Tornado Pilot, Mandy Hickson
Mandy Hickson has over 30 years’ experience within aviation. She joined the Royal Air Force in 1994 and flew the Tornado GR4 on the front line, where she operated in hostile environments, including patrolling the ‘No Fly’ zone over Iraq. Since leaving the RAF Mandy has served as an Aviation Ambassador for the Department for Transport and is an Ambassador for the Girl Guides.
Mandy is now a highly demanded keynote speaker, where she talks with humour and great passion to inspire those around her. She has been invited to share her insights with some of the world’s most successful organisations, where she describes the strategies and behaviours that can be adopted when the stakes are at their highest. Mandy will give two talks during this cruise.

Watching over the entrance to the Mediterranean, stands the unmistakable limestone Rock of Gibraltar.
At its base lies Gibraltar which is connected to the end of the Iberian Peninsula by a sandy isthmus and offers an intriguing blend of British and Spanish culture.
Discover Gibraltar’s Palladian architecture and typically British sights, such as red pillar boxes and familiar highstreet chains.
Alternatively, visit the military museum or ascend the limestone monolith by cable car for panoramic views and to meet the mischievous Barbary macaques. From the top of the Rock you can look out over two continents: Africa lies just 13 miles to the south, whilst Europe stretches to the north.

Syracuse, Sicily

Originally a Greek colony, home to Archimedes, Syracuse is renowned for its well-preserved ancient Greek ruins. The archaeological site in the northwest of the town showcases a theatre built to seat 15000 spectators. The historic centre of Syracuse, known as Ortygia, is set on a small island surrounded by the Ionian Sea and is connected to the mainland by three bridges. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ortygia has an attractive piazza, Piazza Duomo, and the remains of the Temple of Apollo, a Doric structure dating from the 6th-century BC.

Heraklion, Crete

Named after Hercules, the capital of the Greek island of Crete has an extensive history stretching over 5,000 years. Once under Arabic, Venetian and Ottoman rule, both the island’s landscape and Heraklion itself are dotted with ancient relics that reveal more of its fascinating past. As you explore the charming backstreets hidden behind the fortification walls, look out for beautiful Venetian and Turkish fountains scattered across the city. You can choose to uncover more of Crete's history on a visit to the Palace of Knossos, court of the legendary King Minos whose wife Pasiphae gave birth to the Minotaur, half-bull, half-man. The Heraklion Archaeology Museum, which is regarded as one of the most important museums in Greece, is also a must-see attraction.

Canakkale, Turkey

Set on the Asian side of the Dardanelles, Canakkale is a gateway to the ancient ruins of Troy and the Gallipoli battlefields. It is a lively port city with a bustling harbour, squares and bazaar selling exotic goods. A replica of the Trojan horse stands tall on the waterfront, while the small yet fascinating Archaeological Museum features artefacts from both sides of the strait, including figurines from nearby Assos.

Join a tour to the ruins of Bronze Age Troy, thought only to be a mythical city as recounted in Homer’s epic Iliad, until unearthed by Heinrich Schliemann in 1870.

Izmir, Turkey

A new port of call for Saga Cruises, Izmir is set on Turkey’s Aegean coast and has a rich history that incorporates Greek, Roman and Ottoman influences. As a result there are numerous archaeological sites and a hilltop castle built during the reign of Alexander the Great.

Kusadasi, Turkey
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.
This large resort town on Turkey’s western Aegean coast is popular for its beaches and shops, and it also offers a gateway to the classical ruins of Ephesus. Among the Greek and Roman ruins of this UNESCO-listed ensemble is the great Library of Celsus and an amphitheatre built to seat around 24,000 people.

Bodrum, Turkey

Set on the scenic Bodrum Peninsula, which stretches into the Aegean Sea, the city of Bodrum has two bays, each with a view of medieval Bodrum Castle. The city is built on the remains of ancient Halicarnassus and was home to one of the seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Mausoleum of Halicarnasus, a model of which can be seen at the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology.

Rhodes Town, Rhodes

The island of Rhodes is a blend of ancient architecture and modern amenities. Its strategic position has been recognised since the fifth century BC, passing from Roman to Byzantine hands into possession of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem, the Ottomans, Italians, finally becoming part of Greece in 1948. Rhodes Town was founded in 408 BC and has a rich history, which you can discover on an included panoramic excursion. Many of the historic buildings in the old town were built in the 14th and 15th centuries, whilst the new town features much Italianate architecture.

Alexandria, Egypt

Alexandria, Egypt's second-largest city, has a thriving port along its 20-mile coastline and is a new port for Spirit of Adventure. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, the city was home to the Library of Alexandria, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Alexandria has many buildings of historic interest from 15th-century Citadel of Qaitbay overlooking the Mediterranean to the vast Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque. Numerous archaeological treasures can be found within the city’s museums, such as the Alexandria National Museum which contains over 1800 priceless pieces.

Chief among these are the imposing Moorish citadels of Alcazaba and its gardens, and the ruins of Gibralfaro Castle, as well as the Roman amphitheatre and Renaissance cathedral. Picasso, one of the city’s most famous sons, is celebrated at the Museu de Picasso in the artists’ quarter, which is also home to the Centre of Contemporary Arts as well as a host of smaller galleries and displays of street art.

Scenic Rock Tour - Included Excursion
Activity Level: Panoramic Activity
You start the tour by heading towards the airfield runway to reach the British/Spanish Frontier. Proceed towards the southernmost point of Gibraltar, Europa Point and the sight of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Great Britain. Here, alight from your tour vehicle to take some photographs of the views of the busiest shipping lane in the world, the mingling of the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and two continents.
Then, head to the Rock of Gibraltar. Drive past Princess Caroline’s Battery to Winston Churchill Avenue for a short stop at the road which crosses the runway of Gibraltar International Airport. Afterwards, head back to the ship.
Additional Information
Please note: This is a coach-based excursion with most of the sightseeing taking place from your vehicle. Any walking at any short photo stops will be at your discretion. The duration of this tour is dependent on traffic. Any type of wheelchairs, scooters or foldable walkers are not permitted on the buses. These can be brought to the bus and then stored at the terminal until you return from the tour. At Winston Churchill Avenue, if a plane is landing or taking off, the coach will stop behind the gate.

Noto on your own – Included Excursion – Option 1

Enjoy the opportunity to explore the Baroque city of Noto on your own. UNESCO-listed Noto was rebuilt in the 18th century after an earthquake destroyed the town in 1693.
After a 45-minute drive from Syracuse, passing through villages and almond groves you arrive in Siracusa province's second largest town – Noto. During the drive a guide will provide information and recommendations for what to do during your free time in Noto.
On arrival, walk the 400 yards to the centre of the town and then enjoy one-and-a-half hours at leisure to explore independently. We recommend taking a walk to the cathedral, browsing the shops or simply relaxing in a local bar or cafe where you can admire the surrounding architecture.
Additional Information
Please note: There is an essential walking distance of 800 yards which covers the walk to and from the town centre from the coach parking. You will have approximately one-and-a-half hours of free time to explore Noto independently, this excursion does not include a guided tour of Noto. Walking during free time is at your discretion. If you decide to explore the town fully, the walk along the main street is approximately 500 yards each way and there is additional walking and steps required if you decide to visit the cathedral.

Ortigia Island Walking Tour – Included Excursion – Option 2

Explore Ortigia, the charming old city of Syracuse, on foot with a local guide.
Meeting your guide at the pier, start your walking tour to Ortigia Island which stands on a peninsula. Enjoy an introduction to Syracuse’s historical centre where you can see Baroque architecture as you explore the narrow streets and open squares, home to churches and ancient ruins. Duomo Square is the central point of the city and home to Syracuse Cathedral, where you will enjoy a short visit inside.
Your walking tour ends with a stop at the Arethusa Fountain before returning to the ship on foot.

