Ponta Delgada, Azores

With the Caribbean Experience firmly stored in our memory banks, we continued our journey eastwards across the pond. We encountered a certain amount of rock’n roll and also some fairly strong headwinds on our passage which held up our progress to a certain extent, and so our ETA in Ponta Delgada was a little later than originally planned. I opted to delay our sailing further into the evening so as to offer as much time as possible ashore for both our passengers and our crew!

The former fishing village of Ponta Delgada is now the capital of Sao Miguel, widely regarded as the most beautiful island of the Azores. I must say I can only agree with that statement and indeed our lunchtime sail in to the port afforded some spectacular views of this stunning island.

With the last mooring line made fast our gangway was duly landed and the first of our tours, together with our independent passengers, made their way ashore. On offer today was Sete Cidades Hike, Jeep safari, Fire Lake & Ribeira Grande and a visit to the Plantation Gardens & Crater Lakes - something for everyone.

The evening soon came and it was time to cast off our lines and make our way back ‘home’ following what has been a wonderful cruise to a region that is, in my mind certainly, one of the most beautiful our world has to offer.
