At its base lies Gibraltar which is connected to the end of the Iberian Peninsula by a sandy isthmus and offers an intriguing blend of British and Spanish culture. Alternatively, visit the military museum, which is housed underground in a former military barracks and exhibits artefacts dating back to the 18th century.

Set on the eastern shore of the Mani Peninsula, the traditional Greek town of Gythio was once the main gateway to the ancient city of Sparta. Today, it has an extensive waterfront with views over the Laconian Gulf, a warren of quaint streets, sandy beaches and several Roman ruins, including a theatre. On the Kranae islet, near the port of Gythio, the Tzanetakis Tower houses the Historical and Ethnological Museum of Mani.

The little island of Syros is part of the Cyclades archipelago in the South Aegean. Its charming capital Ermoupouli features pastel-coloured buildings and pedestrianised lanes shaded by canopies of pink bougainvillea. The central market is a hub of activity where local produce such as cheese, olive oil and souvlaki are sold. There are numerous churches in the area, including the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin which houses a 16th-century painting of the Assumption by El Greco.

Cruise into the Pagasetic Gulf to visit the city of Volos, located at the foot of Mount Pelion. Volos was the starting point of the ancient expedition of Jason and the Argonauts, one of the best-known chapters of Greek Mythology. Today, the city has grand architecture, historic churches and over ten museums, including The Archaeological Museum, which has exhibits dating back to the Neolithic Period.

The exceptional well-preserved 5th-century BC complex watches over the city from a rocky outcrop and encompasses the monumental Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the Propylaia and the temple of Athena Nike. In its lee sprawls the old Plaka neighbourhood packed with tavernas, cafes and small shops.

This ancient port city sits on the east coast of Sicily at the foot of Mount Etna and is a new port of call for Spirit of Adventure. The grand, UNESCO-listed central square, Piazza del Duomo, is overlooked by the elaborate cathedral dedicated to St Agata, the patron saint of Catania. At the centre of the square is the 18th-century Elephant Fountain, designed by architect Giovanni Battista Vaccarini. Much of the surrounding architecture is built from volcanic basalt, which has earned Catania the title, 'the city in black and white'.

Take a drive around the rock of Gibraltar.
You start the tour by heading towards the southernmost point of Gibraltar, Europa Point, and the sight of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Great Britain. Here, alight from your tour vehicle to photograph the world's busiest shipping lane, the meeting point of the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and two continents.
Next, drive past Princess Caroline’s Battery to Winston Churchill Avenue for a short stop at the road which crosses the runway of Gibraltar International Airport. Afterwards, you return to the ship.
Additional Information
Please note: This is a coach-based excursion with most of the sightseeing taking place from your vehicle. Any walking at any short photo stops will be at your discretion. The duration of this tour is dependent on traffic. Any type of wheelchairs, scooters or foldable walkers are not permitted on the buses. These can be brought to the bus and then stored at the terminal until you return from the tour. At Winston Churchill Avenue, if a plane is landing or taking off, the coach will stop behind the gate.
Rock Tour and St Michaels Cave - Included Excursion Option 2

Discover the iconic Rock of Gibraltar and explore the remarkable St Michael’s Cave. Depart the port and drive past the airport towards the British–Spanish frontier before continuing to Europa Point, Gibraltar’s southernmost tip and home to the only Trinity Lighthouse located outside Great Britain. There will be a chance to pause here to take in the panoramic views.
Next, continue up to the Upper Rock to visit St Michael’s Cave, which has recently benefited from a two million pound transformation. Here you can marvel at the formations of stalactites and stalagmites that fill this natural wonder. Your journey then takes you to King Charles V Wall, where you may encounter Gibraltar’s famous Barbary apes, before returning to your ship.

Please note: Expect to walk 350 yards on this excursion. At Europa Point the ground will be flat with up to three steps. The are 75 steps to negotiate at St Michael’s Cave. We recommend that you wear non-slip shoes as some areas of the cave, such as the steps, can be slippery. We have graded this excursion based on the number of steps you will need to negotiate inside the caves. This tour requires a good level of fitness and mobility. Lighting in the cave is dim and coloured for effect.
Gibraltar on Foot - Included Excursion Option 3

Join an introductory walk of Gibraltar.
A short bus transfer takes you to Casemates Square. Here you will set off on foot and walk along Gibraltar's Main Street to learn about its history during the Moorish, Spanish and British periods. Continue past the old Police Station to the Piazza, home to Gibraltar’s former City Hall and the official residence of the Mayor. From there, stroll down Bomb House Lane, passing the Gibraltar Museum and the synagogue before reaching Cathedral Square for an exterior view of the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Finally, make your way towards King’s Bastion, once the main battery defending the town and a key position for General Eliott during the Great Siege, before returning to your ship.

