Lerwick

Saga Pearl II blog - Captains' blogs

15th July, 2018

I really do enjoy coming to the Shetland Islands, it is always nice weather when I sail here and today is no exception as we are approaching Lerwick. We embarked our pilot at the very sociable hour of 7am and we entered into the harbour, turning around by the dock and coming alongside ready to go at 8am. A little warmer today than yesterday and no showers predicted so looks to be a nice day for tours and exploration.

Lerwick is bustling with fishing boat activity and is one of the major fishing ports in this region. Probably more fish come in here a day then there is in a lot of the down south ports put together. Tours proved popular again today, especially the scenic tours where you get to enjoy the wonders of the Shetland Islands from the comfort of a bus. A lot of the crewmembers embraced the wonders of the local Co-op and British cuisine, including doughnuts and cookies – yummy!

6pm comes around quick in nice ports and today is no exception so it was time to leave ready for our journey to Iceland with a sea day tomorrow. Weather is looking okay for us so full steam ahead to the northern latitudes!
