Day 1 UK to Cologne

Beautiful Cologne at night

Travel to Cologne (a journey from Calais of approximately five hours) and embark Rex Rheni. Enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board this evening. The ship remains moored in Cologne overnight.

Cologne North Rhine-Westphalia Rhineland Germany Europe

Day 2 Cologne 🎧

Cologne Cathedral

This morning you’ll enjoy the first photography talk from your host, Jason Dodds before spend the rest of the day in Cologne.

Explore independently in the morning, using an interactive map and audio headset to take a self-guided tour. Arguably most famous for its eponymous brand of perfume, which has now become a generic term for men's aftershave, Cologne was founded by the Romans and has long been an important trading centre. The vast Gothic cathedral that towers over the surroundings was started in 1248 as a pilgrimage church to house the relics of the Three Magi. The two spires are 157 metres high, and were not completed until 1880.

This afternoon, join your fellow photographers for an included photography walk led by Jason around the city. Your ship remains moored here overnight.

Day 3 Cologne to Andernach

Andernach Geyser

Set sail over breakfast and cruise through the morning to reach Andernach at lunchtime.

This afternoon an included excursion visits the incredible geyser for which the town is best known. This startling natural phenomenon is the world’s highest cold-water geyser and sends jets of water shooting upwards to an astonishing 60 metres in height, with accompanying noisy burps and gurgles. At the Discovery Centre you’ll learn about the science behind this geological wonder, and what happens 4,000 metres below the earth’s surface to drive and power this natural fountain. A boat will take you out to the Namedyer Werth peninsula, a nature reserve, to witness the geyser and taste the water for yourself. Take advantage of some free time to capture the wonders and natural beauty of Andernach from every angle.

Remain moored here overnight.

Andernach Rhineland-Palatinate Rhineland Germany Europe

Day 4 Andernach to Rüdesheim 🎧

Rudesheim am Rhein, Germany

Set sail before breakfast, enjoy a morning talk from your host and arrive in Rüdesheim early this afternoon.

Perhaps explore the wine town’s cobbled Drosselgasse in search of a local tipple or alternatively join an optional excursion, one includes a wine tasting while another offers the chance to see and hear eccentric mechanical music machines in action.

Day 5 Rüdesheim to Mainz 🎧

Mainz

After breakfast resume your cruise, making the short voyage to Mainz, where you will spend the rest of the day.

Enjoy time this morning to explore independently, or conduct a self-guided tour using your interactive map and audio headset. In the afternoon there will be an included photography walk led by Jason around the city with your fellow photographers. Day 6 Mainz to Boppard

Boppard

Enjoy a photography talk on board this morning as you cruise along the beautiful Moselle to the picturesque town of Boppard.

Boasting more than 2,000 years of history, this picturesque town is located in the valley of the mythical Lorelei. This afternoon and evening you can go ashore and explore the town. The Rheinallee along the waterfront is an attractive promenade, and the Gothic Carmelite Church is famous for its 15th-century choir stalls.

Day 7 Boppard to Koblenz 🎧

Fireworks over the Rhine Valley, Koblenz

After a morning at leisure in Boppard, you'll sail through lunch to reach Koblenz.

This afternoon join an included excursion which visits the imposing Ehrenbreitstein Fortress which looms over the town. Immortalised by Byron and Herman Melville, lofty fortifications have glowered over Koblenz since 1,000 AD and changed faces over the centuries. The Prussians constructed Festung Ehrenbreitstein in the early 19th century, when Rhineland became a Prussian province. Despite being Europe’s second largest fortress, after Gibraltar, it played no part in either WWI or WWII. Enjoy a panoramic cable car ride from Koblenz up to the fortress, the views are astounding and you’ll learn about the history of the site. There will be a guided walk around the historic city of Koblenz, and you can photograph the elegant architecture. Look forward to a light hearted photography competition later today.

This evening you witness the glorious fireworks finale of the Rhine in Flames festival. Remain moored in Koblenz overnight.
