The outward journey on this all-inclusive cruise to the Canaries in 2027 includes a visit to the lively fishing port of Vigo on Spain’s Galician coast. Between the modern city centre and the coast, the historic quarter of Casco Vello has traditional granite buildings with glass balconies and an arcaded central square. Continuing the cruise south, arrive in Lanzarote where the coastal lagoon of its capital Arrecife is overlooked by traditional whitewashed cottages. Nearby, the crater-studded landscapes of Timanfaya National Park have been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, as has half of Gran Canaria. This Canary Island is fringed with beautiful coves and sandy beaches to the south and wild mountains to the north.
Island hop to Tenerife to contrast the black sand beaches and volcanic terrain of Teide National Park with the vast laurel forests of La Palma, the greenest of the Canaries. Its capital, Santa Cruz, features 16th-century Castilian architecture, cobbled lanes and an old quarter set around a Renaissance plaza. The return journey includes an overnight visit to Madeira, known for its laurel forests, vibrant floral displays and namesake wine. This is a perfact opportunity for stargazing activities in a region renowned for its clear night skies.

Vigo is a major fishing port, set in the wine-growing region of Rias Baixas on Spain’s Galician coast. This modern city has a historic quarter, Casco Vello, whose central square is the arcaded Plaza de la Constitución.

Named in Spanish after the reef that edges its shoreline, peaceful Arrecife has been the island’s capital since it took the title from nearby Teguise in 1852. This relatively sleepy port’s origins can be seen in the whitewashed fishermen cottages and 17th-century church set around the coastal lagoon of El Charco de San Gines. From Arrecife, you can discover the vast lava fields and crater-studded landscapes of Timanfaya National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The subtropical capital of Las Palmas is set beside two broad bays and features cafe-lined squares and courtyards overflowing with exotic fruits, flowers and palms. The oldest sights can be seen in a trio of historic neighbourhoods: San Antonio, Triana and Vegueta. Tenerife is crowned by the World Heritage Site, Mount Teide. Its capital Santa Cruz has a mix of old and new sights, from the central square of Plaza de Espana, which was built in 1929 to the auditorium, an expressionist structure that resembles a wave.

La Palma is the greenest of the Canaries and large tracts of its laurel forests have been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The capital, Santa Cruz, is set in a sweeping natural amphitheatre and was a hub for New World explorers and merchant traders during the Age of Exploration. Its history is reflected in the 16th-century Castilian architecture and the old quarter with its wooden balconies and cobbled lanes is set around the Renaissance Plaza Espana.