Please note: Expect to walk up to two miles, with some cobblestone ground and inclines to negotiate. There are up to 55 steps to negotiate. A good level of fitness and mobility is required for this tour. No entrances are included, exterior visits only. There will be a short bus transfer of approximately 10 minutes at the start and end of the tour.
Introduction to Malta - Included Excursion Option 1

Join an introductory tour of Malta, see the varied landscapes and some of the island’s villages by coach, pausing for short photo stops along the way.
Leaving Valletta by coach you will travel towards the Blue Grotto on route to Ghar Lapsi, a seaside spot known for its clear waters and rugged coastline. Your tour continues to the Dingli Cliffs where you can enjoy a short stop and capture the view over the Mediterranean Sea.
Back on the coach, head north through rural and agricultural landscapes, passing Malta’s Old Capital, Mdina and the town of Mgarr. Continue north towards St Paul’s Bay, where you have another short photo stop. Then, start to make the return journey to Valletta, with a comfort stop on route, before arriving at your ship.

Please note: This is primarily a coach-based excursion with three short photo stops where walking is at your discretion. There is up to 100 yards of essential walking at the comfort stop. This tour may operate in a different order and some photo stops may be changed for your enjoyment. The comfort stop is approximately two hours into the excursion.
Explore Marsaxlokk On Your Own – Included Excursion Option 2

Explore the fishing village of Marsaxlokk at your own pace on this excursion of independent exploration.
After a 30-minute drive you will be dropped off in Marsaxlokk, where you will have one-and-a-half hours to explore at your leisure. During your free time you may like to take a stroll along the picturesque bay where colourful fishing boats bob in the water or just relax and with a coffee in one of the cafes.
After your free time here, return to your coach for the drive back to Valletta.

Please note: This is an excursion of independent exploration. You will have approximately one and a half hours of free time. The coach parking is approximately 550 yards each way from the nearest amenities, any further walking is at your discretion. To make the most of your visit to Marsaxlokk we recommend walking along the seafront – the distance along the seafront is approximately 750 yards. It is your responsibility to be at the drop-off point for the return drive at the given time. A guide will join you on the coach, but this tour does not include a guided visit of Marsaxlokk. Maps of Marsaxlokk will be provided. We advise you to bring some euros should you wish to make a purchase.
Valletta On Foot – Included Excursion Option 3

Take an introductory walking tour of Valletta.
Departing from the pier, you will head straight to the twenty-storey-high Barrakka Lift. Although rebuilt in 2012, the lift sits on the same site as the original, which operated between 1905 and 1973. Ride the lift 58 metres to the Upper Barrakka Gardens, the highest point of the 16th-century bastion walls that the Knights of St John built to protect the city. Here you can enjoy a view of the Three Cities and the Grand Harbour.
Your walking tour will then take you into the centre of Valletta where your guide will bring to life the history of Malta’s charming capital. Take the opportunity to admire the Mannerist exterior of St John’s Co-Cathedral, which dates back to 1573, before passing the Grand Master’s Palace and President’s Office.
At the end of the tour, your guide will take you back to the ship by taking the lift down to the port.

Please note: This tour is entirely on foot and involves walking approximately one-and-a-quarter miles. Flat walking shoes are recommended. The Barrakka Lift is for public use, there may be a queue. No entrances are included, exterior views only.
Areopolis Village – Included Excursion Option 1

Visit Areopoli, with its traditional tower houses and narrow cobbled streets. Departing the pier, head west across the Peloponnese’s Mani Peninsula to Areopolis. Nestled in the foothills of the Saggias mountains, Areopoli is also known as “Mani’s heart of stone”. Taking pride of place in the town square is a statue of local chieftain Petrobey Mavromichalis, a leading figure in the Greek Revolution of 1821 and a member of a prominent local family long associated with the fight for Greek independence. The town’s churches, dating from the 17th to the 19th century, and adorned with stone reliefs, frescoes, and icons, are among the reasons Areopoli was granted conservation status in 1998.
On arrival, take a short orientation walk before time at leisure to explore at your own pace. Afterwards, rejoin the coach for the return drive to the ship.
Additional Information
Please note: Expect to walk 650 yards, with a few steps to negotiate. Further walking your during free time is at your discretion. To use the restrooms in cafes, a purchase is required. The drive to and from Areopolis will take approximately 45 minutes each way. Due to the visit being on Greek Easter Sunday, the village is expected to be busy.
Medieval Monemvasia – Included Excursion Option 2

Monemvasia, founded by the Byzantines in the sixth century, is a medieval tower town located on the south-eastern coast of the Peloponnese. Often referred to as “Gibraltar of the East”, the stone-built settlement is nestled at the edge of a big rock by the sea.
On arrival, start your exploration of the lower town by entering the one and only gate to the city. As you enter, see old stone-built houses, narrow lanes and a byzantine church. Stroll along the main pathway towards Elkomenos Square, where the Church of Elkomenos stands to the left, a former mosque – now a museum – lies to the right, and an old Turkish cannon sits at the centre of the square. Enjoy some time at leisure to explore at your own pace.
Afterwards, return to your ship.

