Why is Cornwall such a popular holiday destination?
When you think of Cornwall, you imagine rugged coastlines, nature reserves, and weather that will leave you sun-kissed and relaxed - and rightly so. At Saga, we offer holidays to this destination and work hard to show you all the amazing sights. Check out our top three reasons to visit Cornwall.
1. The Cornish Coast will take your breath away
Rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and clear seas are what makes the Cornish coast so special. When you take a long beach walk, you can expect to find hidden coves and caves just waiting for you to explore! If you head to St Ives, you can also look forward to taking a peak in the Tate to see some of the most amazing modern art and then strolling around the Victorian streets for a spot of shopping or something delicious to eat.
From watching the surfers at St Ives and Bude to checking out the golf course at Perranporth, there really is something for everyone. Also, the history of Cornwall's famous beaches is shown in local museums and galleries that will tell you all about the adventures that many people throughout history have enjoyed.
2. Explore the Eden Project
The Eden Project offers all the information you need and allows you to see some of the world’s most important plants and species under its range of biomes that protrude from the landscape.
The Eden Project is also fascinating from an engineering perspective and won an ICE Merit Award for civil engineering the year after it was built. A trip to this place will renew your love of nature and leave you with a desire to protect it.
3. Learn more about Cornish history and local traditions
Cornwall has many links to the Arthurian Legends and enjoys a mystic history from the times of the druids, Saxons, and Romans. It also has an interesting history of smugglers and pirates!
What’s interesting about Cornwall is the fact that it’s part of the UK, but retains its distinctive, independent identity.
There are many amazing museums and sights to be seen, with famous landmarks such as Land's End - a popular choice with tourists. One thing is certain, if you love history, then Cornwall is the place to go!