Please note: The duration of this tour can vary between one-and-a-half and two hours. This tour is entirely on foot, and there is up to two miles of walking, periods of standing and a few steps to enter Syracuse Cathedral. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. The order of sights may vary.

East Coast Island Drive – Included Excursion Option – 1

Take in the Aegean beauty of Rhodes on this leisurely drive, pausing to taste Ouzo along the way.
Begin with a drive along the island’s east coast through vineyards and fertile olive groves. Pause for a short photo stop in Lindos to take in its cluster of whitewashed houses hugging the shore, the rocky outcropping and the acropolis overlooking the maritime scene.
Later, you will see the small fishing harbour of Psarto where St Paul is said to have landed on the island. Enjoy a glass of Ouzo or wine before heading back to Rhodes, making a final stop at Monte Smith, the site of the acropolis of ancient Rhodes.
Conclude your tour with sweeping views over the city and the sea.

Rhodes Old Town Walk – Included Excursion – Option 2
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity

Take an introductory walk through Rhodes old town.
Meet your guide on the pier and stroll along the city walls, passing through the imposing gate to explore the cobblestone streets. Pass by the Jewish Quarter and the Plateia Evreon Martyron (Square of the Jewish Martyrs). Then head to the Turkish Quarter where you will see the exterior of the mosque of Suleymaniye.
Then, continue to the Street of the Knights, a narrow byway with medieval structures rising on either side, along with colourful shops and the 15th-century Hospital of the Knights – now home to an archaeological museum. Having explored the UNESCO-listed old town on this introductory walking tour you return to the ship.

Please note: Expect to walk up to one-and-a-quarter miles, which will include both uphill and downhill walks over cobblestones and uneven ground. The duration of this tour can vary between one-and-a-half and two hours. No entrances are included. In Rhodes Old Town there is a fee of €1 to use public restrooms. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility.

Introduction to Malta - Included Excursion - Option 1
Activity Level: Panoramic Activity
A choice between two included excursions is offered during your visit to Valletta – please select your place on just one of these excursions. It is not permitted to book both option 1 and option 2 and doing so will result in the automatic cancellation of one excursion.
Join an introductory tour of Malta where you can admire the varied landscapes and see some of the island’s villages by coach, as well as enjoying several photo stops along the way.
Leaving Valletta by coach you will travel towards the Blue Grotto on route to Ghar Lapsi, a seaside spot known for its clear waters and rugged coastline. Your tour continues to the Dingli Cliffs where you can enjoy a short stop and capture the view over the Mediterranean Sea. Back on the coach, head north through rural and agricultural landscapes, passing Malta’s Old Capital, Mdina and the town of Mgarr. Continue north towards St Paul’s Bay, where you have another short photo stop. Then, start to make the return journey to Valletta, with a comfort stop on route, before arriving at your ship.

Please note: This is primarily a coach-based excursion with some photo stops where walking is at your discretion. There is up to 100 yards of walking at the comfort stop. This tour may operate in a different order and some photo stops may be changed for your enjoyment. The comfort stop is approximately two hours into the excursion.

Explore Marsaxlokk On Your Own – Included Excursion – Option 2
Activity Level: Moderate Activity
A choice between two included excursions is offered during your visit to Valletta – please select your place on just one of these excursions. It is not permitted to book both option 1 and option 2 and doing so will result in the automatic cancellation of one excursion.
Uncover the sights of the fishing village of Marsaxlokk at your own pace on this excursion of independent exploration.
After a 30-minute drive from Valletta to Marsaxlook you will be dropped off in Marsaxlokk, where you will have one-and-a-half hours to explore at your leisure. During your free time you may like to browse the open market, take a stroll along the picturesque bay where colourful fishing boats bob in the water or just relax and with a coffee in one of the cafes.
After your free time here, return to your coach for the drive back to Valletta.
Additional Information
Please note: This is an excursion of independent exploration, where walking during the one-and-a-half hours of free time in Marsaxlokk is at your discretion. The coach parking is approximately 550 yards each way from the nearest amenities. To make the most of your visit to Marsaxlokk we recommend walking along the seafront – the distance along the seafront is approximately 750 yards. It is your responsibility to be at the drop-off point for the return drive at the given time. A guide will join you on the coach, but this tour does not include a guided tour. Maps of Marsaxlokk will be provided. We advise you to bring some euros should you wish to make a purchase.

This snapshot tour introduces you to the capital of the Costa del Sol, Malaga. The contrast between the old town and the modern industrial port has created a city rich in architectural variation.
Having passed the extensive beachfront, the Gilbralfaro Hill is your first destination. Here, your views extend past the bull ring, flanked by modern high-rise buildings, and out across the port and the city.
Leaving the hill, spot the Fountain of Three Faces, surrounded by symbols of fertility. The next destination is the Jardines de Puerta Oscura, or ‘Dark Entrance Gardens’. Here, the rugged hillside has been transformed into a luscious garden with several rose varieties.
As you continue your snapshot tour of the city, see the old post office and the Bank of Spain before crossing the river Guadalmedina. Finally, travel back to your waiting ship.

Alameda Gardens and Cable Car Ride

Stroll around the Alameda Gardens before capturing views of The Gibraltar Rock on a scenic cable car ride. This tour will also take you to delight in the collection of plants at Alameda Gardens, which are an important conservation project.
First, join your guide who will point out the various plants, sights and wildlife whilst also describing its rich history as you wander around the grounds. Gibraltar’s cable car is the territory’s only purpose-built tourist attraction, and you then have the chance to ride up to the very top of the Rock. Enjoy free time to wander around the many terraces and capture the views of the city of Gibraltar to the west and the coastline of Africa to the south.
After your tour, a shuttle service will take you straight back to the ship, or you may prefer to be dropped off in the Irish town pedestrian area to explore the many shops. Alternatively, relax in a pub or cafe, before making your own way back to the ship.

Please note: There is approximately one mile of walking. This excursion operates by mini-bus, cable car and on foot. At the entrance to the gardens there are 48 steps to negotiate. Once you are in the garden grounds, the paths are generally paved with some steep gradients, some areas may be uneven and there will be approximately 25 steps to negotiate throughout the gardens. Please expect queues and crowds at the cable car and be aware that the cable car may not operate during harsh weather conditions which can also affect the views you will see. Fortress Gibraltar and the WWII Tunnels

Learn about Gibraltar's unique wartime history on this tour. Begin by travelling past the British/Spanish Land Frontier. Your first stop is Europa Point, site of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Britain, where you can savour dramatic views of the Atlantic merging with the Mediterranean.
Next you will be taken to the nature reserve, home of the Northern Defences Sector, where you might be able to catch a glimpse of Gibraltar’s most famous residents, the mischievous Barbary apes. Continue to the Hays Level where you begin a guided tour and visit the exhibition which displays a collection of photographs illustrating the history of the World War Two tunnels.

Please note: This tour involves walking of up to approximately three-quarters-of-a-mile lasting around 45 minutes with a steep incline of 450 yards on the way out of the tunnels. There are some low ceilings in the tunnels.

Dolphin Watch
Go in search of dolphins and other marine life on this aquatic-creature based boat trip. Gibraltar’s bay boasts three species of dolphin and seven species of whale, as well as sunfish, flying fish and turtles. After departing from your ship, take the short drive to the ‘Dolphin World’ pleasure cruiser.
Then, after setting off into the bay, learn about the history of this tiny colony, and you will be given an insight into the marine life of the bay with a running commentary from your guide. After landing, return transport will be available back to the ship, or if there’s enough time, you can choose to walk into town for shopping and a little independent exploration.

