Immerse yourself in the historic and cutural attractions of Prague during a two-night stay at the locally rated 5-star Corinthia Prague Hotel (4Q), located in the Prague 1 district where you’ll find the Old Town and famous medieval Astrological Clock. Embark Spirit of the Rhine in Nuremberg and begin your 7-night cruise along the Danube stopping to visit a string of traditional riverside towns, including Regensburg and Passau. Sail through the scenic Wachau Valley to Dürnstein, where the ruins of Kuenringer Castle overlook the town. This is where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned during the 12th century.

Prague Old Town Square with Astronomical Clock Tower

The UNESCO World Heritage city of Prague is known for its Baroque architecture, Gothic churches and the medieval Astrological Clock, which was installed in 1410. Charles Bridge, a pedestrianised medieval stone structure across the Vlatva river, is lined with statues of Catholic saints.

This evening you may like to experience the local culture at an optional folklore dinner.

Check out of your hotel after breakfast and transfer to Nuremberg (a journey of approximately three hours, 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions and including comfort stops) to embark your ship, Spirit of the Rhine.

Enjoy a welcome drink reception and dinner on board as your ship remains moored here overnight.

St Peter Cathedral, Regensburg

Spirit of the Rhine will pause briefly in Kelheim over breakfast so that you can disembark for an optional excursion to Weltenburg Abbey, a masterpiece of German baroque architecture overlooking the Danube Gorge.

Alternatively, remain aboard the ship as she continues to Regensburg, and enjoy the afternoon exploring the lovely old town on an optional walking tour. Excursion participants will rejoin the ship in Regensburg.

Set off again this evening for Passau.

Spend the early morning cruising east along the Danube, before arriving in elegant Passau with its cobbled streets and arcades, set at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz Rivers. Spend the day here, an included tour this morning will reveal how Passau’s wealthy past is reflected in its many fine buildings.

Alternatively, join a full-day optional excursion to Salzburg.

After arriving during breakfast, enjoy the opportunity to explore Melk, known for its great baroque abbey, which has a magnificent church and a famous library with over 70,000 books. An optional tour of Melk Abbey will be available this morning.

During lunch cruise through the scenic Wachau Valley to Dürnstein, one of the most picturesque towns on the Danube River. Its ruined Kuenringer Castle is where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned during the late 12th century.

Set sail again later this evening.

Having arrived in the early hours, look forward to spending a full day in Vienna.

This morning you can either join an included sightseeing tour of the highlights, including the Ringstrasse and Opera House, or you can opt for an included culinary themed walking tour of Vienna, which focuses on the food and culture of the city. After lunch, you may like to explore further independently, or join an optional excursion to Schönbrunn Palace. 

You also have the option to attend a concert on an optional excursion this evening before setting sail again late tonight.

Early this morning arrive in Bratislava, capital of Slovakia.

Stroll through ancient cobbled streets to Bratislava Castle for a bird’s-eye view of the city; the old town is easily explored on foot too. See the Gothic-style cathedral, where 11 Kings of Hungary were crowned while Turks occupied their capital. Alternatively join an optional guided tour of Bratislava or sample locally brewed beer at the UFO observation tower, which offers panoramic views over the city.

Set sail again this afternoon and cruise overnight to Budapest.

Arrive before sunrise and set off on an included excursion after breakfast to see the capital's highlights, which include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Buda Castle. Alternatively, you can choose to join an included food-themed guided walk to sample some of the local delicacies.

After lunch you can visit Gödöllo Palace or Lazar Equestrian Park Horse Farm on optional excursions. You will spend the final night of your cruise moored here.

Prague Culinary Walking Tour

Your tour begins after breakfast with a tram ride from the hotel to the city centre, where you can look forward to seeing some of the city’s stunning architecture, both ancient and modern. An hour’s walk should help work up an appetite which you can satisfy during a number of stops to sample traditional local fare, including Czech open sandwiches, ham, bread and pickles and soup with beer – remember to leave some room for dessert too though. After three hours your tour will finish in the old town square and Jewish Quarter. You’ll be left to explore independently, with recommendations from your guide to get you started.

