This included excursion takes you on a leisurely sightseeing drive, with three short photo stops. Leave the port, passing Santa Catarina Park, and travel west towards the Santa Rita area, before arriving at your first photo stop offering a view of Funchal. Your drive continues to your second photo stop at Pico dos Barcelos. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the coastline, surrounding hills and the city.

Next, drive southwest, passing Câmara de Lobos, a picturesque fishing village, once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. Pause for a short photo at Pico da Torre viewpoint, which offers a view of the bay and the fishermen’s village below. Having seen Funchal and its surroundings from three viewpoints, you head back to your ship.

Explore one of the best examples of Madeiran landscaped gardens independently. After a short coach transfer, you will arrive at the Botanical Gardens nestled in the verdant hills overlooking Madeira’s capital. Once the grounds of a private estate, these gardens are now one of the island’s most celebrated attractions, renowned for their beauty and diversity.

Spread across five hectares, they showcase more than 2000 species of plants from every continent – some endangered in their native habitats – alongside a wealth of Madeira’s own flora. You will have time to explore independently, to wander at your own pace and take in the fragrance of blossoming flowers and the vibrant palette of greens, reds, yellows, and purples. Each step unveils new wonders, including viewpoints that offer sweeping vistas of Funchal and the island’s coastline.

Discover Funchal’s old town and market on this introductory walking tour. The tour begins with a short transfer by coach to the old town where, on arrival, you will set off on foot for a leisurely walk with your guide past the public gardens to Santa Maria Street, which is renowned for its painted doors, and you can learn more about the painted doors project from your guide.

Next, head to the local farmers market where stalls are brimming with tropical fruit, flowers, fish and regional products. While at the market you can taste a traditional Pastel del Nata - Portugals beloved custard tart. Having explored on foot, you will head back to your ship by coach.

Take in the highlights and views of La Palma on a scenic drive around the island.

Beginning from the pier in Santa Cruz de la Palma, your drive takes you firstly to the Mirador de la Concepcion, stopping for photos at this viewpoint before continuing to the Caldera de Taburiente. After pausing at the visitor centre, continue by coach to Mirador de La Cumbrecita, where you will stop for photos at the look out. The drive then continues to the western part of La Palma through Los Llanos de Aridane. Enjoy vistas of Los Llanos, surrounded by cacti and banana plantations, before returning to your ship via the town of El Paso.

Discover Mindelo on an introductory guided walk. A short bus transfer brings you first to dogs beach, offering distant views of Monte Cara. Your walk begins at the Mindelo Cultural centre, then head to main street where you will stroll through the city’s streets past the city hall and Nossa Sra da Luz.

Next, the walk continues to Dom Luis Plaza to see the mural tribute to Cesária Évora and then onto Amilcar Cabral Plaza. Having wandered through the streets of Mindelo, pause for a refreshment at a local venue before heading back to the ship.

Admire views of Mindelo on an introductory drive, pausing for time at leisure at Amilcar Cabral Plaza.

Start with a drive along the waterfront as you make your way to Monte Verde – Boca de Vento where you will pause for a photo stop. Then, you head towards Catfish Bay before continuing towards the city, stopping at the main street before travelling to Amilcar Cabral Plaza, where you can enjoy some time at leisure. As you head back to your ship, pause for a photo stop at the Laginha beach.

Take an introductory walk through Praia to explore the colonial city alongside a knowledgeable local guide.

Leave the pier by bus, and make your way to downtown Praia, situated on the peak of the Plateau hill, where your walking tour begins. As you stroll through the city, take in the rich cultural and historical landmarks, such as churches and the President's Palace. Explore the Archaeology Museum at the Culture Palace and the Ethnographic Museum, providing you with valuable insights into the local way of life as you meander through the market.

If time allows, you will have some free time to pick up souvenirs before the return transfer to the ship.

Leave the pier and head to the Plateau, the historic heart of Praia. Here, you will stroll through the historic streets where stalls sell souvenirs and local crafts. Next, head to Kintal da Musica to taste a Cape Verdean snack, alongside Fogo Wine. This is all set against the backdrop of a distinctive local dance celebration, creating a unique experience. Funana, an accordion-based music and dance genre with roots dating back almost a century, is said to owe its name to the pioneering musicians Funa and Nana.

Afterwards, return to the ship.

