Out of the shipyard
Today was a very special day, as Spirit of Adventure emerged from the shipyard for the first time. She didn’t travel far, but being ‘floated out’ from the large construction hangar into the sunlight is still an important milestone for our new ship. With blue skies, sunshine, and just a touch of cloud, it was an altogether pleasant day in Papenburg.
Slowly, Spirit of Adventure’s navy-blue bow peeked out of the building dock, and she ventured outside for the first time. Then, her distinctive yellow funnel was craned into place. She is now unmistakably a Saga ship in every way. The Meyer Werft shipyard lies on the River Ems, and Spirit of Adventure spent some time floating on the water here before returning.
So what next? The remainder of her interiors will be worked on in August, while the next big engineering milestone will be her sea trials the following month. The inaugural cruise is set for November 5, 2020, sailing out of Southampton. Just a few months left to wait!
