Saga Pearl II blog - Captains' blogs
3rd November, 2018
We certainly had a bit of luck on our way down with decent weather for this time of year. Our hotel and entertainment team did a great job on the 3 seadays, looking after us well with great food and great entertainment. Our welcome onboard cocktail party was well attended by all as well.
We arrived a little earlier here today and managed to get our pilot at 1030 on the 3rd Nov and we were put on the best north pier which is closer to town. We were docked by 1100 and many of our keen guests were ready to go ashore. I went with my family for a walk in the afternoon and an ice-cream, the weather was sunny and warm and I am sure all welcomed this!! We went for a lovely meal up in the mountains in the evening and the views up there over Funchal are amazing!
Madeira highlights tour is in on the cards for day 2 and it was great to see all the sights and go up to one of the peaks of this island, which is about 5000ft up or so, meaning we were above the cloud level which gives rise to some great photos we took!!
After a fantastic overnight stay in Funchal it was time to leave at 4pm and then set sail south to the island of La Palma. I have been many times to Madeira and this call was up there as one of the best ones.
Full steam ahead to the Canaries!!