Please note: We recommend that you take some warm clothing for the boat ride. This excursion involves approximately 300 yards of walking to reach the vessel and a couple of steps to board the vessel unassisted. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, and refreshments can be purchased on board if you wish. The boat is not exclusive to saga guests.

Panoramic Gibraltar and Gin Distillery
From the quayside, travel north towards Gibraltar’s unique airport runway to the border between this small British Overseas territory and Spain. Proceed along the outskirts of town, passing the American War Memorial and The Trafalgar Cemetery to arrive at Europa Point.
After a panoramic tour, you will be dropped off in front of the Bristol Hotel in Main Street, where you will be greeted by the Distillery Manager who will walk you to the venue. The tour begins with a brief history of the Art of Distilling, plus an insight into gin production before a comprehensive timeline of gin’s chequered past. Enjoy a gin tasting experience, before returning to the port.

Please note: There is approximately 100 yards of essential walking and a couple of steps to enter the venue. This is a small group tour with limited capacity. Any type of wheelchairs, scooters or foldable walkers are not permitted on the buses. These can be brought to the bus and then stored at the terminal until you return from the tour.

Rock Tour and St Michael’s Cave

Discover the iconic Rock of Gibraltar and St Michael's Cave on this excursion.
Leave the port and drive towards the airport to reach the British/Spanish Frontier. Then proceed towards the southernmost point of Gibraltar, Europa Point and the sight of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Great Britain. Pause here at the vantage point to take in the view.
From here, you head to the upper Rock area and to St Michael’s Cave, where you can wonder at the mass of stalagmites and stalactites. The cave recently underwent a £2 million investment and now features a state of the art ‘light and sound’ experience called ‘the awakening’.
Your coach then takes you to King Charles V Wall where you may see the famous Barbary apes. Then, head back to your ship.

Please note: Expect to walk 350 yards on this excursion. At Europa Point the ground will be flat with up to three steps. The are 75 steps to negotiate at St Michael's Cave. Comfortable, non-slip shoes are recommended as some areas of the cave can be slippery. This tour is not suitable for those with limited mobility, we have graded this excursion as moderate due to the number of steps you will need to negotiate inside the caves. Lighting in the cave is dim and coloured for effect.

Exploring Catania

See some of the sights of Catania from the coach before delving deeper during a guided walking tour of the city centre.
Leave the pier by coach and head to Catania. On arrival in ancient Catania, you will drive past several key sights, such as the Piazza Verga, Piazza Stesicoro and Villa Bellini, before taking a guided walking tour of the city centre.
It begins in the Piazza del Duomo, Catania’s central square, renowned for its black lava Elephant Fountain. See numerous university buildings surrounding the square, as well as the 18th-century Municipio. Catania was rebuilt after being destroyed by an earthquake in 1693, and lava stone was used in many buildings by architect Giovanni Vaccarini, giving the grand Baroque architecture a dusky twist.
Afterwards, you will have approximately 30 minutes of free time for shopping or relaxing in Via Etnea.

Ragusa – a City of Two Halves

Visit the city of Ragusa, known as a city divided in two, with its modern new town and ancient, Baroque style old town known as Ilba.
Leaving the port of Syracuse, drive towards Ragusa where you start your visit with a walking tour. After the earthquake of 1693, the city of Ragusa was rebuilt in a Baroque style and today Ragusa Ilba contains over 50 churches and palaces in this architectural style.
During your walking tour you will see some of the town’s highlights, including St George’s Portal, the 19th-century Giardino Ibleo Garden and Church of St James the Apostle, which was rebuilt in the 18th century. The Cathedral of St George, built between 1706 and 1760, has an impressive Baroque facade and bell tower and stands in a wide terrace on a loggia overlooking the central Piazza Duonmo.
After your walking tour there will be an opportunity to explore further during some time at leisure before re-boarding your coach and returning to Syracuse.

Neapolis Archaeological Park

Visit the archaeological park of Syracuse, which includes the northern part of the district of the Neapolis – one of the five that made up Syracuse in the Greek and Roman eras.
After a short coach transfer to the site you will alight to visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Augustus, built between the 4C – 3C BC for gladiatorial games. Considered the third largest in Italy after the Colosseum in Rome, it was built with an elliptical plan made of stone blocks and destroyed by the Spanish in the 16th century. Today, you can still see the seats, which are carved directly into the rock, and the arena where a rectangular hole was used to contain all the performances materials.
You will also see the Altar of Hieron, constructed in the 2nd century BC to celebrate the “Eleutherian Feast”, the Latomie of Paradise, which are huge caverns once used as prisons, and the Ear of Dionysius, an enormous grotto with an extraordinary echo. The cave was generically called the “Cave that speeches“, a name given by the painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio who visited in 1608. Also visit the Greek Theatre, one of the largest in the Hellenic World, constructed in the 5th century BC, before driving back to the pier.

Knossos and Heraklion Walking Tour

Combine a visit to Knossos, the foremost centre of the Minoan Civilisation with a guided walk through Heraklion.
Leaving Heraklion, transfer to Knossos by coach. Knossos was the court of the legendary King Minos, whose wife Pasiphae gave birth to the Minotaur: half-bull, half-man. The excavations on the site were first discovered by the English archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans and his team in 1893, with more findings lasting a following 35 years. Highlights of your trip to the site will include the Great Palace, the House of the High Priest and the Small Palace.
Following your visit, reboard your coach and return to Heraklion where you will enjoy a walking tour. There will be time to admire the Venetian-era Lions Fountain in Lions Square and stop outside the St Titus mosque-turned-basilica. Conclude your excursion with a stroll through the city’s famed Loggia, a 16th-century Venetian masterwork of arched arcades in the Piazza dei Signori.

Phaestos and Gortyn

Delve deep into the history of Crete, to the sites of Gortyn and Phaistos, for a glimpse of Europe’s oldest-recorded civilization.
The Minoans date back to at least 5000 BC and Crete was the first fertile land on which they farmed. Begin with a drive to the one of oldest and most influential cities of the Minoans, Gortyn. Visit its acropolis and the Odeum, where the first rule of law was inscribed on stones, the Law Code of Gortyn.
You will continue to Phaistos, once the wealthiest and most powerful city in Southern Crete, where you will enjoy a guided walk before returning to your ship.

Agios Nikolaos and Spinalonga Views

Visit the coastal town of Agios Nikolaos and capture a view of Spinalonga island during a photo stop in Plaka.
Renowned for its charming blend of traditional Greek culture and modern amenities, the coastal town of Agios Nikolaos features a harbour lined with cafes, plenty of restaurants and a view over the sea. Enjoy a short, guided walk and time at leisure before reboarding your coach and departing for the traditional fishing village, Plaka.
Here, you will pause for a short photostop to capture a view of Spinalonga, a small island once used as a leper colony before returning to your ship in Heraklion.

The Minoan Palace of Knossos & Archaeological Museum of Heraklion

Marvel at the remnants of Knossos Palace and discover enigmatic artefacts of the Minoan civilisation at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum.
Leaving the port of Heraklion by coach, head to Knossos Palace. Built around 1700 BC, it is believed to have been the home of King Minos and his legendary Labyrinth. Step back in time with a glimpse into Minoan civilisation as you explore the Royal Quarters, which features the Throne Room.
After your visit to the palace, delve deeper into the island's ancient history with a guided tour of Heraklion Archaeological Musuem. Here, admire millennia-old artefacts including pottery and frescoes that bring the island’s past to life. Your tour concludes with a stroll through Heraklion’s charming old town, where Venetian fortifications meet modern-day Creten life, before reboarding your coach for your return drive to the port.

