Spirit of Discovery blog
Helsinki
This should still have the Master’s signature block at the very end, but this is the actual blog.
Our Cadets, Alarna and Elena, were tasked by me to explore Helsinki, and it would appear that they enjoyed their exploration.
“Our first port of call to start the week was to Finland, and Helsinki. This beautiful city is recognized for its neoclassical architecture and rich history.
We started our adventure in the famous Hakaniemi Market Hall with a variety of stalls where we got to taste the traditional gooseberry jam, which was amazing. We made our way across to the outdoor market and found some lovely handmade items, all of which were designed locally. We bought a hand painted canvas and a ceramic handmade necklace to remind us of our day in Helsinki.
Our route back to Spirit of Discovery passed by the Uspenski cathedral which is one of the largest orthodox churches in Western Europe, and also an ice cream shop – they were very good ice creams.
Finland has been named as one of the happiest places to live, and we can see why after being lucky enough to experience the charm of this peaceful city.
Kind Regards
Your Saga cadets Alarna and Elena