Prague city tour

Virtually unscathed by the great wars of the 20th century, Prague is blessed with an illustrious past and an eclectic mix of architecture. Visit the Lesser Town – Malá Strana – which is dominated by the church of St Nicholas. Next, your local guide will lead you across the famous Charles Bridge to the Staré Meˇ sto, or Old Town. See the church of Our Lady of Tyn, the Royal Way, the famous Astronomical clock and the Jewish Quarter.

Prague Folklore Dinner

Look forward to an evening of good food and traditional Czech entertainment. You’ll travel by coach to Prague Castle where it’s a short walk to the restaurant. Here you’ll be served typical Czech cuisine and local wine and beer before hearing live folk music reflecting different parts of the country. There’ll be songs and dances and the chance to see the unusual instruments being played, such as hammer-dulcimer, shepherds-whistle and bag-pipe. The second half of the evening will have a more international flavour as the musicians play for the crowd and guests’ requests. The night ends with renditions of well-known classical works from the likes of Smetana, Dvorák, Brahms and Mozart which have been inspired by folk music.

Weltenburg Abbey & the Danube Gorge

Built on a gorge beside the Danube in Eastern Bavaria, between 1715 and 1734, the Abbey is a masterpiece of German baroque architecture and it is exquisitely painted. The Benedictine monks here are renowned for the award-winning dark ale they have been brewing since the 11th century. Enjoy a short boat trip through the Danube Gorge en route to the Abbey where a guide will give a short introductory talk.

Regensburg city walk

Explore Regensburg’s old town, a charming labyrinth of medieval streets and alleys that was once the centre of the Holy Roman Empire and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highlights include the Gothic St Peter’s cathedral, the eight-storey Old Town Hall and 12th-century Stone Bridge.

Salzburg

Travel by coach through stunning alpine scenery to the romantic and beautifully preserved city of Salzburg. Melk Abbey

Set on a promontory overlooking the Danube, the wonderfully ornate Melk Abbey is a masterpiece of high baroque architecture. Work on the present monastery began in 1702. The imposing exterior features an octagonal dome and symmetrical towers, while the interior is lavishly decorated and contains many artistic treasures. After touring the abbey enjoy some free time in the lovely garden.

Dürnstein walking tour

Walk from the ship to the historic heart of Dürnstein, where the cobbled streets are home to traditional wineries and quirky little shops. Continue to Dürnstein Abbey with it’s blue and white steeple that can be seen from every angle of the town. After a tour of the historic abbey, owned by the Augustinian Canons of Herzogenburg Abbey, you will be treated to an organ concert featuring classical music composed by the likes of Mozart, Bach and Beethoven.

Schonbrunn Palace

Beer tasting at the UFO

Beer was first brewed in Bratislava by the Celts 2,000 years ago and has long competed with wine for the most popular drink in the region. This excursion ventures up to the UFO observation tower where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the city and the opportunity to sample a selection of locally brewed beer.

Bratislava city tour

Step aboard the miniature Bratislava City Train to explore the many highlights of this historic city. You’ll pass the 18th-century Slovak Philharmonic Hall and impressive National Theatre before your train slowly makes its way around the Old Town, arriving at Bratislava Castle, with its commanding hill-top setting, to admire magnificent views across the city. The train will then continue through Leopold Gate, back to the Old Town where you’ll disembark for a walking tour. A stroll through the narrow, cobbled streets will reveal sights such as the Archbishop’s Palace, St Martin’s Cathedral, the charming Main Square with its fountain and Old Town Hall, and a number of 18th-century palaces.

Lazar Equestrian Park

Travel to the Lazar Equestrian Park, owned by the world champion horse and carriage drivers, the Lazar brothers. After refreshments enjoy a fascinating show demonstrating exceptional horsemanship. Afterwards, take a carriage ride around the park, followed by a walk through the yard to see local breeds of livestock and visit to the stables where the Lazar's champion horses are kept.

Budapest Culinary Walking Tour

Your tour begins with a tram ride to the First Strudel House, where you can enjoy a video about the traditions of strudel-making in Hungary followed by a live demonstration of how to prepare, stretch and fill the dough – with instructions in English. Perhaps try your own hand at the skill and then relax with a hot drink while you wait for your creations to bake. After enjoying your strudel, take a walk through the city to enjoy some authentic chimney cake and after a brief stop continue to the Central Market Hall where you can try some authentic Hungarian salami before you return to your ship by tram.