Monastery of Arkadi and Old Rethymnon town

Visit the 16th-century Arkadi Monastery and explore the old town of Rethymnon.
Leave the port and drive approximately 45 miles west to Arkadi Monastery. This 16th-century building stands as a testament to the events of 1866 when, during Turkish occupation, approximately 700 women and children and roughly 300 guerrilla fighters had their lives taken when they took refuge in the Greek-Orthodox church. Continuing, you will arrive at the old town of Rethymnon, where you can enjoy a walking tour. The town still maintains its old aristocratic appearance, featuring many buildings dating from the 16th century.
Afterwards, explore further with some time at leisure before boarding your coach for the return journey to Heraklion port.

Scenic Heraklion and Agios Myron Village

Take a drive through Heraklion before heading southwest to see the cavern of St Myron and the village of Agios Myron where you will have a light refreshment.
Leaving the port of Heraklion, travel through the city by coach, passing the ancient city walls before heading 20km southwest to the cavern of St Myron, a site steeped in spiritual significance, pause here for a short photo stop before continuing to the main square of Agios Myronas, a charming village known for its historical roots dating back to the third and fourth centuries.
Whilst here you will visit a refreshment venue for a drink and a snack before returning to Heraklion by coach.

Please note: In Agios Myron Village, there is an essential walk to the refreshment venue of 350 yards each way with an uphill gradient. At the cavern of St Myron there are 12 steps, If you wish to enter inside the cave there are a further four steep steps to negotiate with no handrails. Archanes Village and Lyrarakis Winery

Visit the village of Archanes then head to Lyrarakis Winery to taste some wine.
Depart from the pier for a short panoramic drive of Heraklion Town as you make your way nine miles south to the Village of Archanes, nestled on the slopes of mount Giouhtas. Archanes, with its rich history spanning 5000 years, stands as a testament to the vibrant heritage of Crete. The region is renowned as the heart of Cretan wine production. On arrival, head off on a short, guided walk before enjoying some time at leisure.
Next, you will head to Lyrarakis Winery for a tour and wine tasting before returning to your ship in Heraklion.

Please note: Expect to walk up to one mile. Additional walking during your short free time in Archanes is at your discretion. The terrain at Lyrarakis Winery will be uneven, with a gravel pathway. The Legendary City of Troy

On this excursion, delve into the ancient city of Troy and its museum.
Uncover the mythology of the city, its Trojan Horse and Helen of Troy, while discovering the history of the groundbreaking archaeological excavations led by Heinrich Schliemann in the 1870s. In Troy, nine cities have been discovered; each built on top of the other dating back to 3500 BC. Listen to stories from the ancient city walls of Helen of Troy, the Trojan Wars, the battle between Archilles and Paris and of course the Trojan Horse.
After exploring the sites, the tour continues to the Archaeological Museum. The museum has four floors displaying rare artifacts from Troy and the surrounding region.

Battlefields of Gallipoli

Explore the historic battlefields of Gallipoli, a site of huge significance in military history.
After departing the ship, take a local ferry across the Dardanelles Strait to Eceabat, the gateway to Gallipoli National Park. This area honours the lives lost during the Gallipoli Campaign with monuments, cemeteries, and museums surrounded by serene forests. You will visit almost all major monuments and will explore the battlefield that witnessed the loss of many lives from both sides. Visit the Kabatepe Information Center, then onto the National Park, where you will see Anzac Cove, Lone Pine, 57th Regiment Turkish Cemetry and Conkbayır Hill. Gallipoli War has changed the destiny of Modern Republic of Turkey today and the lost lives of all nations are kept in the minds and the hearts of the whole Turkish nation.
Afterward, return to Eceabat, cross back to Çanakkale on the ferry, and end the tour with a photo stop at the iconic Trojan Horse before heading back to the ship.

Discover Canakkale

Visit the Naval Museum and the historic bazaar of Aynali Carsi, and see the Trojan Horse replica.
The tour begins with a visit to the Canakkale Naval Museum, founded on the 67th anniversary of the naval victory of the Ottoman fleet on March 18, 1915. See naval mines, cannons and anchors, as well as the remains of the UB-46 submarine, built in Bremen, Germany, and launched in 1915. Another exhibit is a replica of minelayer, which played a huge role in the defence of the Gallipoli Peninsula during World War One.
Your next stop is at the historic Bazaar, Aynali Carsi. The bazaar was built in 1890, on the instruction of Eliyau Hallio, and his epitaph can be seen above the entrance. It reads, “Based on Jewish calendar, this bazaar was built in year 5650, by Eliyau Hallio, to honor 14th anniversary of Sultan Abdulhamid II’s sultanate” in Ottoman and Hebrew languages. Lastly, take a walk along the seashore and pause for a photo of the Trojan Horse replica.

Coastal Drive
Drive along part of the coastal road before heading inland and stopping for a glass of wine at Hektor'un Yeri Wine House.
Leave the pier for a leisurely drive along the coastal road. You will pass by the Dardanelles Strait, one of the most significant commercial waterways in the world, which combines the Aegean Sea and Black Sea.
Enjoy the scenery as the drive continues inland to a local wine house, where you can enjoy a glass of regional wine paired with some cheeses to sample.
Afterwards, reboard the coach for the return drive to the ship.

Please note: This is mostly a coach-based excursion, the drive will last approximately two hours and you will spend approximately 45 minutes at Hektor'un Yeri Wine House. Ephesus and House of Virgin Mary

Visit the House of Virgin Mary before travelling to Ephesus, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you will explore on a guided walking tour.
Travel through the Turkish countryside to visit the house of the Virgin Mary, believed to be the place where the Blessed Virgin spent her final years. This sacred site has been honoured with visits from three Popes: Paul VI in 1967, Pope John Paul II in 1979 and most recently by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006.
Next, a short drive will bring you to Ephesus. On arrival you will begin your exploration of this ancient, UNESCO-listed site with a guided walk. Among the sights you will see are the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, temple of Hadrian and the most famous structure, the Library of Celcius. You can also see the Grand Theatre, where St Paul preached. It is one of the largest theatres in antiquity with a capacity of 24,000 seats.
Having seen the House of Virgin Mary and exploring Ephesus, you return to your ship in Izmir.

Ephesus with Terrace Houses

Visit the well-preserved ruins of Ephesus, a UNESCO World Heritage site and explore the ornate Terrace Houses, where the wealthiest residents lived.
The tour begins with a one-and-a-half-hour drive through the Turkish countryside to 3rd-century BC Ephesus, one of the largest Roman archaeological sites in the eastern Mediterranean. Begin your exploration of this ancient site as you pass by the Magnesia gate and enter the administrative section of ancient Ephesus to start your guided walk. Among the sights you will see are the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, temple of Hadrian and the most famous structure, the Library of Celcius. You can also see the see the Grand Theatre, where St Paul preached.
You will also visit the roofed complex inside the site which contains the well-preserved Terrace Houses of Ephesus to see where Ephesus’ wealthiest citizens lived. As you ascend the stairs through the enclosure, you will walk across glass flooring, used to preserve the ruins beneath and to enable you to view the foundations. The terrace houses are richly decorated with mosaics and frescoes and once featured running water, a treasured amenity in the Roman Empire.Having explored Ephesus and the Terrace Houses, return to your ship in Izmir.

