An optional excursion venture into the imposing Ehrenbreitstein Fortress overlooking the town of Koblenz and after cruising to Bonn, another allows you to explore the former home of Beethoven. Sail on to Arnhem where you can learn more about one of the most famous battles of World War II on an included excursion. Day 1 UK to Düsseldorf
Travel to Düsseldorf and embark Spirit of the Rhine, which remains moored here overnight.
Enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board.
Day 2 Düsseldorf
Look forward to spending a full day in delightful Düsseldorf where you can enjoy an included tour of the famous Old Town – a square kilometre full of churches, art and more than 250 pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes in the heart of the city.
Join an expert guide on a stroll through the picturesque backstreets and discover why the Gothic St. Lambertus church has a twisted tower. The Burgplatz (square) with the Schlossturm (palace tower) holds great char and from here, it's a stone's throw to the Rhine embankment promenade which offers a stunning view of Düsseldorf's skyline and the Oberkassel Rhine banks.

Day 3 Rüdesheim
Cruise through the morning, arriving in the charming wine town of Rüdesheim at lunchtime.
This afternoon is at leisure – perhaps take an interactive map to embark on a self-guided tour. Later you might wish to join an optional trip to either the eccentric attraction of Siegfried's Museum of Mechanical Music or alternatively a wine tasting excursion.
Your ship remains moored here overnight.
Day 4 Rüdesheim to Koblenz 🎧
This morning relax on board during one of the highlights of your voyage as Spirit of the Rhine cruises through the UNESCO-listed Middle Rhine to Koblenz.
Glide through a valley of steep banks cloaked in lush green forest and punctuated by the occasional fairytale castle. You’ll pass the fabled Lorelei Rock, where legend has it a beautiful siren used to coax sailors to their demise – keep an eye out for her bronze statue as you sail safely by. Spend the afternoon in Koblenz, the town where the rivers Rhine and Moselle meet and continue their journey to the North Sea.
The confluence is marked by a monument to Emperor Wilhelm I, and across the river from here is the vast Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which you can visit by cable car on an optional excursion as your ship remains moored here overnight.
Day 5 Koblenz to Bonn 🎧
Set sail over breakfast and cruise through the morning to reach Bonn at lunchtime.
An optional walking tour this afternoon reveals sights such as the Electoral Palace and the baroque City Hall, and includes entrance to Beethoven's former home, now a museum dedicated to his life and work.
Remain moored here overnight.
Day 6 Bonn to Arnhem
Set sail early this morning and cruise into the Netherlands to enjoy the afternoon in Arnhem where you can join an included tour to learn more about the bloody battle that was fought here during World War II.
Visit the site of the momentous events of Operation Market Garden, beginning at the famous ‘Bridge Too Far’. It was here that the 2nd Battalion, led by Lieutenant Colonel Frost, held out for four days in September 1944 against overwhelming odds. At the north end, you’ll see a monument which honours those who participated in the mission, many of whom lost their lives. Continue to the old church in Oosterbeek, where the Allies took refuge prior to withdrawing, passing some of the fields where the landings took place. At the Airborne Museum, you can see photographs and memorabilia, along with anti-tank guns and a Sherman tank which stand exactly where they were left in battle. You return to Arnhem via the Airborne Cemetery, the final resting place of 1,748 Allied troops.
Remain moored here until late tonight.
Day 7 Amsterdam 🎧
At breakfast time cruise into the Dutch capital, rightly popular for its friendly welcome, picturesque canals, world-class museums and galleries and laid-back cafes and bars.
This morning you can join one of our Unique Experiences which are designed to give you the chance to get under the skin of a destination by enjoying the local food and culture. After disembarking your ship and meeting your guide, take a tram to Central Station from where you will begin a walking tour of the Dutch capital. Along the way look forward to tasting local delicacies including herring, cheese and croquettes and rounding it off with a sweet treat from a bakery.
Alternatively you could join an included tour of Amsterdam by coach and see the Royal Palace on Dam Square, the floating flower market, the Central Railway Station, which is built on thousands of wooden piles, and the grand 19th-century Rijksmuseum. Afterwards, enjoy a canal cruise to see the city centre with its pretty bridges and attractive gabled houses up close and view such treasures as the famous Skinny Bridge, the Montelbaanstoren tower and the Jewish Quarter.

Day 8 Amsterdam to UK
Disembark Spirit of the Rhine after breakfast to begin your return journey to the UK.
Bonn: Birthplace of Beethoven
The 2000 year - old historic site is the centre of Bonn. It will delight and astound visitors. This tour will encompass some of the spectacular highlights of this town, visiting such places as, Beethoven monument, the Romanesque Minster Cathedral, the University of Bonn, which was formerly the Elector’s Palace – with its elegant Hofgarten and the grand baroque City Hall. The tour takes you to the banks of the Rhine near the Bonn Opera House to see the imposing view of Germany‘s oldest nature park, Siebengebirge and seven hills. Naturally you’ll visit Beethoven’s birthplace, which includes a museum, archives and chamber music hall where you can learn more about the life and work of this great composer.

Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress
Immortalised by Byron and Herman Melville, lofty fortifications have glowered over Koblenz since 1,000AD and changed faces over the centuries. The Prussians constructed Festung Ehrenbreitstein in the early 19th century, when Rhineland became a Prussian province. Despite being Europe’s second largest fortress, after Gibraltar, it played no part in either WWI or WWII. Enjoy a panoramic cable car ride from Koblenz up to the fortress, the views are astounding and you’ll learn about the history of the site. There will be a guided walk around the historic city of Koblenz, and you can admire the elegant architecture.

Rüdesheim Wine Tasting
Board a tourist train and travel into the centre of Rudesheim to Weingut Adolf Storzel. Located just a few steps from the famous Drosselgasse, this family owned winery dates back to the 16th century. Your knowledgeable host will introduce you to 3 different white wines from the winery. A pretzel is served alongside to neutralise the taste of the different wines. After the wine tasting you will have the possibility to taste and purchase other white and red wines and different liquors and brandies. A small glass decorated with the coat of arms of the family is yours to take away as a souvenir. Afterwards, the tourist train will take you back to your ship, unless you decide to stroll back at your leisure; perhaps via the Drosselgasse!

Siegfried's Museum of Mechanical Music
Siegfried Wendel’s eccentric collection of 350 self-playing instruments is a veritable treat for eyes and ears. In this whimsical museum you’ll find a fantastical, nostalgic and joyous cacophony of beautiful music boxes, barrel organs, hand-cranked carnival machines and early jukeboxes, all in full working order. High points include the ‘Puppet Orchestrion’, a huge cabinet containing puppet musicians (1888) and the later ‘Phonoliszt Violina’ a blend of piano and violins that plays in perfect harmony.
