Lisbon, Portugal

Today there were only a few guests booked on an excursion, with most choosing Lisbon Panoramic, a relaxing way to appreciate this lovely historical city and enjoy a cup of coffee with a Pastel De Belem, the custard pastry which Lisbon is famous for.

For our Magic Moment this cruise, 35 lucky guests were drawn to join this special event where they enjoyed a fantastic meal as well as being entertained by local performers. They were accompanied by the senior officers of the Hotel and Cruise Departments.

Our main Show Time this evening was the second performance by Master Marionettes, John and Josef and their "Stars On Strings".  Our guests had the chance to ask questions of John and Josef, and even play with the puppets after the show. The Saga Orchestra followed playing music for dancing. The Late Night cabaret featured our guest Jazz Lecturer, Steve Simone performing jazz hit songs and cool, up-beat soul tracks while at Coopers Bar, cocktail pianist Martin Orbidans entertained guests with classic songs and requests.

The next day, while at sea, I held my Farewell Cocktail Party. Once I had finished speaking and just started to walk off stage, Kayleigh, the Cruise Director called me back to present me with a little “Mini Me”. It was a model of me that had been crafted by our arts and craft lecturer out of clay. It looked very life-like. I have to say it looked excellent, but the lecturer told me not to worry about my midriff as they had had to use a skittle to model the clay around so I have a sort of strange, beer bottle shape. But who cares, it was definitely the thought that counts and I am very taken by my "Mini Me".

Anyway, in Southampton I go home, and my little boy Scott has been telling me how many sleeps before I come home so he has been getting his daddy all excited.  I have enjoyed my time on Sapphire and although I was away from home this year for Christmas, I cannot think of anywhere else I would rather be than with the Ship's Company and passengers.

I go to Saga Pearl II for one tour and will then be back here.

Until the next time,

Captain Alistair Mclundie