Discover Ephesus

Enjoy a guided tour of Ephesus, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Ephesus is regarded as the most significant ancient ruin in Turkey, and will be the highlight of your tour. The journey begins with a one-and-a-half drive through the Turkish countryside to Ephesus, often described as an open-air Archaeological Museum. Your guided walk starts at the Magnesia Gate, leading you into the administrative heart of ancient Ephesus.
As you explore this remarkably well-preserved site, you will see the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, the steam baths of Scholastika, the Temple of Hadrian, and the renowned Library of Celsus. The library’s striking two-story façade features Corinthian columns on the lower level and three entrances. You will also see the Grand Theatre, where St Paul once preached. With a seating capacity of 24,000, it is one of the largest theatres from antiquity.
Having explored Ephesus, it is time for the return drive back to your ship in Izmir.

Pergamum Acropolis and Asclepion

Explore Pergamum’s most revered ruins. Visit the ancient healing centre Asclepion, before taking the cable car up to the Acropolis.
Drive north for one-and-three-quarter hours to the ancient city of Pergamum, first settled by the Greeks in the 8th century BC. Pergamum came into prominence after the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC. Your first stop is at the ancient healing centre of Asclepion – a complex built to honour the god of medicine, Asclepio.
Next, take the cable car up to the Pergamum Acropolis, which stands at a lofty elevation of 902 feet. It was once surrounded by three walls and had many public and private buildings, including temples and palaces, but very little remains today. While here, see the Library of Pergamum, second in ancient times only to the library in Alexandria, Egypt. Because of this great library, many scholars and teachers lived in this cultured city – parchment paper was invented here. You will also view the Temple of Trajan, built by Hadrian, before the return drive to your ship in Izmir.

The Village of Şirince

The Aegean village of Şirince, once predominantly a Greek village known for its location, vineyards, and rich fruit wines, is today a great place to explore rural life in Turkey.
Step back in time as you journey to the hillside village of Şirince, located about an hour-and-a-half drive from Izmir. Nestled among olive groves and vineyards, Şirince is known for its picturesque cobblestone streets, well-preserved traditional houses, and artisan shops offering handmade goods. On arrival, enjoy a leisurely, guided walk through the village, where you will have time to soak up the atmosphere and browse its quaint boutiques.
Next, you will head to Artemis Restaurant, where you will sample a selection of locally produced wines in a serene setting with views over the village and the valley beyond.

Please note: Expect to walk just under a mile, some of which will be over cobblestones and up to 20 steps to negotiate. This tour includes a sample tasting of five local wines. The drive to Şirince will take approximately one-and-a-half hours each way. You will spend approximately two hours in Şirince, which includes the village visit and wine tasting at Artemis Restaurant. Introduction to Izmir

Familiarise yourself with Turkey’s third-largest city, known as Smyrna in antiquity, with visits to the Agora and the History and Art Museum.
Explore the city of Izmir, set on a steep hill overlooking the bay of the same name. Izmir’s history dates back to 3000 BC, according to the findings of archaeological excavations. Now the third-largest city in Turkey, Izmir has always been a trading centre, and is famous for its port. Enjoy a panoramic drive through this very modern city, which has many traces of its ancient past. In the heart of the city, see the square with the Konak Mosque and Clock tower. You will have a short amount of free time in İzmir's old shopping streets of Kemeraltı.
Next, you will visit the remains of the old agora (marketplace). Constructed during the rule of Alexander the Great, it is now mostly in ruins. Your final stop will be at the Museum of History and Art, where you can see a collection of artifacts recovered from excavations including Bergama, Iasos, Bayrakli (Izmir's original settlement), and Izmir itself.

Please note: Expect to walk one-and-a-quarter miles. The terrain around the Konak will be paved sidewalks and cobblestones. The terrain at the agora will be uneven. There will be approximately 10 steps at the Konak, 5 steps at the Agora and 5 steps at the History and Art Museum. Any further walking during your short free time in Kemeraltı is at your discretion. You will spend approximately one hour at the Konak, which includes seeing the Konak Mosque and Clock tower exterior and free time in Kemeraltı. Ephesus Gates and Archaeological Museum

See the exterior gates of Ephesus before heading to the Ephesus Archaeological Museum which houses a number of exhibits from the ancient city.
Departing from Kusadasi, journey through the countryside on your way to Ephesus to view its iconic gates. At the Exterior Gate of Ephesus, your guide will share information about the site, including the Ancient State Agora, Temple of Diana, and Terrace Houses.
Next, a short drive will take you to the “Statue of Virgin Mary” where you will pause for photos as you make your way to the Lower Gate of Ephesus. On arrival at the Lower Gate, you can learn more information about the Ancient City of Ephesus.
The tour continues to Ephesus Archaeological Museum in Selcuk, which houses a number of exhibits from the ancient city including the Temple of Artemis and the Basilica of St. John. Seek out the famous statue of Artemis (goddess of fertility) which is also exhibited here.
Finally, a photo stop will be made to view the Temple of Artemis, considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World on the return journey to the ship in Kusadasi.

Explore Ephesus and the Archaeological Museum

Discover the well-preserved ruins of Ephesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, followed by a visit to the newly restored Ephesus Archaeological Museum.
From Kusadasi, a 30-minute drive takes you to third century BC Ephesus, one of the largest Roman archaeological sites in the eastern Mediterranean, once the location of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. On arrival embark on a walking tour with your guide to discover the remains of this once-thriving city. Highlights include the Odeon, Fountain of Trajan, Steam Baths of Scholastica, Temple of Hadrian, and the Library of Celsus.
After exploring Ephesus, head to the Ephesus Archaeological Museum, where your guide will take you through the museums various exhibits, showcasing the history of the ancient city.
Finally, return to Kusadasi by motorcoach.

Biblical Heritage

Drive through the Turkish countryside to the House of Virgin Mary where the Blessed Virgin is reputed to have spent the last years of her life.
The site has been visited by three Popes, Pope Paul VI in 1967, Pope John Paul II in 1979 and most recently by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006. A celebration of the holy mass will be conducted at this sacred site during your visit. You will then proceed to the remains of St John’s Basilica, which was once a great church built on a 2nd-century tomb, thought to hold the remains of St John. Here you will see frescoes, mosaics, and columns that attest to the glory that marked the place where St John the Evangelist lived and died.
Your last visit will be to the Temple of Artemis – one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and a holy place for pilgrimage. Your tour concludes with a drive back to the port at Kusadasi.

As the House of Virgin Mary is a religious place, you are required to wear conservative clothes. Didyma and Miletus

See the Temple of Apollo in Didyma and visit Miletus to see the ruins of the amphitheatre, Roman baths and a palaestra.
Leave the pier and journey to Didyma to view The Temple of Apollo, which was among one of the most famous oracles in the ancient world second only to the Temple of Delphi. One hundred columns surrounded the original shrine, today only a few remain standing.
Next, explore the ancient site of Miletus, one of the wealthiest cities during ancient Greek times. Here, you will see the amphitheatre, Roman baths and a palaestra (Greek wrestling school).
Afterwards, rejoin your coach for the return drive to Kusadasi.

Please note: The visits to Didyma and Miletus are conducted entirely on foot. There is walking of up to approximately one-and-a-quarter miles across uneven ground and cobblestones, with frequent steps. The drive to Didyma will take approximately one-and-a-quarter hours. Bodrum Peninsula and Gümüşlük

See the windmills of Bodrum and the Myndos gate during a drive around Bodrum’s peninsula before heading to the village of Gümüşlük.
Take a drive around the Bodrum Peninsula, pausing first at Gümbet Hill to see the old windmills and take in the vistas. From here, you can look towards Bodrum harbour to catch a glimpse of your ship. Then, after a short drive you will stop at the Myndos Gate, where Alexander the Great entered the ancient city of Halicarnassus in 334BC.
Afterwards, a 45-minute drive will bring you to the village of Gümüşlük, where strictly enforced building codes have ensured that the seafront has retained its original appearance and fishing village charm. You will have free time in Gümüşlük, before making your way back to the ship, stopping briefly at the Bodrum amphitheatre.

