Day 1 UK to Zurich to Davos


Fly from the UK to Zurich and transfer from the airport to Davos, for a two-night stay on a half-board basis at a locally rated 4-star hotel in Davos. Enjoy dinner at your hotel for the next two nights. D.

Day 2 Davos

Davos city and lake, Switzerland

Breathe deep, enjoy the crystal clear air – at 1,560m Davos is the highest town in the Alps. The day is yours to either make the most of the superb wellness facilities at your hotel or to get out and about at altitude. Perhaps take the chance to ride a cable car to sample the stunning views from Jakobshorn or see the sights of the town, including the Botanical Garden Alpinum Schatzalp and the The Kirchner Museum, which offers visitors the unique experience of viewing the art of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner in the place it was created. Dinner is back at the hotel this evening. B, D.

Day 3 Davos to Bern via Lucerne

After breakfast begin your journey to Bern, taking in the delights of lovely Lucerne on the way. First transfer to Brunnen from where you will enjoy gliding across Lake Lucerne to the city which shares its name. Back on dry land, enjoy free time at leisure to explore this picturesque lakeside city backed by snow-capped mountains. Keep an eye out for somewhere to have lunch at your own expense. Don't miss the 14th-century water tower or the chance to walk across the world's oldest wooden footbridge to the charming old town. Here you'll find the oldest baroque church in Switzerland as you explore the narrow streets. Continue on to the capital this afternoon where you will stay for two nights at a locally rated 4-star hotel, on a half-board basis. Dinner is at the hotel tonight. B, D

Day 4 Bern

Join an included walking tour of the beautifully preserved historic city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, after breakfast. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to explore this picturesque city. B, D.

Day 5 Bern to Basel


After breakfast begin your journey to Basel, where you will transfer to your ship, Dutch Melody, which is moored there. Enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board this evening as you spend the night cruising towards Breisach. B, D

Day 6 Breisach


You'll have a day to explore Breisach, an important medieval town of the Holy Roman Empire during the 16th century. It's overlooked by a 12th-century cathedral and known as the 'gateway to the Black Forest.' Perhaps join an optional excursion to picturesque Colmar and the wine town of Riquewhir or an optional tour of Lake Titisee, in the Black Forest. Later cruise towards the French border. B, L, D.

Day 7 Strasbourg

Strasbourg, France

You'll have a full day to explore this delightful French city – the capital of the Alsace region which was restored to France in 1919, after centuries of tug-of-war with Germany. This morning discover its cobbled streets, picturesque half-timbered houses and magnificent cathedral on an included tour and cruise on the canals. This afternoon you might like to join an excursion to the pretty walled city of Obernai, to stroll along the ramparts and admire attractive 13th-century buildings with flower-filled balconies. Your ship departs for Mannheim during dinner. B, L, D.

Day 8 Mannheim to Mainz to Rüdesheim


Pause awhile in Mannheim to join an included visit to the old university city of Heidelberg.

Highlights include the Old Bridge across the River Neckar and the ruined castle high above the city. Its rather random appearance is due to it having been added to through different periods of German architectural styles. Virtually destroyed by lightning in 1764 it was cannibalised by locals who used stones from it in their own houses! Rejoin the ship in Mainz where you spend the afternoon. Perhaps explore the atmospheric Old Town and famous Gutenberg Museum, dedicated to Johannes Gutenberg. Born in the city he was the inventor of the 'moveable type' printing press, and is known as the 'father of modern printing'. Later, cruise to charming Rüdesheim, where you will moor for the night.

This evening you can take a stroll down the cobbled Drosselgasse, a narrow street lined with taverns, to enjoy a glass of local wine or a flagon of ale. You might opt to join an excursion to a local winery to enjoy a tasting or an alternative excursion to see the eccentric self-playing instruments at Siegfried's Museum of Mechanical Music. B, L, D

Please note: On the June 4, 2020, departure you will arrive in Rüdesheim after dinner, meaning the optional excursions will not be available to you. Should you wish to take a stroll into town then be aware that a four-day motorcycle festival will be taking place in the centre of town, which may restrict access to certain areas.

Day 9 Rüdesheim to Koblenz


Cruise a scenic stretch of the Rhine this morning past a collection of fairy-tale castles and villages, and the impressive Lorelei Rock, before arriving for an afternoon in Koblenz. The city sits at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers and is an important centre for the wine industry. Stroll along the pretty riverside promenade, overlooked by the Festung Ehrenbreitstein citadel, which sits on a hill across the river. Perhaps join an optional tour which also visits the fortress. Depart later tonight and cruise overnight to Cologne. B, L, D.

Day 10 Cologne


A morning in Cologne provides the opportunity to visit one of Germany's most popular attractions, the vast Gothic cathedral, started in 1248 to house the relics of the three Magi but not finally completed until 1880! You can see the magnificent shrine to Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar – now among the patron saints of Cologne – behind the high altar. Around lunchtime you'll leave for Amsterdam. B, L, D.

Day 11 Amsterdam

Boats line a canal in Amsterdam

Arrive in the Dutch capital, rightly popular for its friendly welcome, picturesque canals, world-class museums and galleries and laid-back cafes and bars, this morning. Perhaps take an optional excursion to gain a comprehensive overview of the city on a combined coach tour and canal cruise. This afternoon anther optional excursion visits Volendam, Edam and the Katwoude Cheese Farm. Your ship remains moored in Amsterdam overnight. B, L, D

Please note: On the July 30, 2020 departure your ship will instead moor in Utrecht this morning and you will transfer to Amsterdam by coach, a journey of approximately one hour subject to traffic conditions. You can return to the ship in Utrecht for lunch, or take a packed lunch and return later in the afternoon. You will moor in Utrecht overnight before disembarking there on the morning of Day 12 to begin your journey back to the UK.
