Saga began in 1951 in a town on the Kent coast, creating holidays for retirees. We grew to become one of the UK’s most trusted lifestyle brands for people over 50, known for our high-quality products and exceptional standards of service.
Ocean cruising experts since 1997
In 1997 we launched our very own cruise line, exclusively for the over 50s. Our first ship was the much-loved Saga Rose.
Now, with almost 30 years’ experience of operating cruise ships, combined with valued feedback from our guests, it was clear the next step would be to build our own.
Launched in 2019 and 2021, our state-of-the-art purpose-built sister ships, Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure, are modern and contemporary, yet retain the hallmarks of classic cruise ships including a full wraparound promenade deck and single-sitting dining in a variety of restaurants.
These sister ships provide the best of boutique cruising, with high levels of personal service from our dedicated crew, and truly all-inclusive value.
Three decades of river cruising expertise
In the 1990s we also began exploring some of Europe’s most famous rivers, originally using a variety of different sized ships to give our guests a choice of itineraries.
After three decades, we made the decision to create a strategic partnership and lease brand new modern contemporary ships that were purpose built for us – Spirit of the Rhine, Danube and Moselle.
These purpose-built ships not only embody our operating values but also reflect feedback from our valued guests. Our first ship, Spirit of the Rhine was launched in 2021, with her sister ship, Spirit of the Danube following in 2022.
Both ships were designed with our guests in mind, to provide modern, contemporary surroundings, high levels of service and unforgettable experiences.
Our brand-new ship, Spirit of the Moselle is currently under construction, and will join her two sisters in 2025.
Our Captains
At the helm of every ocean cruise, our Captains are a big part of the boutique Saga cruise experience. Guests are invited to a special Captain’s dinner and other gala events, and the Captain is a familiar face on board throughout every cruise.