Please note: Expect to walk three-quarters-of-a-mile across uneven ground and cobblestones. Any further walking during your free time in Gümüşlük is at your discretion. Disembarking the coach at the short photo stops (Windmills and Myndos gate) is optional, if you choose to disembark the coach, you should expect to walk a further 150 yards over uneven ground with some inclines and to negotiate five steps at each of the stops. The drive to Gümüşlük will take approximately 45 minutes. You will spend approximately one hour in Gümüşlük.

Turgutreis and Gümüşlük

See the Myndos gate before driving to the town of Turgutreis and the village of Gümüşlük for a light refreshment.
Leave the pier make the short drive to the legendary Myndos Gate, where you will pause for a short photo stop. You will see the dusty remains of its once great moat, and learn about how countless people drowned here during the bloody siege of Alexander the Great.
Continue to the tip of the Bodrum peninsula to see its largest bay, white sandy beaches and the little town of Turgutreis. Within this quaint town, stroll along the charming waterfront and browse the local shops. Next, travel west to the fishing village of Gümüşlük. Buildings adhere to strict codes so the view from, and of, the seaside have remained unchanged. Original building fragments remain, and newer developments don not interfere with the coastal infrastructure.
Here, enjoy light refreshments in a local restaurant before heading back to the ship.

Ancient City of Iasos

Visit the site of the ancient city of Iasos founded in the 9th BC on a rocky peninsula.
Embark on a guided tour to ancient attractions and scenic landscapes in Iasos. Due to its privileged location, elegant marble inlays and abundant fishing heritage, Iasos has been inhabited since the earliest days of history. The city was theoretically founded by Greek colonists, and later inhabited by immigrants from Miletus.
However, archaeologists found that dwellings and artefacts date back even further to Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations. One of its most impressive monuments is an enormous mausoleum – a temple tomb in Syrian style. It dates back to the Roman period and many skeletons were discovered within the tomb.
Having explored the site you will return to your ship in Bodrum.

Bodrum On Foot

Walk to the centre of Bodrum to visit the Maritime Museum and enjoy free time to explore the town centre.
Your walking tour begins right from pier in Bodrum, accompanied by your guide you stroll through the streets of Bodrum towards the small Maritime Museum, set in the heart of the town.
On arrival at the museum, your guide will give you a short introduction before you spend time exploring the exhibits on your own. Immerse yourself in Bodrum’s maritime history, including traditional gulets, sponge diving tools, and nautical artefacts that reflect the town’s seafaring past.
Following your museum visit, you will have time at leisure to explore the centre of Bodrum independently. Perhaps browse the local shops, relax in a nearby cafe, or admire the view of the harbour and historic castle.
At the designated time, rejoin your guide for a return walk back to the ship.

Castle of the Knights of St Peter – Small Group Experience
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
Explore the Castle of St Peter, built by the Knights of St John between 1406-1522 on a rocky peninsula in Bodrum. Today, it houses the Underwater Archaeology Museum.
The tour begins with a short drive from the port to near the castle where you will disembark at the nearest accessible location and continue on foot to the Castle of St Peter and the Museum of Underwater Archaeology.
Spend the next two hours exploring the fortress, built by the Knights of St John, which now houses collections of underwater archaeology. The exhibits include ancient shipwrecks, amphorae, and maritime artefacts from the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. Following the guided visit, you will have some time at leisure to explore Bodrum independently.
Perhaps head to a local cafe or shop for souvenirs. The tour concludes with a walk back to the pick-up point for the return drive the ship.

The surface at the castle will be uneven with cobblestones, and there will be 40 steps to negotiate. You will spend approximately two hours at the Castle of St Peter and will have approximately one hour of free time in Bodrum. Vehicular access to the castle is restricted, therefore a minibus will be used to transfer you to the nearest suitable drop-off point to the castle. The drive to the drop-off point will take approximately 20 minutes each way. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. The Castle and Archaeology Museum are not under the water, but house artifacts and works from under the water.

The Acropolis of Lindos

Hike up to an ancient acropolis, which will reward you with vistas of the azure sea and a whitewashed town.
Leaving the port of Rhodes, travel to the pastel village of Lindos, where you will enjoy a stroll through narrow cobblestone streets to the foot of the Acropolis. After climbing the 200 steps to the top of the rocky outcropping, you can take in the sight of the Doric Temple of Lindian Athena, enclosed within the walls of the Castle of the Knights. Also admire the 18th-century frescoes of the Byzantine Church of St John from above, along with the sweeping turquoise sea views and the small fishing village of Psarto.
Later, you will head back to Lindos where you’ll board your coach and return to your ship.

Filerimos and Grand Masters Palace

Take the chance to witness the city of Rhodes from a historic mountaintop and the intimacy of its medieval streets.
First you will travel to the summit of Mt Filerimos, where you will have time to explore the ancient city of Ialyssos and admire the Church of our Lady, built by the Knights of St John during the 15th century. You will also see the Church of St George with its wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries.
Afterwards, return to the Old Town of Rhodes where you will continue your tour on foot through narrow, cobblestone streets. Follow the Street of the Knights past colourful shops and the 15th-century Hospital of the Knights to the colossal, 14th-century Palace of the Grand Masters. Marvel at its opulent interior, including fresco-adorned walls and mosaic-tiled floors.
Your tour concludes with a short walk back to your ship.

Flavours of Rhodes

From iconic sights to delicious cuisine, experience the flavours of Rhodes Old Town and what it has to offer.
First, a short drive will take you to the Monte Smith viewpoint, the site of the acropolis of ancient Rhodes. Pause here for a short time to soak up the vistas and take plenty of photos. Continuing your tour, return to the Old Town, Europe’s largest active medieval town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk along its cobblestone lanes, passing medieval structures along the Street of the Knights.
After your guided walk, you will head to the LIPSI Restaurant in the Old Town – a popular Greek gem where a local chef will greet you. Watch as they prepare a healthy, tasty Mediterranean meal using fresh local ingredients and just the right amount of herbs and spices. Once the session is complete and your meal is prepared, settle in for a rewarding lunch, accompanied by the local house wine.
Having tasted the flavours of Rhodes, it is time to return to your ship.

Pompey’s Pillar and Catacomb

See the Pompey Pillar; a red granite column built to honour Emperor Diocletian and Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa on this half-day excursion.
Leaving the pier, your tour starts with a drive past Mansheya Square, the location of the Unknown Soldier Memorial was built by Mohamed Aly Basha for those Marines Soldiers who lost their lives in the Battle of Navarino in Greece during the campaign lead by his son Ibrahim Basha.
Continue to Pompey's Pillar, a large granite column rising from the ruins of the Temple of Serapis. After visiting Pompey’s Pillar, drive to the Catacombs, which make up the largest-known Roman burial site in Egypt. The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa are considered to be the best example of mix- iconography among ancient Egyptian, Greek & Roman arts & Mythology. The cemetery, with Alexandrian tombs, statues and artefacts, suggests that the Catacombs date back to the second century AD and are located 100 feet underground. A spiral staircase provides entry to the necropolis maze of tunnels and rooms, where temple motifs are used to embellish the main burial chamber.
After exploring and learning about the Catacombs, reboard your coach for your return journey, during which you will stop outside Qaitbay Fort for a short photo stop.

Please note: Expect to walk up to half a mile over ground which is uneven and with periods of standing throughout. You will need to negotiate 45 steps at Pompeii Pillar. Access to the catacombs is through a spiral descent around an open central well with 100 steps to negotiate. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. This is a strenuous tour which is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. You will spend approximately one hour at Pompeii Pillar and approximately one hour at the Catacomb. The return journey to the ship will take approximately one hour which includes pausing for a short photo outside Qaitbay Fort.

