Make a stop outside The Dakota, John Lennon's former residence and the place of his passing in 1980. If you wish, take a brief stroll to the Strawberry Fields area of Central Park, dedicated to honouring Lennon's memory. Back on board your tour vehicle, continue to Rockefeller Centre, famously known as "30 Rock," a prominent and iconic feature of New York’s skyline. This hop on, hop off bus service allows you to explore multiple locations across New York City independently and visit many of the city’s iconic landmarks. Step on board the classic sightseeing bus at the cruise terminal and take your seat inside – or on the open-topped upper deck. There are two sightseeing loops of the city: a Downtown loop with 12 stops and an Uptown loop with seven stops. Beginning with the Downtown loop, take the opportunity to step off and explore at Times Square, the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center remembrance site, amongst others. Buses arrive every 15 minutes along the Downtown loop, allowing you to continue sightseeing at your convenience. At Times Square, you can choose to transfer to the Uptown loop, which includes stops at Central Park and the MoMA. Buses on this circuit arrive every 30 minutes. When you are ready – whether you have enjoyed either a full day or just a few hours of exploration – take the Downtown bus back to the cruise terminal and your ship.

We recommend this excursion for active travellers who wish to explore multiple locations across the city during the day independently. You will not be accompanied by a guide or Saga escort. The service is operated by Big Bus Tours and is not exclusive to Saga guests. Seats are allocated on the outbound journey from the cruise terminal, however they are subject to availability on subsequent journeys, including the return journey, therefore please ensure you allow sufficient time for your return to the ship. You will be responsible for returning to the ship prior to the all-aboard time. On your return to the Cruise Terminal, the bus will stop across the street and a short walk is required to reach the ship. Whilst you are free to use the Downtown and Uptown service, it should be noted that the Cruise Terminal is only serviced by the Downtown loop. A short stop is made outside the colourful 19th-century ‘Gingerbread Cottages’, a local landmark. Continue through the coastal town of Tisbury before heading inland. Pass through fall scenery to the village of West Tisbury and the ‘Up-Island’ region of Martha’s Vineyard before arriving on the island’s east coast to visit the town of Edgartown, which is brimming with New England charm. Enjoy a brief coach drive to Battery Park, at the Southern tip of Manhattan where you will board the ferry and take in the sights of New York Harbour and glimpse beautiful views of the city including Brooklyn and its famous Bridge, Staten Island, New Jersey and the Manhattan skyline in the distance. Stop at Liberty Island for a walk around the base of the Statue of Liberty. Re-boarding the ferry, you will continue to Ellis Island, another National Historic Landmark. Ellis Island was the main immigration centre for the United States from 1892 until World War Two. Today it is an exceptional museum detailing all the different aspects of immigration. More than 12 million immigrants were processed here on the island. Enjoy approximately one-and-a-half hours to independently explore the museum, souvenir shops and cafes before boarding the ferry back to Battery Park.

The world was left shocked by a series of tragic events, and this tour offers a powerful and moving experience at the memorial and museum situated on the World Trade Centre site. A coach transfer will take you from the port to the Tribute Centre, where you'll meet your knowledgeable guide. They will recount the events of 9/11, sharing personal stories and explaining the symbolism of the memorial. Equipped with an audio system, you'll embark on an approximately 75-minute walk through the memorial site, where first-hand accounts from those present on that fateful day will unfold. The Memorial consists of two expansive pools set within the original footprints of the Twin Towers, with 30-foot waterfalls cascading down their sides. Bronze parapets encircling the waterfalls bear the names of the 2,982 individuals – men, women, and children – who tragically lost their lives in the September 11, 2001, and February 26, 1993, attacks. Prior to your visit to the museum, your guide will pause to share the touching tale of the "Survival Tree." This callery pear tree's charred trunk was retrieved from the debris of the World Trade Centre site following the attacks. Earning the name ""Survivor Tree,"" it has since grown into a living symbol of resilience, survival, and rebirth. Accompanied by your guide, proceed to the entrance of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, where you will have approximately two hours to explore independently. Browse the museum's extensive collection, featuring artefacts, photographs, audio recordings, and video tapes. Destined for New York, it was never intended that the Titanic and Halifax should meet; yet the two are now inseparable. The events of April 15th, 1912 are now embraced by the City of Halifax. Laid to rest in the city’s Fairview Lawn Cemetery are 121 victims of the tragedy. Visit the gravestones before passing sites connected to the aftermath of the sinking - such as the morgue that accepted the body of John Jacob Astor, American businessman and millionaire who was the richest person on board, and who perished with 1,503 others. See the pier from which the MacKay-Bennett sailed - famous as the first ship contracted to carry out the difficult task of recovering the bodies left floating in the ocean 700 nautical miles east of Halifax. Finally, you visit the maritime museum to see the largest collection of wooden Titanic artifacts in the world and hear the tale of the visit to Halifax of the ship’s most famous survivor, Margaret Tobin. She exhorted the crew of Lifeboat No.6 to return and look for survivors, and later became known as 'The Unsinkable Molly Brown'.