Please note: Expect to walk up to three-quarters of a mile, any further walking during free time is at your discretion. The terrain will be uneven with cobblestones. Throughout the town there are very steep uphill and downhill sections and frequent steps to negotiate, therefore this excursion is not suitable for those with limited mobility. There are no scheduled restroom opportunities. To use the restrooms in cafes, a purchase is required. You will have approximately one hour of free time. The drive to and from Monemvasia will take approximately one-and-a-half hours each way.
Syros Island Snapshot – Included Excursion Option 1

See more of the island on this snapshot tour. Departing from the pier, head southwest towards the village of Finikas where you will pause for a photo stop. Next, continue to the fishing settlement of Poseidonia, also known as Dellagrazia. The village takes its main name from Poseidon, the ancient god of the sea, while its alternative name comes from the Catholic Church of St Maria della Grazia. Pause for your second short photo stop before continuing to one of the island's oldest summer resorts, Parakopi. Enjoy a guided walking tour through Ermoupoli. Join your guide and depart on foot from the pier to Ermoupoli. Walk through the marble-paved squares and admire the Apollo Theater, built in 1864 and inspired by Milan’s La Scala. Still hosting cultural events and festivals today, it highlights Syros’ long-standing role as a centre of the arts.
Continue past the Cathedral of St Nicholas the Rich, the island’s largest church, recognised by its blue dome and marble façade, and step inside to appreciate an interior that reflects the prosperity of 19th-century Ermoupoli. At the heart of Ermoupolis, stands the Town Hall designed by the renowned architect Ernst Ziller.
As you make your way back to the port, see the Monument of the Unknown Soldier.

The Mountainous Villages of Pelion – Included Excursion

On this tour you will visit the small villages of Portaria and Makrynitsa, nestled on the slopes of Mount Pelion.
In Greek mythology, Mount Pelion was believed to be the land where the ancient gods and heroes were entertained and the homeland of the centaurs. Departing from the pier, travel through Anakasia and Katochori before reaching the mountain village of Portaria, located on the western slopes of Pelion in the Magnesia region of Thessaly. During the Turkish occupation, Portaria was an important centre, renowned for its silk production, including handkerchiefs, sashes and silk thread.
On arrival, enjoy a short, guided orientation walk, followed by free time to explore at your leisure. Then rejoin your coach and continue to Makrynitsa, often referred to as the “Balcony of Mount Pelion” for its memorable views. After a brief guided orientation walk, enjoy free time to wander among the traditional houses or relax with a coffee in the central square.
Afterwards, rejoin the coach for the return journey to the ship.

Begin with a short transfer into the city, then set off on a guided stroll through its maze of narrow, winding streets. You may even catch a glimpse of Petros the Pelican, Mykonos’s official mascot and one of three successors to the original pelican first introduced to the island in 1954.

Mykonos is celebrated for its distinctive charm, with whitewashed houses, iconic churches topped with red or blue domes, traditional windmills, and bays and beaches lapped by clear waters. Begin your scenic drive heading south towards the beach of Agios Ioannis, before continuing past the shores of Kalafatis and Agia Anna, offering glimpses of the island’s varied coastline.
The journey then takes you inland to the heart of the island and the village of Ano Mera, one of Mykonos’s oldest and most traditional settlements. Here, enjoy time to explore the courtyard of the 16th-century Panagia Tourliani Monastery, known for its ornate bell tower, carved marble fountain and rich religious heritage.

Embark on a sightseeing drive through Athens before heading to the Plaka District for some time at leisure. Pause for a photo stop at the base of Acropolis Hill, in the Acropolis pedestrian zone, where you can enjoy views of the Acropolis and the Herodium Theatre. From here, you will walk to the Plaka district where you can enjoy some free time to explore independently.
The Plaka district is Athens' oldest and most historic neighbourhood, known for its labyrinthine streets lined with neoclassical buildings, shops and traditional tavernas. Perhaps wander through the lanes or settle down in a cafe.
Afterwards, return to the ship.

Depart from the pier along the ‘Cyclops Riviera’ – a stretch of coastline steeped in myth and legend. Then continue to the fishing village of Aci Trezza, famous for its dramatic sea stacks linked to the legend of the Cyclops.
The drive then returns to Catania for a short sightseeing tour, taking in highlights of its Baroque architecture and lively streets. Next, the coach will drop you off near Piazza del Duomo, the cathedral square, for some time at leisure. On arrival, take a short walk to Corso Umberto, the town’s lively main street, lined with historic buildings, boutique shops and cafes. Enjoy free time to explore at your own pace — perhaps admire the panoramic view from the Belvedere di Taormina, browse the shops, or relax with a coffee while soaking up the town’s unique ambience before returning to the coach.

Begin by driving along the western coast through La Herradura, a quaint town known for its horseshoe shaped bay. To the east, Punta de la Mona features a rocky promontory adorned with luxury villas. Further along the coastline is Marina del Este, a bustling port known for its water sports scene and picturesque coves dotted with sailboats.
Next, head to Almuñécar. Founded by the Phoenicians in the eighth century BC, Almuñécar thrived during the Roman times. Its current name, however originated from its long Moorish occupation. Here you will have approximately 45 minutes of free time before heading back to Motril.

