Spend the afternoon in Würzburg, the centre of Franconia's wine industry where you can enjoy a guided tour.

Picturesque Würzburg on the banks of the River Main was the ancient seat of the prince-bishops and consequently is home to many fine monuments and buildings. Enjoy a tour of the Residenz Palace, one of Europe’s most splendid baroque palaces, dating back to the 18th century. Admire the famous grand staircase and Imperial Hall with frescoes by Tiepolo and the extensive gardens, before a tour of the town which reveals the cathedral, old Main Bridge and the 13th-century Fortress of Marienberg.

Set sail again before dinner and cruise through the night bound for Miltenberg.

Having arrived before breakfast, you can spend the morning in the charming wine town of Rüdesheim, Perhaps visit one of the 'olde-worlde' taverns in the famed Drosselgasse for a glass of local beer or wine.

Alternatively, join an optional excursion that visits the extraordinary Siegfried's Museum of Mechanical Music or another which features a wine tasting. This afternoon your cruise continues through the UNESCO-listed Middle Rhine, passing the fabled Lorelei Rock en route to Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle. Discover the attractive riverside promenade and several historic churches, all set beneath the Festung Ehrenbreitstein citadel on top of the hill.

Wake this morning in Cologne, Germany's cultural capital, and enjoy an included tour of the city. The vast Gothic cathedral, started in 1248 to house the relics of the three Magi, was not finally completed until 1880! It houses the shrine to Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar – now among the patron saints of Cologne – behind the high altar.

Depart and cruise through the afternoon and overnight towards Amsterdam.

The Dutch capital is rightly popular for its friendly welcome, picturesque canals, world-class museums and galleries and laid-back cafes and bars.

This afternoon you can join an included walking tour of the Dutch capital which explores the local food and culture or opt for an included tour of Amsterdam by coach to see the Royal Palace on Dam Square, the floating flower market, the Central Railway Station, which is built on thousands of wooden piles, and the grand 19th-century Rijksmuseum.

Afterwards, enjoy a canal cruise to the city centre with its historic bridges and attractive gabled houses and see the famous Skinny Bridge, the Montelbaanstoren tower and the Jewish Quarter.

Spirit of the Rhine remains moored here for the final night of your holiday.

Founded in 973, this enchanting Bavarian cathedral city sits on seven hills overlooking the Regnitz River Valley. Its rich architectural legacy earned Bamberg UNESCO World Heritage status in 1993. Your tour visits the cathedral, a fine representation of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture. This stunning building, with twin apses, four towers and an impressive ‘Prince’s Portal’, is home to the medieval equestrian statue of the Bamberg Rider, the tomb of Emperor Henry II and other fine examples of German Gothic sculpture (entry to the cathedral may not always be possible). Walk through the historic streets to discover the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) located on an island in the middle of the river, the magnificent Renaissance building of Alte Hofhaltung and the quaint fisherman’s houses of ‘Little Venice’. Enjoy a themed tour of Bamberg, which promises to bring hundreds of years of the city’s culinary traditions to life. Your tour will begin at the Schlachthaus - abattoir – and continues into the old town. Miltenberg beer tasting

Take a short walk from the ship’s berth in the heart of Miltenberg’s old town is the Brauhaus Faust. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of this brewery founded in 1654. Discover the history of Bavarian beer brewing and, of course, sample the beer, accompanied by a typical Bavarian pretzel!

Siegfrieds Museum of Mechanical Music

Siegfried Wendel’s eccentric collection of 350 self-playing instruments is a veritable treat for eyes and ears. In this whimsical museum you’ll find a fantastical, nostalgic and joyous cacophony of beautiful music boxes, barrel organs, hand-cranked carnival machines and early jukeboxes, all in full working order. High points include the ‘Puppet Orchestrion’, a huge cabinet containing puppet musicians (1888) and the later ‘Phonoliszt Violina’ a blend of piano and violins that plays in perfect harmony.

Rudesheim Wine Tasting

Board a tourist train and travel into the centre of Rudesheim to Weingut Adolf Storzel. Located just a few steps from the famous Drosselgasse, this family owned winery dates back to the 16th century. Your knowledgeable host will introduce you to 3 different white wines from the winery. A pretzel is served alongside to neutralise the taste of the different wines.

After the wine tasting you will have the possibility to taste and purchase other white and red wines and different liquors and brandies. A small glass decorated with the coat of arms of the family is yours to take away as a souvenir. Afterwards, the tourist train will take you back to your ship, unless you decide to stroll back at your leisure; perhaps via the Drosselgasse!
