Enjoy three nights in Vienna before sailing along the Danube through Austria, Slovakia and Hungary

Your holiday begins with a three-night hotel stay in the musical city of Vienna, where an included half-day tour will reveal the historic buildings, including the magnificent State Opera House, of the old city. You’ll also enjoy a meal at the atmospheric Salmbrau restaurant, which is located in one of the last monastery cellars of Vienna’s Old Town.

You will then embark Spirit of the Danube and begin your river cruise adventure along the Danube. Sail through the beautiful riverscapes of Austria, Slovakia and Hungary where you'll visit a host of delightful towns that cluster on the Danube Bend. A grand finale awaits in the cosmopolitan city of Budapest, which is divided by the Danube into Buda and Pest. See some of the highlights during an included city tour, such as the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Buda Castle that sits above the river on the west bank and the impressive Hungarian Parliament buildings in Pest on the east bank or instead embark on an included culinary tour with the opportunity to sample delicious strudels, authentic chimney cake and Hungarian salami.

Day 1 UK to Vienna

Fly to Vienna for a three-night stay at the Imperial Riding School (4Q).

Your stay is on a half-board basis, with one dinner at a local restaurant and two dinners at the hotel.

Day 2 Vienna 🎧

Hofburg Palace, Vienna

Look forward to exploring Vienna, the legendary city of the Hapsburgs for 600 hundred years. Perhaps join an included tour which takes in the Ringstrasse, a wide avenue encircling the old city, revealing its historic buildings, including the State Opera House.

Alternatively, opt for an included culinary walking tour from Albertina Square to the Imperial Palace, with the opportunity to sample local specialities along the way. Tonight, dinner is included at a local restaurant.

Day 3 Vienna 🎧

Famous Wiener Ringstrasse, Vienna

Spend the day at leisure in Vienna, or join an optional excursion to Schönbrunn Palace.

This evening, after dinner at your hotel, take in an included concert. You’ll travel to the baroque Palais Auersperg or one of Vienna’s other grand palaces near the Ringstrasse, for a concert featuring music by Mozart and the Strauss family.

Day 4 Vienna to Dürnstein 🎧

Enjoy a final morning at leisure in Vienna before embarking Spirit of the Danube later this afternoon.

Begin your cruise along the Danube to Dürnstein as you enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board tonight.

Day 5 Dürnstein to Melk 🎧

Dürnstein is set in the Wachau Valley beneath the ruined Kuenringer Castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned during the late 12th century.

After time at leisure or an optional tour of Dürnstein your ship will set sail for Melk. Here you'll have the opportunity to visit its Benedictine Abbey. Depart Melk during dinner and cruise through the night to Passau.

Day 6 Passau 🎧

Arrive in Passau around lunchtime. Enjoy the afternoon exploring the 'Venice of Bavaria', set at the meeting point of three rivers – the Danube, Inn and Ilz, and surrounded by wooded hills. Or, to make the most of your visit why not join an optional city walk and hear the history of this attractive town?

Spirit of the Danube departs late tonight.

Enjoy the morning exploring Linz on an optional excursion or independently.

Your ship departs during lunch and cruises overnight towards Bratislava.

Day 8 Bratislava 🎧

Bratislava, Slovakia

This morning you arrive in Slovakia's capital, Bratislava, where an included city tour takes you on a trip aboard the miniature city tourist train passing some of the highlights, including Bratislava Castle. You’ll step off the train in the Old Town for a walking tour to see the Archbishop’s Palace, St Martin’s Cathedral, the Market Square, Town Hall and more….

Spend the rest of the day at leisure or treat yourself to a glass of beer on an optional trip to the UFO observation tower or perhaps visit a pottery workshop on another optional excursion.

Day 9 Bratislava to Esztergom to Budapest 🎧

Your ship departs in the early hours, arriving in Esztergom before breakfast. It is perhaps the most beautiful of the small towns on the Danube Bend, and home to Hungary's largest basilica, the dome of which can be seen for miles. Perhaps explore here and the artistic community of Szentendre on an optional excursion.