Fortress Gibraltar and the World War Two Tunnels

Begin by travelling past the British/Spanish Land Frontier. Your first stop is Europa Point, site of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Britain, where you can savour dramatic views of the Atlantic merging with the Mediterranean.
Next, you will be taken to the nature reserve, home of the Northern Defences Sector, where you may be able to catch a glimpse of Gibraltar’s most famous residents, the mischievous Barbary apes. At the World War Two Tunnels you can visit the areas that housed the hospital, power station, military headquarters and accommodation for nearly 10,000 troops and civilians.

Dolphin Watch

Gibraltar’s bay boasts three species of dolphin the Common Dolphin, Striped Dolphin and Bottle-nosed. After departing from your ship, take the short bus transfer to the ‘Dolphin Adventurer’ pleasure cruiser. Then, after setting off into the bay, learn about the history of this tiny colony, and you will be given an insight into the marine life of the bay from the crew.
After landing, return transport will be available back to the ship, or you can choose to walk into town for shopping and a little independent exploration before making your own way back to the ship.

Please note: This excursion involves approximately 300 yards of walking to reach the vessel and a couple of steps to board the boat unassisted. We recommend that you take some warm clothing for the boat ride. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. The boat ride will last approximately one-and-a-half hours. Panoramic Gibraltar and Gin Distillery
Take a drive around Gibraltar and visit a distillery to learn about the art of Gin distilling.
From the quayside, travel north towards Gibraltar’s unique airport runway to the border between this small British Overseas territory and Spain. Proceed along the outskirts of town, passing the American War Memorial and The Trafalgar Cemetery to arrive at Europa Point.
After a panoramic tour, you will be dropped off in front of the Bristol Hotel in Main Street, where you will be greeted by the Distillery Manager who will walk you to the venue. The tour begins with a brief history of the Art of Distilling, plus an insight into gin production before a comprehensive timeline of gin’s chequered past. Enjoy a gin tasting experience, before returning to the port.

Gibraltar Drive and Alameda Gardens

The tour begins with a scenic drive along the shoreline to Europa Point, home to the iconic Trinity Lighthouse. From here, take in sweeping views across the Strait of Gibraltar and capture photos of this historic landmark.
The next stop is the Alameda Gardens, established in 1816 by Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Don. Funded by voluntary contributions, the gardens were laid out with a network of interconnecting paths and terraced beds, built mainly from local limestone. Much of the original design remains intact today, while a collection of historic guns and commemorative busts highlights both the gardens age and Gibraltar’s rich military heritage.
Join your guide, who will point out various flora, sights and wildlife while describing the history of the gardens as you wander around the grounds. Afterwards, return to the ship.

Malta’s Mysterious Megaliths

Explore the mysteries of the ancient Tarxien Temples and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hagar Qim.
Travel by coach to Malta’s southern town of Tarxien to visit its famous temples. Discovered by farmers in 1913, the Tarxien Temples date back to 3150 BC and offer a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Malta’s prehistoric civilisation. The journey continues to the equally impressive Hagar Qim. These megalithic structures date back 6,000 years, predating the pyramids of Egypt and making them among the most ancient sacred sites on Earth.
Start your visit with a short audio-visual presentation in the visitor centre. Then proceed to the Hagar Qim Temples. The purpose of these mysterious structures is the subject of much debate. With a guide you will proceed to view the Mnajdra Temples in the distance – perhaps the best preserved and most evocative of Malta’s prehistoric sites.
Your tour continues with a scenic drive along the scenic Dingli Cliffs, offering a panoramic view of Malta’s rugged coastline. The journey includes a stop at Ghar Lapsi, where you can disembark, wander at your leisure, and capture photos of this serene coastal setting before making your way back to the ship.

Medieval Mdina and Mosta

Visit Malta's old capital Mdina before heading to Mosta to see the Mosta Dome.
Leave Valletta and travel inland to Mdina, known as the ‘Silent City’. Mdina is the former capital of Malta and one of the finest ancient walled cities in the world. Head off on foot through the city’s narrow streets to the bastions to take in the view. Visit the Baroque Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul, rebuilt at the end of the 17th century.
Next, travel to Mosta to admire the Mosta Dome, the fourth-largest unsupported dome in the world. During World War Two, a shell penetrated the dome but landed unexploded on the church floor.
Spend some time here and see a replica of the bomb, which is housed inside, before returning to the ship.

Malta’s Capitals - Old and New: Medina and Valletta

Follow the scenic route to Malta’s old capital, Mdina, which is one of Europe’s finest examples of a living medieval city. Stroll through the narrow streets and let your guide introduce you to its history. From the bastions, admire the view over the valley and the surrounding areas. Stroll past St Paul’s Cathedral, which was founded in the 12th century on the site where Roman governor Publius met St Paul.
Leaving Mdina, travel by coach back to Valletta, the present-day capital. Walk to St John’s Co-Cathedral and see the building from the outside, as well as the exterior of the Grand Master’s Palace. Continue past the Auberge de Castille, your last stop is at the Barrakka Gardens, set on the highest point of the 16th-century walls.

