La Rochelle
From La Pallice, visit the ‘White City’ of La Rochelle. This is French café culture at its best, with plenty of outside spaces to enjoy. The city is surrounded by 14th-century towers guarding the historic harbour, or venture into the old town with its arcaded walkways and Renaissance architecture.
Vigo
This Galician fishing port is perfectly placed to visit Santiago de Compostela. This ancient pilgrimage site is one of Spain’s finest old cities – a treasure trove of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque buildings. The most famous is the beautiful 11th-century cathedral, said to enshrine the bones of St James the Apostle.
The Azores
