landscape architect Niek Roozen, that have been laid out around a historic country estate with a 17th-century castle. Admire the Rhododendron Garden, Bamboo Forest, oriental water garden and Baroque Rosarium and explore the Casa Verde, a large greenhouse containing banana trees, bird of paradise flowers, palms and tree ferns, and a Koi pond.

Arnhem Commemoration

Visit the site of the momentous events of Operation Market Garden, beginning at the famous 'Bridge Too Far.' It was here that the 2nd Battalion, led by Lieutenant Colonel Frost, held out for four days in September 1944 against overwhelming odds. At the north end, you'll see a monument in honour of those who participated, many of whom lost their lives. Continue to the old church in Oosterbeek, where the Allies sheltered prior to withdrawing, passing some of the fields where the landings took place. At the Airborne Museum, you can see photographs and memorabilia along with anti-tank guns and a Sherman tank which stand where they were left in battle. You return to Arnhem via the Airborne Cemetery, the final resting place of 1,748 Allied troops.

Dusseldorf City Tour

Join an expert guide on a stroll through the picturesque lanes, take a look behind the scenes and prepare to make surprising discoveries.

This is history come to life. Find out, among other things, why the Gothic St. Lambertus church has a twisted tower, how The Rider statue of popular elector Jan Wellem came about, where Heinrich Heine was born, and how tailor Wibbel gained fame. The Burgplatz (square) with the Schlossturm (palace tower) holds great charm. From here, it's a stone's throw to the Rhine embankment promenade- offering a stunning view of Düsseldorf's skyline and the Oberkassel Rhine banks.

Cologne city tour

Discover the city’s historic attractions on this optional excursion, which begins with a scenic coach trip. See the old town, which has been sensitively restored to its pre-World War II glory. Visit the awe-inspiring towers of Gross St Martin & the mighty Gothic cathedral. Set off on foot & take a scenic stroll along the cobbled lanes & lively squares. This rewarding walk will allow you to get a closer look at what the historic city centre has to offer, such as the Alter Markt.
