Spirit of Adventure blog

Grenada

23rd December, 2021

The Island of Grenada and the Port of St. Georges is the only port I haven’t been to before on this cruise. Both an inaugural call for me and for Spirit of Adventure. We picked up our pilot, made our approach, swung and backed down the pier.

Grenada is the only port where we couldn’t go independently ashore, only organised tours were allowed. Guests and crew have been allowed to take a walk along the pier and into the Terminal building that offered a number of small shops selling all kinds of souvenirs and spices. I wanted to check it out, but only after the plaque exchange was conducted.

Our visit was popular enough to have the Minister for Tourism come to greet us, accompanied by TV cameras. Her welcoming speech and my gratitude on accepting us was all recorded, so I will have to find it on Youtube. She explained that independent shore leave was denied due to low number on vaccinations on the island and they didn’t want to jeopardise us. After the exchange, I went for a stroll in the Terminal and bought various spices, sauces and sweets.

Kind Regards
Captain Franko Papić