Gardens of Malta

Visit the different Maltese Gardens of San Anton and Upper Barakka and visit Zgamardi – a family run small holding.
Your tour starts with a short drive to St Anton Gardens, which surround San Anton Palace – the official residence of the President of Malta which date back to the 17th century, when each visitor would gift a new plant to the garden’s collection. Next, travel to Siggiewi to visit Zgamardi – a family run small holding to see the garden and the animals.
Pause at a refreshment venue for a soft drink before continuing to the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta, renowned for its history, scenery and surroundings. Located on the upper tier of St Peter and Paul Bastion, which was built in the 1560s. Here you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Grand Harbour and the surrounding landscape before a short drive to the port.

Harbour Cruise

Take a cruise through Marsamxett and the Grand Harbour.
Your tour starts with a short coach transfer to Sliema, where you will board your boat and set off to visit the ports of Marsamxett and the Grand Harbour. The views of the fortifications from the seaward side are unique and a treasure for photographers. The harbour mouth faces north-east and is bounded to the north by St Elmo’s Point and to the south by Ricasoli Point. It’s north-west shore is formed by the Scebarras Peninsula, which is largely occupied by the city of Valletta and its suburb Floriana. A detailed commentary will tell you the history of Valletta and the Three Cities of Birgu, Senglea and Cospicua, with particular emphasis on the two Great Sieges of 1565 and 1942.
Also hear about other places of interest including the historic forts, battlements and creeks that can only be admired from the sea. These include Fort St Angelo, which withstood the Turks during the Great Siege of Malta, and Fort Ricasoli, built by the Knights of Malta between 1670 and 1693. You will also see Manoel Island with its fort, in Marsamxett Harbour, as well as the city walls that surround Valletta.
Afterwards, a coach short transfer will take you back to Valletta.

Accompanied by the Site’s curator, you will uncover the fascinating story of this commanding fortress described as “the amphitheatre overlooking the Grand Harbour.” Control of Fort St Angelo once meant control of Malta, and its stones bear the marks of Carthaginians, Aragonese, the Knights of St John, and the British. The fort you see today is a result of centuries of adaptation and rebuilding by successive rulers, each leaving their mark.
As you explore, you will step through different eras, admiring restored sections and military features, while hearing about the fort’s transformation from a medieval stronghold to the seat of the Knights and a British naval base. Enjoy sweeping views of the harbour and take in the fort’s powerful atmosphere before your return to the ship by minivan.

Hilltop Monasteries of Meteora

Visit two hilltop monasteries on this scenic excursion.
Depart the pier and enjoy a scenic drive through the plains of Thessaly to Kalambaka. Marvel at the dramatic scenery of Meteora, where medieval monasteries appear to float in midair. In the 14th century, Greek Orthodox monks believed the summits of these towering rock formations, rising from the surrounding plains, offered the ideal setting for peaceful isolation. Over time, 24 monasteries were built atop the hills, creating a surreal landscape that blends natural wonder with human ingenuity. Prior to the construction of steps in the 1920s, ascending the summit was a perilous journey - visitors were hauled up in a net pulled by a rope.
Climb the steps to visit two monasteries and admire the sweeping vistas. Take in the ancient icons and frescoes on the walls, and the intricate mosaics and medieval manuscripts. Afterwards, stop at a local restaurant for lunch before the return journey to your ship.

There are a further eight steps to negotiate at the lunch venue. The Sacred Island of Delos

Visit the island of Delos which, according to Greek mythology, boasts a civilization dating back to the 3rd millennium BC and was the birthplace of Apollo, the god of light, and his sister Artemis, goddess of the moon.
First, you will embark a ferry for the 40-minute journey across to Delos Island. On arrival you will be met by a vast collection of ruins. Examine the Agora of the Competaliasts – one of the many markets that thrived during the Hellenistic Roman period – the Temple of the Delians, the Minoan Fountain – dating from the 6th century BC – the Terrace of the Lions and the Sanctuary of Dionysus. See the well-preserved houses, including the one belonging to a wealthy couple named Cleopatra and Dioscorides. Enter the old Roman quarter, where you can view ancient statues dedicated to Dionysus, the god of wine and celebrations.
Afterwards, board the ferry for the return journey to Mykonos Town and onto your ship.

Please note: You should expect to walk approximately one mile over uneven surfaces with inclines and prolonged periods of standing. There are six steps to negotiate at Dionysus Theatre. You will spend approximately two hours at Delos. The ferry transfer will take approximately 40 minutes each way. You will be required to embark and disembark the ferry independently. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility.
Mykonos Village and Vineyards
Visit the Panagia Tourliani Monastery in the village of Ano Mera before heading to Vioma Vineyard for wine tasting.
Mykonos Island is famous for its unique landscape: whitewashed churches crowned by blue or red domes, windmills, scenic bays and beaches washed with crystal-clear waters. Leaving the port, head south to begin the scenic drive of Mykonos Island, spotting the ancient island of Delos in the distance.
After making your way to the centre of the island, you will arrive at the village of Ano Mera, one of Mykonos’s oldest villages. Visit the 16th-century Panagia Tourliani Monastery, then reboard your tour vehicle and drive to the organic Vioma Vineyards. Following a welcome from the owner, Mr Asimomitis, you can learn all about his approach to winemaking, including the incorporation of classical music. Judge whether you can taste the difference for yourself by sampling a red, white and dessert wine whilst classical music plays in the background.
Following your experience of the sights, sounds and flavours of Greece, return to the port.