Cap-aux-Meules is the second-largest island in the Magdalen archipelago, but has the largest population and is the administrative centre. Leaving the port, take in the scenery of Gros-Cap as you travel to your first venue, La Vernière Church, a wooden church originally built in 1876, which is now classified as a historical monument. This is the second-largest wooden church in North America. It was struck several times by lightning: first in 1900, then in 1945, 1947 and 1980. The wood used in its construction was retrieved from shipwrecks and had to be blessed before the building could be rebuilt. It is an important part of the Madelinot heritage. Continue to À l'abri de La Tempête microbrewery, locally renowned for its complete use of local raw materials in the creation of its beers. The brewers started by using locally malted barley, then moved on to harvesting and using fresh flowers, marine algae and herbs to produce full-flavoured, distinctive beers. During your visit, you will have an opportunity to taste two types of their product while admiring fine coastal views across la Dune de l'Ouest. Your next stop is at Côte, where you can enjoy some time to explore at leisure. Perhaps visit Le Flâneur Art Gallery with its display of paintings and handmade dolls, as well as a tearoom. The north coast of the island boasts spectacular jagged cliffs, which you can see during your final stop of this excursion. Cap-Hérissé lighthouse is a striking example of a sea-sculpted cliff. The locals refer to "bagosse" as the beer of the Islands, but it is really a traditional home-brewed wine. Enjoy an introduction and tasting of the fortified wine and raspberry liquor produced here. Then, continue to Dune-du-Sud, where red cliffs sculpted by the sea shelter one side of a beautiful beach. Take some time to enjoy a stroll on the beach and admire the cliffs and caves. Your next stop is at Cap Alright Lighthouse, built in 1928, which offers a fine view over Plaisance Bay and the Île-d’Entrée. After stopping here for photographs, take the Chemin Pointe-Basse, a road from where you can see traditional local architecture, including simple houses and brightly-coloured barns. The Acadian and French origins of many of the islanders, as well as some New England influences, are reflected in their homes. Typical details include a small, enclosed porch, corbels, a veranda, and painted or stained cedar shingles. From here, return to Cap Aux Meules and your ship.

An exploration by boat along the coastline is the ideal way to admire the islands' red cliffs sculpted by the sea. Make the short walk from your cruise ship to the marina and your sightseeing vessel, where you will be greeted by the crew and hosts. As you head off along the coast, your guide will tell you about the region’s local history and, when possible, will point out various species of birds. View the coastline of towering cliffs featuring caves and tunnels carved out by the sea. You will also learn about lobster fishing and will be shown how a lobster trap is raised. The lobster season, which runs only for nine weeks here, starting in early May, is strictly regulated and only a limited number of boats are permitted to catch lobsters. At the end of your excursion, the boat returns to the marina and a short walk brings you back to the tender pier.