Discover El Alamein
Activity Level: Moderate Activity
Visit the war museum and Commonwealth War Cemeteries at El Alamein.
Leaving the pier, you travel for approximately two hours to the War Museum at El Alamein. On arrival you can explore the four halls displaying weapons, tanks and military items recovered from the battlefield. After your visit, the tour continues to the Commonwealth War Cemeteries, perched on a small peninsula overlooking the sea. Here are the resting places of British and commonwealth soldiers.
On your return journey to Alexandria you can enjoy a stop for a local lunch before returning to the ship.

Please note: There is up to half a mile of essential walking on this excursion and up to 25 steps. Some walking will be over uneven ground. During any time at leisure walking is at your discretion. Pyramids of Giza and Lunch on the River Nile

See the iconic pyramids of Giza and enjoy lunch on the River Nile.
Leaving the port early, your tour begins with a drive to Cairo, which can take over three hours and will include a comfort stop along the way. The first stop will be at the Western Plateau of Giza for a panoramic view of the Great Pyramids. You will then have the opportunity to visit the pyramids on a short, guided orientation before exploring further at your leisure. Leaving the pyramids, head towards the Nile, stopping at the Papyrus Institute on route where you can learn about the ancient Egyptian art of making paper.
Arriving at the Nile, you will board a Pharoah boat and enjoy lunch on board. Afterwards, board your coach for the return journey to Alexandria, stopping at a traditional Bazar before returning to the ship. The return drive to the ship can take over three hours and will include a comfort stop.

Pyramids of Giza and The Grand Egyptian Museum

Relish the opportunity to see the awe-inspiring pyramids of Giza and explore the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza.
Leaving the port early, your tour begins with a drive to Cairo, which can take over three hours and includes a comfort stop along the way. The first stop will be at the Western Plateau of Giza for a panoramic view of the Great Pyramids. Next, you will see the pyramids, where you will have a short, guided orientation walk before enjoying time at leisure to explore further.
Afterwards, head to the Steinberger hotel for lunch before visiting the Grand Egyptian Museum (Giza Museum) – where you can uncover Egypt’s history spanning over 50 centuries. After your exploration of the museum, reboard your coach for the return journey to Alexandria, stopping at a traditional Bazar before returning to the ship.
The return drive to the ship can take over three hours, but a comfort stop will be made on route.

Graeco Roman Museum

Visit the Graeco Roman Museum, which houses an archaeological collection dedicated to the Greek and Roman eras of Egypt.
Leaving the pier, your tour starts with a drive to Mansheya Square, the location of the Unknown Soldier Memorial, built in remembrance of those soldiers who gave their lives in the North African and Middle Eastern campaigns during the two World Wars. The founder of modern Egypt, Mohammed Alli is also commemorated in the square with a bronze statue.
Continue to the Graeco-Roman Museum, which re-opened its doors to the public in 2023 after 18 years of renovation work. The exhibitions showcase artifacts from the Hellenistic and Roam eras, including statues, pottery and mosaics that narrate the story on ancient Alexandria’s history.
Next, head to the 21st-century Bibliotheca (Library) for an exterior photo stop. The Bibliotheca was built to replace the greatest seat of learning in history, the Great Library of Alexandria, which burnt down during the collapse of the Roman Empire.
As you make your way back to the ship, pause for an exterior view of the Qaitbay Fort.

Catacomb and Bibliotheca

Combine a visit to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa with a visit inside the Library of Alexandria.
Leaving the pier, your tour starts with a drive past Mansheya Square, the location of the Unknown Soldier Memorial, built in remembrance of those soldiers who gave their lives in the North African and Middle Eastern campaigns during the two World Wars.
A short drive will bring you to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages. The cemetery, with Alexandrian tombs, statues and artefacts, suggests that the Catacombs date back to the second century AD and are located 100 feet underground. A spiral staircase provides entry to the necropolis maze of tunnels and rooms, where temple motifs are used to embellish the main burial chamber.
Next, you will head to Alexandria’s modern library, Bibliotheca, where you will have a guided visit before returning to your ship.

Malta’s Mysterious Megaliths

Explore the mysteries of the ancient Tarxien Temples and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hagar Qim. Travel by coach to Malta’s southern town of Tarxien to visit its famous temples. Discovered by farmers in 1913, the Tarxien Temples date back to 3150 BC and offer a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Malta's prehistoric civilisation.
The journey continues to the equally impressive Hagar Qim. These megalithic structures date back 6,000 years, predating the pyramids of Egypt and making them among the most ancient sacred sites on Earth. Start your visit with a short audio-visual presentation in the visitor centre.
Then proceed to the Hagar Qim Temples. The purpose of these mysterious structures is the subject of much debate. With a guide you will proceed to view the Mnajdra Temples – perhaps the best preserved and most evocative of Malta’s prehistoric sites. Your tour continues with a scenic drive along the scenic Dingli Cliffs, offering a panoramic view of Malta's rugged coastline. The journey includes a stop at Ghar Lapsi, where you can disembark, wander at your leisure, and capture photos of this serene coastal setting before making your way back to the ship.

Medieval Mdina and Mosta

Enjoy a scenic ride from Valletta through the pretty towns and villages of Malta to Mdina.
Known as the ‘Silent City’, it is the former capital of Malta and one of the finest ancient walled cities in the world. Walk through part of it and see the many handsome buildings and narrow streets, palaces and museums.
You first visit the Baroque Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul, rebuilt at the end of the 17th century, and then continue to the bastions for a panoramic view of the island.
Next, travel to Mosta Square, admiring the Mosta Dome which crowns the Church of the Assumption. During World War Two, a shell penetrated the dome but landed unexploded on the church floor. Spend some time here and see a replica of the bomb, which is housed inside, before returning to the ship.

Malta’s Capitals - Old and New: Medina and Valletta

Take the scenic route to Malta's old capital, Mdina, which is one of the world's finest examples of a living medieval city.
Stroll through the narrow streets and let your guide introduce you to its history. From the bastions, enjoy a fantastic view over the valley and the surrounding areas. Leaving Mdina, travel by coach to Valletta, the present-day capital. Walk to St John's Co-Cathedral and view this lovely building from the outside, and also see the exterior of the Grand Master's Palace.
Continue past the Auberge de Castille, your last stop is at the Barrakka Gardens, located on the highest point of the 16th-century walls.

Gardens of Malta

Visit three of Malta’s Gardens, San Anton Gardens, Buskett Gardens and Upper Barakka Gardens. Your tour starts with a short drive to St Anton Gardens, which surround San Anton Palace – the official residence of the President of Malta. These elegant gardens date from the 17th century, when each visitor would gift a new plant to the garden’s collection.
During your visit admire the array of ancient trees, some of which are more than 300 years old. Next, head to Buskett Woodlands, one of Malta’s few woodland areas, and an oasis of greenery dedicated to preserving the endemic flora and fauna. Planted by the Knights of Malta, the Buskett Gardens form part of the Verdala Palace, another official residence of the President of Malta.
Pause at a refreshment venue for a soft drink before continuing to the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta, renowned for its history, scenery and surroundings. Located on the upper tier of St Peter and Paul Bastion, which was built in the 1560s, here you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Grand Harbour and the surrounding landscape before a short drive to the port.