Join this introductory tour of Northern Gran Canaria visiting the village of Teror and the Duchess Gardens. Leaving Las Palmas, a one-hour drive brings you to Teror. On arrival, set off on a short, walking tour with your guide. Enjoy an outside visit to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pine, considered one of the most important churches in the Canaries after shepherds saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary nearby.

Next, continue by coach, passing the town of Arucas, as you make your way to the Los Jardines de la Marquesa (The Duchess Gardens). Established in 1880 by the island’s first Marquis, the gardens opened to the public in 1985. Spend approximately 40 minutes here allowing you the opportunity to stroll through the gardens, filled with Canarian and tropical plants, before returning to the ship.

Sit back and enjoy some of the sights of southern Gran Canaria at a relaxed pace, with time at leisure in the picturesque resort of Puerto de Mogan.

Begin by travelling south towards Playa del Ingles, the island’s main resort, where you will pause for a short photo stop to see the Maspalomas sand dunes with their rippling sands and sinuous curves. Next, head to a viewpoint overlooking modern Puerto Rico apartments built into the side of the hills that rise from the shoreline.

Afterwards, you travel to the resort of Puerto Mogan. This resort, with its backdrop of hills, white houses festooned with Bougainvillea and beachside promenade, offers a haven to enjoy some free time. During one-and-a-half hours of free time, perhaps stroll along the harbour, browse the shops or simply relax in one of the cafes before returning to Las Palmas.

Enjoy an introductory stroll through Vegueta, the historic Old Town of Las Palmas, before visiting the Columbus Museum.

A short coach transfer will bring you to the south of city where you will arrive in Vegueta – the site of the original settlement founded in 1478, when the troops of Juan Rejón moved in and began the conquest of the Canaries.

With your guide, stroll the streets before heading to Casa de Colón, a small museum housed in a colonial-style former governor's house. Said to have been visited by Columbus in 1492 when one of his ships was repaired, the museum showcases his voyages and highlights the connection between the Canaries and America.

After a chance to admire the exterior of Cathedral of Santa Anna, then you head back to the ship.

Travel from the pier inland to the historic town of Teguise, founded in the 15th century by the Conquistadores. On days when there is no market, you will be able to admire the beautifully restored houses and picturesque square during a short stop. Next, continue to Caleta Famara Beach, which Lanzarote artist César Manrique frequented as a child. A short photo stop will be made here.

Next, the drive takes you through the charming, typical Canarian villages of Soo, La Santa, Tinajo, Tiagua, and Mozaga. You will then pass through the La Geria wine region, famous for its unique, ash-covered landscape where grapevines are grown in volcanic hollows. Your final stop is at an Aloe Vera Farm, where you will have approximately 30 minutes to learn about the island's celebrated Aloe Vera, which thrives in Lanzarote's volcanic soil and is used in numerous ways. After your farm visit, you will return directly to the ship.

Perhaps wander around the marina, walk along the promenade and stop for a drink and a bite to eat at a bar or cafe overlooking the Atlantic. After your visit, meet at the designated time and place for the return transfer to the port.

Discover the city of Lisbon on this panoramic sightseeing tour. Leaving the port, drive past the Jerónimos Monastery, built using limestone over a period of 100 years starting in 1501; UNESCO-listed Belém Tower, constructed with the primary objective of protecting the bay; the Monument to the Discoveries; the pink façade of Belém Palace, the official residence of the Portuguese president; the new Coach Museum; Avenida da Liberdade, the most central avenue in Lisbon and a popular shopping district for both tourists and locals; and Edward VII park.

You will also cross the 25th April suspension bridge over the Tagus River to see the imposing statue of Christ the Redeemer. Stretching across the estuary to the Tagus River in Lisbon the suspension bridge is considered as a twin sister of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco because of its similar design. The bridge is an impressive sight, and it also offers a breathtaking view when crossing it. Visible from most parts of Lisbon and beyond, the statue of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Rei) stands a striking 270 feet high on its angular pedestal, overlooking the south bank of the Tagus River. One of Portugal’s most iconic landmarks standing tall with its robed arms outstretched, it was erected in 1959 and modelled on the famous Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro. Then, enjoy your scenic drive back to the port.

