Day 1 UK to Frankfurt

Fly to Frankfurt and transfer to your ship, Spirit of the Rhine. Enjoy dinner on board.

Cruise overnight towards Aschaffenburg.

Day 2 Aschaffenburg 🎧

Old town of Aschaffenburg

Arrive in the early hours and spend the morning in the city known as 'Bavarian Nice' thanks to its sunny climate and lively cultural scene. Enjoy an included walking tour of the city where you can see the Rennaisance Schloss Johannisburg dating back to the 17th century.

Take a stroll through the artisan quarter with its typical Bavarian style half-timbered buildings before setting sail at lunch and cruising on through the afternoon and evening before mooring in Mainz, in the early hours.

Day 3 Mainz

Historic Mainz, Germany

Spend the morning in Mainz where you can join an optional walking tour of city or visit Heidelburg and its Renaissance castle on another optional excursion.

Mainz, the capital of Rheinland-Pfalz, has a large Romanesque red sandstone cathedral, which retains its cloisters. Behind the cathedral in Gutenbergplatz square is a statue of Johannes Gutenberg, the father of modern printing.

Depart after lunch and spend the afternoon and evening cruising towards Strasbourg.

Day 4 Kehl (for Strasbourg) 🎧

Arrive in Kehl late morning and this afternoon explore Strasbourg, the beautiful capital of Alsace, whose cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and Gothic cathedral can be seen on an included tour and canal cruise.

Depart this evening and cruise overnight to Rüdesheim.

Day 5 Rüdesheim to Boppard 🎧

Rudesheim am Rhein, Germany

Arrive in the charming wine town of Rüdesheim for a morning exploring. Perhaps join a fascinating optional excursion to Siegfried’s Museum of Mechanical Music.

Set sail to Boppard, a classic Rhineland wine town, where the waterfront is overlooked by wooded gorges and vineyards, arriving mid-afternoon. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has extensive Roman remains, medieval fortifications and half-timbered buildings.

You remain moored here overnight.

Day 6 Boppard to Andernach 🎧

Andernach, Germany

Leave Boppard early morning and cruise through breakfast to spend the rest of the morning in Andernach, where you may like to join an optional walking tour.

During lunch you set off and spend the rest of the day and night cruising towards Amsterdam.

Day 7 Amsterdam 🎧

Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

Arrive in Amsterdam late morning, and after lunch you can join an included tour of Amsterdam by coach and canal or culinary walking tour and see the Royal Palace on Dam Square, the floating flower market, the Central Railway Station, which is built on thousands of wooden piles, and the 19th-century Rijksmuseum.

Afterwards, cruise the canals to the city centre with its historic bridges and gabled houses and view the famous Skinny Bridge, the Montelbaanstoren tower and the Jewish Quarter.

Moor here overnight.

Day 8 Amsterdam to UK

Disembark Spirit of the Rhine after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your return journey to the UK.

Mainz city walk

On this guided tour you’ll visit the old centre of Mainz with its medieval cathedral, the Electoral Palace, patrician town houses, cobblestone streets and beautiful squares which reflect the fascinating history of the city. View modern landmark buildings including the City Hall built in 1971, the Rheingoldhalle conference centre and Fort Malakoff.

As you walk through this ancient city you'll uncover 2000 years of history, cultural life and Golden Ages.

Heidelberg and its castle

Enjoy a tour of Heidelberg's Renaissance castle and learn about it's history. Explore the town’s cobbled streets and view the exterior of Germany’s oldest University. The 'Old Bridge', a focal point of the city, provides views of Heidelberg and the old town. Enjoy a ride on the Heidelberg Bergbahnen, a funicular railway, to the town's highest peak. This is known as 'the king's seat', with views of the town, river and countryside.

Siegfried's Museum of Mechanical Music

In this whimsical museum you’ll find a fantastical, nostalgic and joyous cacophony of 350 self-playing instruments including music boxes, barrel organs, hand-cranked carnival machines and early jukeboxes-all in full working order. The highlights include the ‘Puppet Orchestrion’, a huge cabinet containing puppet musicians from 1888 and the later ‘Phonoliszt Violina’, a blend of piano and violins that play in perfect harmony.

Boppard wine tasting

The cobbled streets of Boppard are home to extensive Roman remains, medieval fortifications and half-timbered buildings. Your wine tasting experience takes place in one of Boppard’s historic towers, which has been converted into a winery – a word of warning, there are nearly 40 steps to climb to the tasting room. Sample four wines and a liqueur that will be introduced by your host. If you wish, you will be able to purchase some of the wine to take home with you.

Andernach Geyser

This natural phenomenon is the world’s highest cold-water geyser with water shooting upwards around 60 metres in height. At the Discovery Centre, learn about this geological wonder, and what happens 4,000 metres below the earth’s surface to drive and power this natural fountain. A boat will take you to the Namedyer Werth peninsula, to witness the geyser and taste the water for yourself. Enjoy some free time to explore the wonders and natural beauty that Andernach has to offer.

2 – Minimal walking. Up to approximately 1,640 feet (500 metres) on mainly flat terrain.
3 – Moderate walking. Between 1,640-4,920 feet (500-1500 metres) over mixed terrain with the possibility of some steps.
4 – Considerable walking. More than 4,920 feet (1500 metres) over uneven terrain with many steps.
5 – Strenuous walking. Long distances over rough terrain with climbing, steps and trekking.
