Begin by exploring the Swiss city of Basel on an included tour. Then cruise into the Rhine Valley to visit Breisach, gateway to the Black Forest. From Kehl an included excursion reveals the medieval architecture and Gothic cathedral of Strasbourg.
Continue to Speyer for the opportunity to join an included tour of Heidelberg and its castle. At the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers, you’ll discover the scenic town of Koblenz. Follow the Moselle River to Cochem, ‘capital’ of the wine region, and enjoy the peaceful riverside settings of Traben-Trarbach and Bernkastel-Kues. From Schweich an included excursion reveals the Roman heritage of Trier.

Amadeus Elegant
Travel to Basel and embark Amadeus Elegant.

Basel is located at the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France. The oldest part of the city is located near the banks of the Rhine river, and is where you’ll find the cathedral.
Other places of interest are the 16th-century Market Square and the late medieval Town Hall. Look forward to an included tour of the city.
Arrive 0800. Depart 2300.
Take our complimentary shuttle service into Breisach, an important medieval town of the Holy Roman Empire during the 16th century. It's overlooked by a 12th-century cathedral – St Stephansmünster – set high on a hilltop above. Breisach also offers a 'gateway to the Black Forest' and the Alsace.

Kehl is located on the banks of the Rhine river, directly opposite the French city of Strasbourg. The elegant capital of Alsace, Strasbourg, features cobbled streets, medieval architecture and a Gothic cathedral with an astronomical clock.
See some of the highlights of the old quarter on an included excursion and cruise along the city’s scenic canals this morning. You may choose to spend further time exploring Strasbourg independently after your tour before taking our complimentary shuttle service back to Kehl later in the afternoon.

The Imperial City of Speyer is dominated by the UNESCO-listed Speyer Cathedral, built in the 11th century and a fine example of Romanesque architecture.
This morning an included excursion visits the home of Germany's oldest university, the city of Heidelberg. Highlights include the Old Bridge across the River Neckar and the ruined castle high above the city. Its unusual appearance is due to it having been added to through different periods of German architectural styles.

Koblenz, meaning 'merging of the rivers', is situated on the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. At the exact point where the two rivers meet, the Deutsches Eck, there is a monument with a huge equestrian statue of Emperor Wilhelm I. Above the town sits the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, a citadel built by the Prussians between 1816 and 1832.

Arrive Cochem, Arrive 1400.
This small town enjoys a scenic setting beside the Moselle river. Perched high above the town and crowning a hill cloaked entirely in vines stands the neo-Gothic Reichsburg Castle, and although most of the castle was rebuilt in the 19th century, the original 11th-century keep still survives.
The town’s other historic architectural gems include a baroque Town Hall backed by a maze of streets and a quaint market square.

Arrive Traben-Trarbach, 1400.
This twin town straddles the Moselle and is known as the 'capital' of the wine region. It is home to many art nouveau buildings, underground cellar vaults and an elaborate bridge gate designed by Berlin art nouveau architect Bruno Möhring.

Arrive Bernkastel-Kues, 0900. Depart 1700.
Arrive Schweich, 2200.
The small town of Bernkastel-Kues has a historic market square lined by medieval houses and adorned with a 17th-century fountain.
Among the vines above the town stand the ruins of Landshut Castle, the one-time seat of the Bishops of Trier.
From Schweich an included excursion visits ancient Trier, founded by the Emperor Augustus in 16BC. Many relics of Trier's ancient past survive to this day, including Porta Nigra, a well-preserved Roman city gate. You can return to Trier to explore further independently this afternoon using our complimentary shuttle service.