Explore downtown Lisbon on foot on this introductory walking tour. Starting from the pier your guide will take you to the lower section of the Alfama district, through the labyrinth of narrow cobbled alleyways, passing by the Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa), which was built in the 12th century, here you will have an exterior view before continuing to Figueira and Restauradores squares on your way to Rossio, once the liveliest square in the city. You can see the exterior of the Dona Maria National Theatre before continuing to Rua Augusta and Praça do Comércio, also known as “Black Horse Square”, named after the statue of King José I which has a central position. Having explored the sights of downtown Lisbon you will return to your ship.

Go in search of the whales and dolphins in the sea surrounding Madeira, accompanied by a marine biologist and skipper.

After a short transfer to the marina, there will be a briefing before your adventure begins; then set off on your RIB, fully equipped for observing a variety of marine life. Thanks to lookouts on land who will guide your boat towards the mammals, which may include Short-finned Pilot Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and Common Dolphins that often leap from the water displaying their acrobatic moves as they swim alongside the boats.

If you are lucky, you may also spot a Risso’s Dolphin, a Beaked Whale or an Orca, all of which are occasional visitors to Madeira.

Please note: There is an essential walking distance of 350 yards and up to 10 step to negotiate. Access to the boat is along a wooden boardwalk that may be wet and slippery. You must be able to climb in and out of the RIB boat unaided. Dexterity is required to get on and off the high-positioned seats. This trip is not recommended for those with back problems. Leaving the port, you travel off road through mountains, across small rivers and along valleys capturing scenic views of the island. The route the jeeps take is subject to weather conditions across the island, and your driver will give you a detailed itinerary on the day. Throughout this tour, you will have ample opportunities to discover and learn about the island’s native flora and fauna, including the Laurissilva forest.

Towards the end of the drive you will pause and enjoy a refreshment before returning to your ship.

Leave the pier and journey to the belvedere of Pico dos Barcelos, which offers a sweeping panorama. Continue to the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, which was once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. Known for its quaint, red-roofed houses and brightly painted fishing boats, its name translates to ‘The Sea Wolves’ Lair’. To reach Cabo Girão, your coach takes you through pine woods and eucalyptus forests. Cabo Girão is said to be the second-highest sea cliff in Europe: it rises right out of the sea, and the viewpoint where you stop for photos offers coastal views along Funchal, and out to the distant horizon. Your journey then takes you up into the mountains, passing the vineyards of Estreito de Câmara Lobos, one of the most important winegrowing areas on the island.

Arriving at the Adega da Quinta Restaurant, at Quinta do Estreito, you can enjoy more coastal views and sample local wine and Portuguese cheese before returning to the ship.

Follow the course of The Levadas and admire the mountain scenery and green farmland that cover Madeira.

Following a ‘Levada’ trail is one of the most enjoyable ways of exploring Madeira. These irrigation channels were created in the 19th century by the Portuguese settlers, who painstakingly carved them out of the rock by hand. Designed to carry fresh water from the north to the drier southern regions of the island, they helped to create many of the lush landscapes that can be seen today.

This guided walk will follow the course of The Levadas for approximately three-and-a-half miles, allowing you to admire the verdant plants, mountain views and Madeiran farmland. Your tour begins with a drive to Vale Paraiso, where you set off for your two-hour walk. The first half will be a gentle stroll over fairly level ground, rising to the Camacha area for its surrounding views. The second stretch will take you all the way to Rochão, where you rejoin the coach for the return journey to the port.

Please note: This tour requires walking of at least three and a half miles over uneven terrain with many steps. You should be physically fit to participate, and we recommend that you wear walking boots. The paths may be muddy. The drive from and to the ship will take approximately 30 minutes. Visit viewpoints including Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, before heading to Eira do Serrado to enjoy traditional Madeiran delicacies.

Leave Funchal and travel west to the Pico da Torre viewpoint from where you can see Câmara de Lobos and the surrounding landscape. Then, the drive continues to Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Take in the view of the valley below from its glass-floored skywalk, and see Curral das Freiras (Nun's Valley).

Next, the drive continues inland through the mountains to Eira do Serrado. Here, you can enjoy a tasting Bolo de Mel, a traditional Madeiran cake, and Poncha, a traditional Madeiran drink made with aguardente de cana (sugar cane rum), honey, and fruit juice. After admiring the scenic view at Eira do Serrado, head to Pico dos Barcelos. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view over Funchal, the coastline, and the surrounding hills.

Your excursion concludes with a scenic drive back to Funchal and your awaiting ship.

Explore Madeira from a motorcycle sidecar or as a pillion passenger.