Please note: Expect to walk at least 300 yards, with prolonged periods of standing. There will be up to 15 steps to negotiate. You will spend approximately one hour at the Vioma Vineyard. Suitable clothing covering knees and shoulders must be worn at the monastery.
Ancient Corinth
Activity Level: Moderate Activity
Visit the archaeological site of Ancient Corinth.
Leave Piraeus and drive to the ancient town of Corinth, where St Paul lived and preached for two years. In Classical times, Corinth was a prosperous city, reflected in its ruins, including the expansive Agora (marketplace) and the Temple of Apollo. Excavations by the American School of Classical Studies, which began in 1896 and continue to this day, have uncovered temples, fountains, shops, porticoes, baths, and other monuments.
After a guided tour of the site’s highlights, the tour continues by coach to the Corinth Canal, where you will pause for a short photo stop at the old bridge before returning to your ship.

Please note: The archaeological site occupies a large area, and you should be prepared to walk at least half-a-mile over uneven ground with stony paths, loose soil and up to 20 steps in total. You will spend approximately two hours at the Archaeological site of Ancient Corinth. The journey to and from Corinth will take approximately one hour and 15 minutes each way. The tour is not suitable for those with limited mobility.
Athens Drive and the Acropolis
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
This excursion offers a sightseeing introduction to Athens followed by an up-close exploration of the Acropolis.
The Acropolis is known to be one of the most photographed and recognizable hills in all of Europe – perhaps even the world. On this rock in the 5th century BC Greece began its debate of great ideas, and founded concepts that would form the basis of modern democracy.
On arrival into the city, you begin with a scenic drive, past Constitution Square, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Olympic Stadium. It is then time to visit one of Athens’s most impressive sites. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, you walk up the uneven footpath leading to the Acropolis’s summit. While here, you will see the Propylaea one of the masterpieces of classical architecture that serves as the entrance to the buildings of the upper city, the Temple of Apteros Niki (Wingless Victory), the Erectheum with its classical stone-draped maidens, the Caryatids, and the architectural triumph of the Parthenon.
Afterwards, return to your ship in Piraeus.

Please note: Expect to walk approximately three-quarters of a mile, including steep inclines and 80 steps to negotiate. There will be long periods of standing and surfaces will be uneven, so you should take extra care. You must be physically fit to participate. The Acropolis site is very popular and can therefore get very busy. You will spend approximately one-and-a-half hours at the Acropolis.
Cape Sounion
Activity Level: Moderate Activity
Head to Cape Sounion to visit the Temple of Poseidon.
Visit this dramatic hill point, which has been an attraction to travellers throughout history. First follow the coastal road, passing Mediterranean residential areas and marinas en route to Cape Sounion, a hill crowned by the Temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea.
One of the most important archaeological sites in Attica, upon arrival at Sounion you will walk up a stone pathway leading up to the temple. It is estimated that this impressive structure was built around 440BC, although only 15 of the original 42 marble columns (‘cavocolones’) are still standing. One of the columns has the name ‘Byron’ carved into it, the graffiti is thought to have been left by English Romantic poet Lord Byron, who famously visited the site.
After exploring the temples, rejoin your coach and head back to the ship.

Please note: Please Note: You will be required to walk approximately 650 yards, some of which is uphill and uneven. There are also up to 20 steps to negotiate. The drive to and from Sounion will take approximately one-and-a-half hours each way. Warm layered clothing is essential, as it can get cold and windy at the site.
Athens, The Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
Take a drive through Athens before visiting two of city’s highlights, The Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum.
Athens is renowned as one of the greatest cities of the ancient world and the birthplace of western civilization. During this excursion you will enjoy a panoramic tour of the city, a visit to the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, as well as some time at leisure in Plaka. The tour begins with a drive through the marinas of Zea and Microlimano in the Piraeus area. Continue the drive through Athens to pass by some of the city’s important sites including Constitution Square, the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, the Temple of Zeus and the old Marble Stadium.
Next, visit one of Athens’s most impressive sites, The Acropolis. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, you walk up the uneven footpath leading to the summit of this iconic site. Following your visit to the Acropolis take a short walk to the Acropolis Museum, which is focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. The museum was built to house every artefact found on the rock and at its feet, covering a large period of time, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. Nearly 4,000 objects are exhibited over an area of 17,000 square yards.
Finally, you will enjoy some free time in Plaka to explore independently before returning with your guide to the port.

