Vienna is also known for its Imperial palaces, such as Schönbrunn, the Habsburgs’ summer residence. The city’s Museums Quarter features a mix of contemporary and historic buildings housing famous artwork by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and other renowned artists.
Vienna river cruises
Enjoy a choice of excursions…
Visit Vienna on a river cruise and choose from a variety of optional excursions to see some of the city’s attractions.
Vienna City Tour
This excursion begins with a panoramic coach tour passing some of Vienna’s most famous sights, such as the 212-feet tall Riesenrad Ferris wheel and the Ringstrasse, where you can see the State Opera House. Then, travel into the oldest part of Vienna, where you will have the opportunity to join a short, guided walk to St Stephen's Cathedral, or if you prefer, enjoy some free time to browse the shops or treat yourself to a Viennese coffee, before returning to the ship.
Schönbrunn Palace
From the 18th century to 1918, Schönbrunn was the residence of the Habsburg emperors. It was designed by the architects Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and Nicolaus Pacassi and is full of outstanding examples of decorative art. Together with its gardens, the site of the world’s first zoo in 1752, it is a remarkable Baroque ensemble and a perfect example of Gesamtkunstwerk.
Vienna Evening Concert
Vienna is renowned for its opera houses and concert halls where regular musical performances take place. Therefore, a trip to Vienna would not be complete without an after-dinner concert of Viennese music. Travel to one of Vienna’s impressive palaces near the famous Ringstrasse and parliament building. Then, relax and enjoy the music of the Strauss family. Together, the composers in the family were largely responsible for the popularisation of the waltz, so you will be transported back through music to 18th-century Vienna.
