Sail the scenic waterways of Holland and visit interesting and iconic cities, all set to the soundtrack of classic 60s music. Enjoy live performances on board Rex Rheni on all five nights of your cruise, which begins in Amsterdam and continues to Arnhem, where you can explore the history of the infamous WWII Operation Market Garden on an optional excursion during your two nights moored there.

Cruise to historic Utrecht where you may choose to join another optional guided tour then continue to Hoorn, where you can explore the once prominent trading town and Westfries Museum on an optional excursion. Your final port of call is the iconic Dutch capital city, Amsterdam, where you have 24 hours in which to explore, perhaps on an optional city tour and canal cruise – a fitting way to round off your musical holiday in style.

Day 1 UK to Amsterdam

Your musical adventure starts as you travel by coach via Eurotunnel or ferry to Amsterdam.

Embark Rex Rheni and look forward to a welcome dinner on board tonight. You can also enjoy a live performance from Band of Gold to get your musical holiday off to an exuberant start.

Day 2 Arnhem 🎧

Arrive in Arnhem this afternoon and perhaps join an optional tour to see famous sights associated with Operation Market Garden, a battle fought in 1944 and the subject of the epic war film A Bridge too Far.

Remain moored in Arnhem overnight and look forward to your second live on-board performance.

Day 3 Arnhem to Utrecht 🎧

Your cruise begins before breakfast this morning and you will sail through the morning to arrive in Utrecht at lunchtime.

This afternoon perhaps take an independent stroll through the medieval heart of the city with its 112-metre high Domtoren tower or visit one of the city’s museums, alternatively you might prefer to join an optional two-hour guided walking tour of the city.

Remain moored here overnight with your third live set to entertain you on board this evening.

Day 4 Utrecht to Hoorn 🎧

Bid Utrecht farewell over breakfast and sail on to reach Hoorn around lunchtime.

You'll then have the afternoon in Hoorn to see the 16th and 17th-century town houses – the Dutch East India Company made it a wealthy trading town. Perhaps join an optional walking tour which also visits the interesting Westfries Museum. Moor overnight in Hoorn and you’ll need your dancing shoes once more as your fourth live music set takes place.

Day 5 Hoorn to Amsterdam 🎧

Sail on before breakfast and arrive in Amsterdam with plenty of time left this morning for exploration, either independently or by joining an optional city tour which features a canal cruise. The remainder of your day is yours to explore the iconic capital at your leisure or you may choose to join an optional excursion to Volendam, Edam and the Katwoude cheese farm.

The final night of your holiday is spent moored in Amsterdam, where you can enjoy a rousing musical finale on board this evening.

Day 6 Amsterdam to UK

Disembark your ship after breakfast and begin your return journey to the UK.

Arnhem Commemoration

Visit the site of the momentous events of Operation Market Garden, beginning at the famous 'Bridge Too Far.' It was here that the 2nd Battalion, led by Lieutenant Colonel Frost, held out for four days in September 1944 against overwhelming odds. At the north end, you'll see a monument in honour of those who participated, many of whom lost their lives. Continue to the old church in Oosterbeek, where the Allies sheltered prior to withdrawing, passing some of the fields where the landings took place. At the Airborne Museum, you can see photographs and memorabilia along with anti-tank guns and a Sherman tank which stand where they were left in battle. You return to Arnhem via the Airborne Cemetery, the final resting place of 1,748 Allied troops.

Hoorn Walking Tour

Enjoy a guided walk around the attractive harbour town of Hoorn, once home to many an  adventurous mariner – including Abel Tasman and J P Coen, founders of the Dutch East India Company. As a result of its early seafaring wealth, Hoorn boasts many pretty historic buildings. Notably the State Council building, which houses the Westfries Museum and its fascinating collection of ceramic tiles, silver, china and model ships. Across the way you’ll find the charming Weigh House and beyond that a wealth of winding streets to explore. Perhaps spend some time in the market square or savour the views from the yachting harbour before returning to your ship.

Amsterdam City & Canals

This cosmopolitan capital delights visitors with its pretty tree-lined canals – criss-crossed by over a thousand bridges – exquisite architecture and world-class art collections. Enjoy a canal cruise to view such treasures as the famous Skinny Bridge, the Montelbaanstoren tower and the Jewish Quarter. Highlights are subject to change. Walking Grade 3

Volendam, Edam & Katwoude Cheese Farm

This excursion takes you to a beautiful cheese-making farmhouse in Katwoude. Here, you’ll enjoy a demonstration of the craft, and taste various cheeses. Head next to Edam, one of the Netherland’s best-preserved towns, notably famous for its red-waxed cheese.

Enjoy a walking tour through the pretty streets and visit the famous Edam cheese weigh house. The final stop is in the nearby, picturesque village of Volendam, which lies on reclaimed land along the former Zuiderzee.

Virtuoso Jeremy Huggett, a recent UK award winner for best reed player, clearly demonstrates his skill and maturity on saxophones, flute, and vocals. Since December 2000, Jeremy has been guesting on sax and flute with legendary rock group, Hawkwind. He’s also played with famous names all over the country, including Acker Bilk

Band of Gold

Band of Gold was formed in 1997 and, led by Jeremy Huggett, is guaranteed to entertain and get the on-board party going. Band of Gold is extremely versatile and for this holiday, Jeremy has put together a line-up focusing on rock & roll and the sounds of the 50s and 60s. The band will have a five piece line-up consisting of saxes/vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. Although based in Devon, Band of Gold travel across the UK and abroad.