Mount Etna – Crateri Silvestri
Activity Level: Moderate Activity
Head to Mount Etna to visit the Crateri Silvestri.
Depart from the pier and head north for a one-hour drive to Mount Etna, Europe’s largest and most active volcano. The slopes rise dramatically to over 3,296 metres and are dotted with numerous cones and craters. Your coach will steadily ascend to an altitude of 1,950 metres above sea level, reaching the Silvestri Craters, formed during Etna’s eruption in 1892.
From here, enjoy sweeping 360-degree panoramic views across the volcanic landscape and out over the Gulf of Catania. You will have free time here to walk around the caldera's footpath before pausing for a refreshment. Afterwards, head back to Catania for a short sightseeing drive through the city as you make your way back to the ship.

Please note: Expect to walk approximately half a mile, with any further walking at your discretion. There is a steep incline to access Crateri Silvestri. The terrain will be uneven, with loose rocks and may be slippery. To walk around the crater there are steep slopes to negotiate. You must keep to the centre of the walking trail and stay away from the edge as there are no handrails or barriers. You will spend approximately one hour at the Crateri Silvestri area. The drive to and from Mount Etna will take approximately one-and-a-quarter hours each way. This tour climbs to altitudes of 2000 metres, please consider its suitability if you have any pre-existing medical conditions. Bring a jumper or jacket, as temperatures on Mount Etna can be cool and windy. The refreshment includes a tea or coffee and a snack (tart or cake). This excursion will not run if conditions on the day are not suitable.
San Michele Wine Tasting
Activity Level: Moderate Activity
Taste wine at the San Michele family-owned winery located on the flanks of Mount Etna.
Setting off from the port, enjoy a scenic drive to the San Michele Winery. The Etna region is characterised by its micro-climate, often cooler and greener than the rest of Sicily. The unique volcanic landscape of Mount Etna not only shapes the dramatic scenery but also influences the local agriculture. This volcanic soil, rich in potassium and mineral salts, enhances the distinctive taste of Etna wine.
The San Michele Winery’s cellars are situated in a traditional Etna-style building with the estate's 62 acres of vineyards in a single area, distributed across large terraces. The varieties of grapes cultivated here are those synonymous with the region: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Mantellato, Caricante and Cataratto. Enjoy a walk to the cellar for a tasting of the various San Michelle wines, accompanied by local products.
Afterwards, return to your ship in Catania.

There are up to 30 steps to negotiate at the wine cellar. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. The drive to and from San Michele will take approximately one-and-a-quarter hours. The wine tasting includes three wines from the estates own production accompanied by Sicilian snack.
Nerja & Caves
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
Discover the caves of Nerja and visit the sea town.
Leaving the port of Motril, travel along the busy coastal road to Nerja, a seaside town at the eastern end of the Costa del Sol. Although now a popular resort, it has retained its Moorish appearance, with picturesque streets of whitewashed houses.
Nerja is most famous for its prehistoric caves, about two miles from the town centre. The caves were discovered by a group of boys from the nearby village of Maro in 1959 and are now one of Andalusia’s most popular tourist attractions. Formed by underground rivers and natural calcification five million years ago, this three-mile cave system features dramatic stalactites and stalagmites. Explore the open sections as your guide shares its geological history.
After exploring the caves, continue to Nerja where you will begin a short walking tour. Stroll through its quaint streets lined with whitewashed buildings.
You will then have some time at leisure to explore. Perhaps head to the Balcón de Europa to take in the views before the return drive to your ship.
Additional Information
Please note: Expect to walk approximately three- and three-quarter miles on this excursion. There are approximately 450 steps to negotiate inside the caves. Inside the caves it will be dark; the ground will be uneven and may be wet and slippery. You will spend approximately one hour at the caves. The average temperature inside the cave is 19 degrees Celsius. The visit to Nerja will consist of a short, guided walk lasting approximately 20 minutes followed by approximately 30 minutes of free time, where any further walking is at your discretion. This tour is not suitable for those with limited mobility, or those who suffer from claustrophobia. It is forbidden to touch or alter the geological formations.
Granada On Your Own
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
Explore the city of Granada with time at leisure to explore independently.
Leave Motril behind and head inland to Granada, perched 2,100 feet above sea level at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. Once ruled by the Moors from the eighth century until 1492, Granada is packed with history and panoramic views.
On arrival you will have approximately four hours to explore this city on your own. Perhaps wander through the streets of the Albaicín, the historic Arab quarter offering views of Alhambra Palace at Plaza San Nicolas. Alternatively, explore the central areas of the city, where you will find the cathedral and the Royal Chapel.
After exploring Granda at your leisure, it is time to reboard the coach for the return drive to your ship in Motril.
Additional Information
Please note: This is a transfer to Granada and is unguided. An escort will accompany you on the coach journey only, but will not provide commentary. The drive from Motril to Granada will take approximately one-and-a-half hours each way and you will be dropped off and picked up at Paseo de la Bomba, located approximately three-quarters of a mile away from Plaza Nueva. Your visit to Granada is independent, and you will have approximately four hours of free time. The duration of free time can be impacted by traffic conditions. We recommend that you wear flat, walking shoes, as the streets in Granada, especially in the old part of the city, are mostly uneven with cobblestones.
Alhambra Palace and Gardens