Your bike will be in the capable hands of an experienced rider who is also a qualified local guide, and who will take you on a ride along the eastern side of Funchal. From the pier, you will head into Funchal’s Old Town, known locally as the Zona Velha.

Next, your ride will take you to the viewpoint of Pináculo. The ascent offers picturesque views of the surrounding landscape. The ride continues towards Garajau, a coastal area famous for its Cristo Rei statue. As you make your way back to Funchal, the drive will bring you along a scenic coastal route before re-entering the city’s historic centre, passing the city hall and cathedral before returning to your ship.

Enjoy a boat ride along the coast of Tazacorte in search of whales, dolphins and other marine life.

Leaving the pier, journey west for the one-hour drive across the island to the small fishing village of Tazacorte. Here, you will embark the boat set off in search of marine life. A number of different whale species, including pilot whales, and several species of dolphins can be spotted off the coast of La Palma.

The boat’s crew will be on hand to provide information on the marine environment and its inhabitants, and to answer any questions about the wildlife and the surrounding area. You may also have the opportunity to see the newly formed lava delta after the La Palma Volcano Tajogaite erupted in 2021. Following the boat trip tour you will have approximately one hour of free time in the port area of Tazacorte before returning to your ship in Santa Cruz.

Head off the beaten track in a 4x4 bus to explore the island's volcanic vistas, shaped by volcanic activity over the past century.

Board your 4x4 bus at the pier and head towards the hills of Las Breñas, crossing thick vegetation and looking over Cumbre Nueva, the island’s main mountain range. Continue into the mountains, across the National Park and on towards the Refugio del Pilar, until you reach the Mirador del Jable viewpoint. From this natural balcony enjoy a panoramic view of the Aridane Valley, the Caldera del Taburiente and the Cumbre Nueva hills.

Reboard your bus, to continue your adventure through volcanic scenery and along off-road tracks, pausing at the San Juan volcanic area, where you will be able to see a flowing lava river before crossing a large area of Canary Island pine. Pause to tuck into some traditional Canarian snacks before driving to the town of Fuencaliente. You will stop here to see the San Antonio volcano and the Teneguia volcano.

After admiring the view at approximately 633 metres above sea level, return to the ship by road.

Explore the north of La Palma, admire the scenery and sample Rum.

From the pier, travel by coach north to the viewpoint ‘Mirador de La Galga’, perched on the edge of two deep-cut gorges, pause here to take in the view. Next, continue driving to the evergreen forest of Los Tilos, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and home to colourful indigenous flora.

Next, your drive passes through the little town of Los Sauces, and then onwards to the coast passing Charco Azul as you make your way to the little, charming village of San Andrés, built around a whitewashed church and criss-crossed by cobbled streets. After visiting the village, head to the Tendal Museum (Parque Arqueológico El Tendal) where you can learn about the inhabitants of the island.

The final visit on the tour is to the Rum Factory ‘Ron de La Aldea’, which has been producing rum since 1969, while here you can enjoy a taste of the local tipple before heading back to your ship having explored the north of the island.

On arrival, a short stroll takes you to the small silk museum where you can witness silk being weaved by a 500-year-old process – the only place in Europe where this method is still used.

Afterwards, you visit a restored 17th-century sugar estate, now the boutique Hotel Hacienda de Abajo. Surrounded by rich vegetation and botanical gardens, this historic manor house exhibits a collection of art, including sculptures, paintings, furniture, porcelain, and tapestries. From here, it is a 50-minute drive to Los Tilos, which translates as ‘laurel forest’. You then set out on a walk through this forest of ancient laurels, lime trees and giant ferns. Visit three locations in northern Gran Canaria on this half-day excursion - Bandama Crater, Village of Teror and the Duchess Gardens.

The tour starts with a 30-minute journey to discover the volcanic origins of Gran Canaria’s Bandama Crater, an extinct volcano which rises nearly 1,900 feet above sea level. Pause here for a short photo stop to admire the island view, before travelling to Teror, a local town with whitewashed houses, red-tiled roofs and ornate carved balconies. Stroll through the cobblestone streets and enter the Church of Our Lady of the Pine, dedicated to the patron saint of Gran Canaria.

Continue to your final stop at the Los Jardines de la Marquesa (The Duchess Gardens), where there are numerous tropical and sub-tropical flowers, plants and trees from around the world. Embark on a five-mile hike around the Bandama Crater.

