The final port of call on our ‘Fjordland Wonders’ cruise saw us visit the port of Kristiansand in Norway. There is only one letter that differentiates its name from Kristiansund - another city in Norway situated much further north. Often mistaken, so I was glad that we found the right one.

My favourite pet this month –moose –greeted all our guests as they were proceeding ashore.

Two of our most popular tours today were ‘Charming Little Lillesand’ and ‘Setesdalen Vintage Railway’. Lillesand is perhaps the most beautiful little town in the region. Many houses here date from the 18th and 19th centuries, when Lillesand was bustling with maritime activity. At one point, the shipowners in Lillesand owned 87 ships and several shipyards.

The second tour brings out the child in everyone’s heart. On board the vintage train, powered by a steam locomotive over 100 years old,  guests travelled along the picturesque Setesdal railway. Built to link the city of Kristiansand to the Setesdal valley, the railway was opened in 1896 and closed some 66 years later in 1962. Fortunately, just over three miles of the line from Grovane to Røyknes was subsequently re-opened as a preserved railway.

Once back on board our passengers were able to look ahead to a fun evening of entertainment. It was also our final formal evening so everybody was able to take the chance to dress up in all their finery. Pre-dinner drinks were appreciated in Cooper’s Bar at our cocktail hour with our resident piano entertainer Mattias Eskilsson providing the melodies and following this, a fabulous formal dinner was enjoyed in the restaurants. The main attraction of the evening was a fantastic performance of Viva Voce –Four fine singers sang our guests favourites from the world of Opera and Pop.

For those who wished to stay up a little later, they could join our Explosive Vocalist in the Drawing Room for some late night cabaret as they presented a collection of songs to suit all musical tastes.
