After yesterday’s magical day’s cruising in Sognefjorden, today’s visit to Bergen was just as rewarding.

I handed over the navigational watch to Chief Officer Emmeline as the sun was on the rise and our pilot had just arrived back onto the bridge. From there the team delivered yet another faultless arrival and we were securely alongside in Bergen just before 0800.

I have heard it mentioned several time before that “it always rains in Bergen” maybe the “Manchester of Norway?!” Certainly this was not the case today. The skies were clear and the sunshine was warm and inviting as our passengers embarked on tours around the town and hikes into the mountains.

For me I was awake again to take part in our weekly drills and from there it was back to the bridge for the afternoon watch. C/O Emmeline decided to go for a hike up in the mountains, providing some stunning views of the harbour below, whilst our Staff Captain Tom and Second Officer Hugo headed for the hustle and bustle of the fish market, a place I have been a few times before that offers a delicious selection of fresh fish and seafood. I’ve heard a rumour that Ice Cream was also consumed by the pair of them!

As the end of my watch approached I was joined back on the bridge by our other Third Officer Carl, who assisted me with our departure checks and preparing the vessel for sailing. After my watch I proceeded to forward mooring stations for the departure.

Carl was given the opportunity to drive out tonight under the guidance of the Pilots and Captain Burgess. Not the easiest manoeuvre but he was calm, cool and collected as he guided us away from the berth handing the ‘Con’ of the vessel back to the Pilot as we passed under the Byfjorden Bridge heading for more Magic Moments on Saga Sapphire tomorrow in Hardangerfjorden.
