Argostoli
A jewel in the emerald waters of the Ionian Sea, Kefalonia’s rugged coastline is dotted with pretty coves and white-sand beaches. The island’s seaside capital Argostoli is a lively spot with an attractive coastal promenade, strung with local eateries and beaches. Spend time here visiting the archaeological museum or strolling around the botanical garden.
Chania and Heraklion
With a strip of golden sand, waterfront eateries and monuments such as the 16th-century lighthouse, Chania’s sights are endlessly fascinating. Elsewhere, Crete’s capital Heraklion plays host to the Palace of Knossos and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum – an unforgettable look into Crete’s past.
Hydra
A new port of call for Saga’s Greek Island cruises in 2024, the car-free island of Hydra should not be overlooked. Katakolon
The laidback Greek seaside town of Katakolon is set around a pretty waterfront that is scattered with classic tavernas and a long beach. The town also provides the gateway to Ancient Olympia, the archaeological site where the Olympic Games took place for more than 1,100 years. Piraeus

Knossos & Heraklion Walking Tour
Pay a visit nearby Knossos, said to be the capital of the legendary King Minos. Once the centre of the Minoan civilization, it dates back to 1900 BC. While in Heraklion, there’s the chance to admire the Venetian-era Lions Fountain in Lions Square and stop outside the St Titus mosque-turned-basilica. Conclude your excursion with a stroll through the city’s famed Loggia, a 16th-century Venetian masterwork of arched arcades in the Piazza dei Signori.
Athens & The Acropolis
Crowned by the Acropolis, Athens is a bustling, modern metropolis awash with history. An excursion here includes an introduction to the city sights such as Constitution Square, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Olympic Stadium. Then it’s on to the Acropolis itself for an up-close exploration of Athens’ most impressive sights accompanied by a guide. It was on top of this this rocky hill in the 5th century BC where the foundations of modern democracy were conceived.
Highlights Of Kefalonia & Melissani Lake
Steeped in myth, the fishing village of Lindos is crowned by its own impressive acropolis. Start your adventure by strolling through the village’s charming cobbled lanes to the foot of the acropolis, where 195 steps to the top of the rocky outcrop await. Successive civilisations and powers have left their mark on the acropolis including the Greeks, the Romans, the Knights Hospitaller and the Ottomans. One of the oldest sites here is the Temple of Athena Lindia, which dates back to 300 BC, but was built on the grounds of an even earlier temple.
Hydra Walking Tour
Artists, writers and film-stars have long flocked to this attractive island. With grand mansions housing museums dedicated to Greek history and a clutch of charming churches to visit, Hyrda is a car-free island that is truly a joy to discover on foot. Join a walking tour of the town and relish in the island’s architecture. There’s the 18th-century Monastery of the Assumption of Virgin Mary; Koundouriotis Mansion, the former home of wealthy ship owner built in 1780; and the coastal bastions, complete with cannons in situ, ideal for sweeping sea views.
Olympia & Magna Grecia Olive Farm
No cruise around Greek Islands would be complete without the chance to visit the remarkable site of Olympia – site of the first Olympiad in 776 BC. Situated in the middle of a fertile valley alongside flowing rivers, visiting here offers a window into the ancient Olympic Games. The famous Stadium, complete with an arched passageway, was the largest of its day with a capacity of 45,000 spectators. The site was also once home to a wonder of the ancient world: the Statue of Zeus at Olympia. After a tour of Ancient Olympia, it’s onwards to the nearby Magna Grecia estate where you will be welcomed with a glass of ouzo. Here you can sample local wine and olive oil along with delicious homemade snacks before strolling around the estate’s olive trees and vineyards.
