Once in your lifetime…
In this instalment we explore the varied wildlife in Costa Rica.
Encounter Costa Rica’s wildlife
Costa Rica is a tropical paradise whose rainforests throng with some of the most colourful wild and birdlife on earth. It’s the ultimate destination for anyone who loves nature, adventure, wildlife and the outdoors.
There are so many life-enhancing experiences to be had here. Take a river safari in search of iguanas, crocodiles, kingfishers and sloths. Or go on a guided hike through the rainforest, looking out for flycatchers, parakeets and rare green macaws.
Costa Rica’s birdlife is extraordinary. From the technicolour toucan to the raucous scarlet macaw, you could spend your entire holiday scanning the rainforest canopy for species including quetzal and the ubiquitous hummingbird.
Another impressive sight is Arenal volcano, whose perfect cone peak rises majestically above the rainforest. Hike its lava trails to see how volcanic activity has changed the landscape, take a dip in its hot springs or walk on bridges and walkways high in the canopy for close up encounters with animal and birdlife.
Feeling adventurous? Take the Pacific Rainforest Ariel Tram over Carara National Park, or go zip wiring over Arenal’s treetops. For pure excitement, exhilaration and spectacular views, it doesn’t get much better than this.