Depart at lunchtime and cruise to Budapest, arriving early this evening.

Day 10 Budapest 🎧

Hungarian Parliament and the Chain Bridge in Budapest, Hungary

Your ship remains moored in Budapest for a full day and overnight stay.

This cosmopolitan city is divided by the Danube into Buda and Pest. Here you have the option to join an included city tour revealing some of the city's highlights, from the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Buda Castle that sits above the river on the west bank, to the impressive Hungarian Parliament buildings in Pest on the east bank or embark on the unique experience of an included culinary walking tour that features a live strudel-making demonstration and the opportunity to sample authentic chimney cake and Hungarian salami.

In the afternoon a choice of optional excursions includes a visit to Gödöllo Palace or trip to Lazar Equestrian Park Horse Farm.

Day 11 Budapest to UK

Disembark your ship and travel to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

Schonbrunn Palace

Visit the sumptuous Imperial Summer Palace of the Hapsburgs, the centre of royal life in the 18th century, inspired by Versailles. The UNESCO-listed palace is filled with priceless treasures, while the vast grounds feature well-manicured lawns and colourful flower beds.

Dürnstein walking tour and organ concert

Walk from the ship to the historic heart of Dürnstein, where the cobbled streets are home to traditional wineries and quirky little shops. Continue to Dürnstein Abbey with it’s blue and white steeple that can be seen from every angle of the town. After a tour of the historic abbey, owned by the Augustinian Canons of Herzogenburg Abbey, you will be treated to an organ concert featuring classical music composed by the likes of Mozart, Bach and Beethoven.

Melk Abbey

Set on a promontory overlooking the Danube, the wonderfully ornate Melk Abbey is a masterpiece of high baroque architecture. Work on the present monastery began in 1702. The imposing exterior features an octagonal dome and symmetrical towers, while the interior is lavishly decorated and contains many artistic treasures. After touring the abbey enjoy some free time in the lovely garden.

Passau city walk

A cultured city, Passau’s wealthy past is reflected in its many fine buildings, including the magnificent baroque St Stephen’s Cathedral and old and new Bishop’s Palaces. Enjoy a walking tour through the charming streets and the Danube’s riverside promenades.

Beer tasting at the UFO

Beer was first brewed in Bratislava by the Celts 2,000 years ago and has long competed with wine for the most popular drink in the region. This excursion ventures up to the UFO observation tower where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the city and the opportunity to sample a selection of locally brewed beer.

Majolica Pottery & Slovakian Wine Tour

Drive from Bratislava into the Small Carpathian region. Your first stop is at a Pottery workshop where the tradition of Slovak Folk Majolica dates back to the 16th century. It was brought to western Slovakia by Habans, who resettled from Germany to Switzerland. They manufacture more than 200 kinds of products here and production is mainly focused on traditional decors and shapes, thereby conserving cultural heritage of this region. The production is colourful, blue, green and majolica of Haban colours. There may also be an opportunity for guests to try out the pottery wheel! Afterwards continue to a traditional wine cellar where you will have the opportunity to taste some of the wines that this region is famous for. Your knowledgable host will explain wine making processes and give an introduction to the wines that you will be tasting.

Join a visit to the charming artists’ village of Szentendre, where the cobbled streets brim with fine galleries and museums – including one dedicated to Hungary’s celebrated ceramics artist, Margit Kovács. After the tour you’ll have some free time to explore at leisure.

Gödöllo Palace

The second largest baroque palace in the world, Gödöllo Palace was the former summer residence of Queen Elizabeth and Franz Joseph, Hapsburg Emperor and King of Hungary between 1867 and 1916. Gain an insight into the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the couple’s lavish lifestyle as you explore the interior, the Palace Theatre and gardens.

Lazar Equestrian Park

Travel to the Lazar Equestrian Park, owned by the world champion horse and carriage drivers, the Lazar brothers. After refreshments enjoy a fascinating show demonstrating exceptional horsemanship. Afterwards, take a carriage ride around the park, followed by a walk through the yard to see local breeds of livestock and visit to the stables where the Lazar's champion horses are kept.
