My name is Krzysztof Majdzinski and I joined Saga Sapphire a week ago to familiarize myself with the ship under the experienced eye of Captain Philip Rentell. Some of you may remember me as I have had the privilege to be in command of Spirit of Adventure, Saga Ruby and Saga Pearl II. Now the time has come for me to Captain this beautiful vessel, the flagship of the Saga Fleet.

Monday was very busy day for my team. Within a few hours they managed to prepare all cabins and to fully re-stock the vessel with fine food and drinks. As we greeted our new guests on this Baltic Gems cruise the ship was ready to sail. It is a very special cruise for me as not only is it my first on board Saga Sapphire, but I have the opportunity to take our passengers to my favourite part of the world, including my home port of Gdynia in Poland.

We left Dover harbour just after 16.30 and right outside I stopped the vessel so our guests could enjoy our very own air show. Two Spitfire fighter planes performed fantastic manoeuvres right above our heads, and the buzz across the deck meant that it was appreciated by all our passengers; it was a great start to this cruise. When the show ended we moved towards the busy traffic lanes of the English Channel, as I am in a hurry to take all our passengers to our first port of call – Gdynia!
