Welcoming our brand new ship

30th September, 2020

September 30 was a truly momentous day for us all at Saga Cruises, as we took delivery of our second boutique cruise ship, Spirit of Adventure. Nigel Blanks, Managing Director and David Pickett, New Build Director formally accepted delivery of our beautiful brand new ship at the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Germany.

Nigel Blanks enthused:

"This is a really exciting day for us as Spirit of Adventure officially becomes part of the Saga Cruises family. Over the past 18 months, we have been focused on creating a British boutique cruising experience for our guests that is not available elsewhere on the market and Spirit of Adventure is an important milestone in this plan.
While she shares some similarities with her sister ship, Spirit of Discovery, Spirit of Adventure is unique in her own right with distinctive design features and characteristics.
Though the inaugural cruise will take place a little later than we had originally planned due to the ongoing restrictions on travel, we cannot wait to welcome guests onboard and see all she has to offer.

Captain Kim Tanner was also present at the handover, and we’re delighted to announce that he will be at the helm for Spirit of Adventure’s Inaugural Cruise. He said:

Perhaps the proudest moment of my career is to be Captain of this beautiful new ship during her final new build and delivery period to Saga. The have achieved a very significant portion of the build process, whilst enduring enormous challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, a testament to the outstanding performance of our teams at Meyer Werft shipyard and Saga Cruises.