Harbour Cruise
Your tour starts with a short coach transfer to Sliema, where you will board your boat and set off to visit the ports of Marsamxett and the Grand Harbour. These natural creeks make Valletta one of the most beautiful ports in Europe. The views of the fortifications from the seaward side are unique and a treasure for photographers. The harbour mouth faces north-east and is bounded to the north by St Elmo’s Point and to the south by Ricasoli Point. Its north-west shore is formed by the Scebarras Peninsula, which is largely occupied by the city of Valletta and its suburb Floriana.
A detailed commentary will tell you the history of Valletta and the Three Cities of Birgu, Senglea and Cospicua, with particular emphasis on the two Great Sieges of 1565 and 1942. Also hear about other places of interest including the historic forts, battlements and creeks that can only be admired from the sea. These include Fort St Angelo, which withstood the Turks during the Great Siege of Malta, and Fort Ricasoli, built by the Knights of Malta between 1670 and 1693. You will also see Manoel Island with its fort, in Marsamxett Harbour, as well as the city walls that surround Valletta.
Afterwards, a coach short transfer will take you back to Valletta.

Valletta City Walk

Set off from the pier with your guide as you embark on a walking tour of Valletta.
The first stop of the tour is twenty-storey-high Barrakka Lift. Although rebuilt in 2012, the lift sits on the same site as the original, which operated between 1905 and 1973. Ride the lift 58 metres to the Upper Barrakka Gardens, the highest point of the 16th-century bastion walls that the Knights of St John built to protect the city. Here you can enjoy a view of the Three Cities and the Grand Harbour.
Your walking tour will then take you into the centre of Valletta where your guide will bring to life the history of Malta’s charming capital. Take the opportunity to admire the Mannerist exterior of St John’s Co-Cathedral, which dates back to 1573, before passing the Grand Master’s Palace and President’s Office.
At the end of the tour, your guide will take you back to the ship by taking the lift down to the port.

Malaga Walk and the Flamenco

This excursion provides an introduction into the heart and surroundings of Malaga. Your guide will bring Malaga’s past and present to life on a panoramic tour of the city.
Driving past the sub-tropical gardens of the park to the bullring in the eastern side of the city, your coach will wind its way to Gibralfaro Castle, where a short photo-stop will be made at a scenic viewpoint.
Going back down into the city, leave the coach and walk to the Flamenco venue. After a short introduction enjoy some authentic flamenco music and dancing, accompanied by a ‘tapa’ and a glass of Malaga wine.
Following the show, continue with a walking tour through the historic part of Malaga, passing the ruins of the Roman theatre, and viewing the Moorish Alcazaba Palace from below.
Afterwards, return to your coach and head back to the ship.

Mamas and Tapas Experience

Leave the port of Malaga and head off for an authentic Andalusian experience! Travel by coach to the town of Colmenar. Here you will experience a tasting of traditional churros and chocolate.
Drive towards Alfarnate, visiting a traditional olive mill and the groves of olive trees that surround it. Spain is the world´s leading olive oil producer and has more than 300,000,000 olive trees that occupy some 5.2 million acres. The industry has flourished for centuries: vast numbers of pottery amphorae bearing the names of Spanish oil farms have been uncovered in the ruins of ancient Rome.
After visiting the mill, you will be immersed in Spanish life as you visit a Spanish family for a tour of their home and garden before setting down to enjoy some tapas. The idea behind this concept is to offer a genuine Spanish experience with home-cooked food, a welcoming atmosphere and the chance to interact with a real Spanish family.
Learn about Spanish culture, eating habits, routines and their way of life before it is time to bid a cheery “Hasta luego” and return to the port.

The drive to Colmenar will take approximately 45 minutes. You will spend approximately 30 minutes at the Olive mill in Alfarnate. Lunch will last approximately two hours. The return drive to the ship will take approximately one-and-a-half hours. The lunch will depend on the season, example menu: salads, soups, cheese and ham as starters. Delights of Ronda
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
Discover the city of Ronda, known for its unique location, emblematic bridge and interesting history. Your tour starts as you leave the port of Malaga and head inland to reach the Serrania de Ronda craggy mountains.
Arriving in Ronda you will start your visit with a walking tour of this Moorish city with its narrow, cobbled streets and windows covered with elaborate wrought-iron grilles. The cathedral incorporates the remains of a mosque, and many of the old houses bear on their façades the coats-of-arms of former aristocratic owners.
Also see the Puente Nuevo Bridge, which joins the old city to the Mercadillo. Visit the interior of the bullring, which is the second-oldest in Spain. Enjoy some free time for shopping or relax in the park before your lunch, which is included at a local restaurant, before heading back to Malaga via San Pedro de Alcantara and the coastal highway.

Please note: The walking tour in Ronda is over approximately two miles and is partly over cobbled streets, with about 20 steps. You will spend approximately two-and-half hours in Ronda. Additional walking during your free time is at your discretion. Sighting of eagles or other wildlife during the drive cannot be guaranteed.
The cancellation deadline for this excursion is four days prior to the port visit due to the lunch venue requirements. Lunch will include sharing plates for starters (salad, Migas Rondeña and fried aubergines with honey) and a choice of fish or chicken for main. A refreshment with lunch is also included. You must inform the Explore Ashore Manager of your choice of main course and any dietary requests at least 72 hours prior to arrival.
The drive to/from Ronda will take approximately two hours each way. This tour has limited capacity and is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Mijas and Marbella

This excursion visits the picturesque village of Mijas, located at the foothills of the Sierra, and the resort town of Marbella.
Start your tour with a transfer to Marbella, where you will have a guided walk around the old town. See the Plaza de Los Naranjos, the City Hall and the Nuestra Señora de Ia Encarnacion church. You will also have some free time to shop or simply relax.
Next, continue to Mijas, a typical Andalusian village perched high above Fuengirola and Mijas Costa. During your visit you will explore the town, a web of narrow cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses with red-tile roofs. Walk, with your guide, through this charming village passing the bullring and the church, browse the handicraft shops and the locally made ceramics and leather goods.
You will also have some time at leisure here before returning to the ship by coach.

Andalusian Olive Oil and Mijas – Small Group Experience

Learn more about olive oil production in the traditional town of Alhaurin el Grande, around 22 miles from Malaga.
Travel from the pier to Alhaurin el Grande, where you will visit Molino la Paca, surrounded by the Sierra de Mijas hills, to learn about olive oil production. It takes around seven to nine years for olive trees to produce quality olives that are ready to be harvested. Methods of harvesting have changed over time from traditional manual picking to a mechanical process, improving efficiency and profitability. There is the opportunity to enjoy a tasting of the delicious extra virgin olive oil, served with bread, while you learn about olive oil classification based on acidity levels.
Afterwards, continue towards the picturesque village of Mijas. Here you will have the opportunity to explore at your leisure, wandering through its cobbled streets adorned with whitewashed houses, quaint shops, and panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean coastline.
Finally, re-board your coach for the return drive to the ship.

Malaga Masterpieces – Picasso's Birthplace and Cathedral – Small Group Experience

Visit the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, enjoy a walking tour through historic Malaga and venture into the Cathedral of Malaga.
Depart the pier on a panoramic drive towards the old town where your first stop will be at Plaza de la Merced. Here, you visit the birthplace of world-famous artist Pablo Picasso. Visit the house where Picasso was born and raised, and gain an insight into the early influences that shaped the artist’s groundbreaking creative vision.
Next, you will embark on a leisurely walking tour through the ancient streets of Malaga. Admire the ruins of the Roman Theatre, an architectural marvel dating back to the 1st century BC, and imagine the vibrant cultural performances that once graced its hallowed stage. Your final visit will be at the Cathedral of Malaga, a masterpiece of Renaissance and Baroque design.
Step inside to marvel at its vaulted ceilings, intricately carved altars, and stained-glass windows, as your guide unveils its rich history before returning to the ship.