The Bandama Caldera is one of the youngest volcanoes on the Canarian archipelago. Its crater is over 650 feet deep, has a diameter of almost three-quarters of a mile and was last active about 3,000 years ago, when a series of eruptions took place that gave the Santa Brígida district its distinctive topography. Leaving the pier, your coach will take you up towards the volcano.

Here, begin your trek along a green path that takes you right into the heart of the Bandama Crater. At the centre of the crater, you will see an abandoned homestead; this was formerly the only inhabited volcanic crater in the world! From this point, enjoy interior views of the crater which will reveal the effects of the eruptions. After resting for a while, continue walking up the side of the crater: depending on the weather, you should be rewarded at the end with a panoramic view of the northern part of Gran Canaria.

Then, rejoin your coach and transfer back to the port.

Please note: This hike involves continuous walking for around three hours, covering approximately five miles, over rough and uneven terrain that includes steep gradients to enter and exit the crater. Visit the Mirador del Rio viewpoint and Jameos del Agua underground cavern – both of which showcase César Manrique’s architectural talent.

The tour begins with a coach transfer to the north of Lanzarote to visit the Jameos del Agua Cave. César Manrique turned what was once a water hole in the earth’s surface into an inspiring volcanic cavern and exotic subterranean water garden, Jameos del Agua.

On arrival, you descend into the cavern via a winding staircase leading down to the underground, natural lake. This underground lake is slightly illuminated by the sun and is home to the blind albino crab, which are unique to Lanzarote.

After your visit inside the cavern, you walk along the volcanic path to the surface where you can see the crystal blue waters of the swimming pool, a backdrop for many visitor’s photos. Reboard your coach and head to Mirador del Rio viewpoint, located 500 metres above a cliff. Lanzarote has a fascinating history, one of its most notable events being the eruptions of the 1730s, when the volcanoes in the Timanfaya area erupted for six years and covered nearly a third of the island with lava. This volcanic landscape is revealed in Timanfaya National Park, also known as ‘Fire Mountain’, which will be your first destination after driving through the whitewashed villages of Puerto del Carmen, Macher and Yaiza.

Once at the national park, begin a tour of the craters and lava beds in this lunar-like terrain. Your guide will perform demonstrations to show the latent power of the volcano.

Afterwards travel through the Salt Planes to La Geria, where vineyards dot the landscape. Here, the vines are protected by semi-circular stonewalls, making them look more like art than agriculture. This excursion begins with a transfer to Peñas del Chache, the highest point of the island, where your trek begins. Visit the charming town of Sintra, where you can admire many stunning buildings and works of art.

The whole town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on account of its 19th-century romantic architecture. On arrival you will visit Sintra National Palace, also known as Palácio da Vila, famous for its magnificent painted ceilings. The palace is the only survivor of the country's Royal Halls, dating from the Middle Ages. One of the highlights is its kitchen, complete with huge 110-feet high conical chimneys.

After your visit to the palace, stop for refreshments, and then enjoy free time to explore on your own. The town has retained much of its medieval layout, with labyrinthine streets, flights of steps and arcaded buildings. On your return journey to the ship you will follow a section of the scenic ocean road, and pass the Belém district with its famous tower.

Please note: During the visit to Sintra Palace there will be one hour of standing and essential walking covering approximately 550 yards. There are approximately 120 steps and a winding staircase inside the palace. Walking during time at leisure is at your discretion, but please note Sintra Town has cobbled streets, steps and inclines. The drive to Sintra will take approximately one hour, the return drive to the ship will take one-and-a-half hours. You will have approximately one hour at the Sintra National Palace, followed by one-and-a-half hours of free time.

Join us to discover the lesser explored area of Lisbon, Arrábida. Leaving the port, your journey by coach takes you over the 25th April bridge and on a scenic drive to Sesimbra, an old fishing village which lies at the foothills of the Serra da Arrábida mountain range.

The village is lined with traditional whitewashed houses, overlooked by Sesimbra’s Moorish Castle. Enjoy an exterior visit of the castle for approximately 30 minutes before the tour continues by coach to Azeitão. Azeitão is located in the nature reserve of the Serra da Arrábida and is known for its tasty regional products.

During your time in the area, you will visit one of the local wine cellars and have the opportunity to taste the Moscatel wines. The tour concludes with a scenic drive through Arrábida Natural park before returning to the ship.