This exploration of Acadian culture begins with a drive south from Cap-aux-Meules to Havre-Aubert Island. The first Acadians to arrive in the archipelago settled in Havre-Aubert and traces of this history can still be found in the local architecture. Stop at Le Site d’Autrefois, where you can learn more about the traditional lifestyle of fishermen here. The museum was created by Claude Bourgeois, a former captain who started fishing at the age of 15 with his father on a lobster boat in the early 1970’s. In the spring of 1990, Claude’s own lobster fishing vessel sank off the island during a storm. Enjoy a stroll through the site and hear about the evolution of the fisheries since the Acadian’s settled the Islands. Continue to the village of Havre-Aubert, home to the islands’ first Acadian colony, and the National Historical Site of La Grave. Named after its pebble beach, ‘grève’ in French, it's famous today for its traditional architecture. Spend some free time here before visiting the studio of Atelier Cotier. In this unique studio, the sand from the islands is transformed into unique sculptures, some of which can be purchased as souvenirs. The excursion starts with a visit to Pied-de-Vent, a cottage-industry factory that uses raw milk to produce two varieties of cheese: Pied-de-Vent and Tomme des Demoiselles. After an introduction to the production process you will have the opportunity to taste some of the cheese. Then, travel along Chemin Pointe-Basse, a road lined with traditional local architecture of brightly-painted houses and barns with a simple style. The Acadian and French origins of many of the islanders is reflected in the architecture of their homes, which often have a small enclosed porch, veranda, and cedar shingles. Continue to the Fumoir d’Antan, a smoked herring eco-museum. This typical old smokehouse has been used for three generations to smoke herring, mackerel, salmon and scallops, and is one of the last vestiges of what was once a very important industry. After a tour and small tasting, continue to Echouerie lighthouse and enjoy the view across Plaisance Bay and outline of Entry Island. Your final stop is at the Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Tree, a 500-year-old cedar tree carved as a totem pole and erected in 1999. Standing 50-feet-high, the Heritage tree features carvings of Newfoundland and Labrador’s important events and people, from prehistoric times to modern day. A short transfer from the port is the Marble Mountain Zip Line Adventure. This site is popular with skiers during the winter months, but a series of zip-lines provide thrills during the summer. After a safety briefing you will harness-up and begin your adventure from the first zipline platform. Each zipline provides a different view as you soar over the Humber Valley and a 250-foot waterfall, reaching speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. There are nine zip lines in total, the longest being 2000 feet and the highest being 285 feet above the ground. St John's, North America's oldest European-settled city, is the capital of Newfoundland, Canada's youngest province and formerly Britain's oldest overseas colony. For hundreds of years it has played host to explorers and conquerors, marauding pirates and merchant adventurers. Your tour starts at historic Signal Hill, where the Italian inventor Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal in 1901. It could be argued that this site gave birth to the Information Age. Enjoy the panoramic view over the city and rugged coastline, with the continent's most easterly point in the distance. Afterwards, continue through the New World's oldest downtown district, which features colourful Victorian wooden housing, characteristic of St John's. See Government House – built the same year as Washington's White House but at a higher cost – before travelling to Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America. Here you can enjoy the dramatic setting of the continent's extreme edge while exploring the tunnels and fortifications that protected the gateway to the New World during the wars of the 20th century. On your return journey to St John’s, pass through the scenic fishing village of Petty Harbour – one of the most photographed communities in Newfoundland.

Atop Signal Hill you will find Cabot Tower, built in 1897 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Newfoundland’s discovery. The building houses a small Marconi Museum and was witness to what Life Magazine called ‘the birth of the information age’ in 1901. You will view the most easterly point in North America in the distance and enjoy the panoramic city scenery before starting your hike on the unforgettable North Head Trail descending almost 500 feet. Take in the scenery and panoramic view as you walk along the trail, which features rugged coastal vistas, passing fishing vessels and scattered boulders left by ancient glaciers thousands of years ago. Walk over the Signal Hill Fault and check out the autumn plants and subarctic berries along the trail. The hiking trail ends at the colourful fishing village called the Battery, after which you will wind your way up and out through the narrow streets and on to St John’s city sidewalks. During your walking tour, you can stand where Sir Humphrey Gilbert stood in 1583, claiming this New Founde Lande under the Royal Charter of Queen Elizabeth I. See the architecture of historic churches, rows of colourful houses and ornate monuments. Your guide will retell the notable events from the past, from touting political outcasts and last hangings, to recounting the Great Fire of 1892 that engulfed most of the town and left almost half its population homeless. Your tour begins with a trip to the Southside of the harbour near Fort Amherst. Here, you view the geological fault known as Devil’s Crack, spanning across the entrance to St John’s Harbour. Continue to the GeoCentre located part-way up Signal Hill. The walls inside the building’s perimeter are exposed natural rock, so that visitors can see the features and characteristics of Signal Hill’s geology. Here on the harbourfront, you can practically hear the echoes of long ago when merchants, captains, and crew loaded and unloaded their catch, supplies, and wares. By the early 1500’s, St John’s was a bustling seaport; it quickly became the centre of commercial activity in Newfoundland. Raise your glass to the 'larger than life' anecdotes told on the oldest streets in North America! A short drive will then bring you to the picturesque village of Quidi Vidi (pronounced Kitty Vitty). Walk through the delightful waterside setting to reach the Quidi Vidi Brewery where you will have an opportunity to sample some Newfoundland ales. As you savour different flavours of craft brews, peer out over the deck railing and ponder how this incredible inlet is home to many of St John's fishing people that brave the cold North Atlantic every day to make their living.