Visit the UNESCO-listed Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens.
Leave Motril behind and head inland to Granada, perched 2,100 feet above sea level beneath the Sierra Nevada. Once ruled by the Moors from the eighth century until 1492, Granada’s crown jewel is the Alhambra palace, a maze of buildings, courtyards, and domes that showcase the peak of Moorish architecture. Hear the fairytale of 'A Thousand and One Nights', and admire the last capital of the Moors.
Inside the Alhambra, discover the Nazaries Palace with its stucco walls, intricate ceilings, and elaborate honeycomb vaulting. Whilst here you can wander through the courtyards, including the famed Patio de los Leones, where water flows from the mouths of twelve lions. Next, visit the Generalife, the Sultans’ summer retreat, complete with terraces, grottoes, and fountains that bring the beauty of the past to life.
Aftwerwards, rejoin your coach for the journey back to your ship.

You will spend approximately two-and-a-half hours at the Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens, the visit is entirely on foot, so there will be extended periods of standing. There are 200 steps at Alhambra and 60 steps at the Generalife gardens to negotiate without handrails. This tour is not suitable for those with limited mobility. The journey to and from Granada will take approximately one hour each way. This excursion must be booked prior to embarkation. Booking this excursion does not guarantee entry to the Alhambra Palace, this venue has strict guidelines that we must adhere to in order to purchase entrance tickets. You must therefore submit your passport information as soon as you book this tour; bookings not associated with a passport number are not accepted. As tickets for the Alhambra Palace need to be purchased in advance, this tour is non-refundable. For us to book the Alhambra tickets, your passport information must be on file at the time of purchase. Motril, Sugarcane and Rum

Discover Motril, visit the Preindustrial Sugarcane Museum and taste rum at Bodegas Ron Montero.
Start with a short transfer from the pier to Motril, where your walking tour begins at the Sanctuary Nuestra Senora de la Cabeza. Built on the ruins of a Moorish castle, this site was once the summer residence of Queen Aixa AlHorra. In the old town, see the Mayor de la Encarnación Church, dating back to 1510, before passing landmarks such as the Town Hall and the 19th-century Calderón de la Barca Theatre.
Next, visit the Preindustrial Sugarcane Museum, set on the ruins of a 16th-century sugar mill behind the ‘Casa de la Palma’. The museum showcases how sugarcane was produced and traded between the 13th and 18th centuries, offering a glimpse into Spain’s early sugar industry.
Next, visit Bodega Ron Montero, a family-run distillery founded in 1963 with deep roots in the sugarcane industry. Learn about its history and the rum-making process before sampling the run.
Afterwards, reboard the coach for your short return drive to the ship.

Fruits of Finca San Ramón & Almuñécar
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
Combine a visit to San Ramón – a Tropical fruit “finca” – with an exploration of Almuñécar.
Departing the pier, head towards La Herradura to San Ramón, where you can walk through the plantation and discover a variety of tropical fruits, including chirimoya, avocado, mango, star fruit, guava, and loquat, all thriving in the ideal climate. After a guided tour of the plantation with commentary on the fruit's characteristics, flavours, and recipes, you will taste some of the fruits for yourself.
Next, head to San Miguel Castle, an Arab fortress on Cerro de San Miguel overlooking Almuñécar. The castle, with origins in the Phoenician and Roman eras, mainly dates from the 13th-century Muslim period as a Nasrid retreat. Fortified in the 16th century by King Ferdinand, it was later damaged in the War of Independence but remained in use as a Christian cemetery until the mid-20th century.
Afterwards, take a guided stroll through the village of Almuñécar. Founded by the Phoenicians in the eighth century BC, Almuñécar thrived during the Roman times. Its current name, however originated from its long Moorish occupation. Explore its narrow streets before returning to your ship in Motril.

The fruits seen and tasted at the finca will depend on the season and may not be what is described in the description. You will spend approximately 50 minutes at the fruit farm, 30 minutes at San Miguel Castle and 30 minutes in Almuñécar.

Distance from ship to tour vehicles
Local port safety and security measures can result in significant additional walking being required between the ship’s gangway and tour vehicles. This distance depends upon the berth we are assigned on the day and is therefore not included in the excursion walking grade. Should you have any concerns please see the onboard Explore Ashore Team, who will be able to provide up-to-date information.
What are the walking grades?
To help you choose the most suitable excursions we've graded each according to the amount of walking involved.
- Panoramic Activity - A slower-paced excursion with the majority of sightseeing taking place from your vehicle. There may be a short walk at the port to join your vehicle and any other walking will be at your own discretion, for example at photo stops.
- Easy Activity - Up to approximately 500 yards on mainly flat terrain, with the possibility of some steps.
- Moderate Activity - Between 500 yards to one mile over mixed terrain, often with steps. Please refer to individual tour activity descriptions as these tours may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns.
- Strenuous Activity - Considerable walking distances over a mile, usually over uneven terrain with many steps. Generally these tours are aimed at able walkers and may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns.
