Itinerary
Spirit of the Rhine

Travel to Düsseldorf and embark Spirit of the Rhine.

Depart 1700.
Düsseldorf is famed for its Old Town. The narrow backstreets are home to the Gothic St Lambertus church with its twisted tower and the Burgplatz (square) features a Schlossturm (palace tower). Nearby, the Rhine embankment promenade offers a sweeping view of Düsseldorf's skyline and the Oberkassel Rhine banks.
This morning you can explore the city independently using our complimentary shuttle service. An included tour of Düsseldorf this afternoon offers a relaxing way to see some of the highlights.

Arrive Nijmegen, 0800. Depart 1400. Arrive Utrecht, 2000.
Located on the Waal River, historic Nijmegen can trace its roots back to Roman times. One of the city’s museums, the Valkhof Museum, is situated on the site of an old Roman encampment. Other attractions include the De Waagh, the original market weigh house, located in the city centre, where the cobbled streets are also home to a number of street cafes and the distinctive tower of St Stephen’s church.

Depart Utrecht, 1800. Arrive Amsterdam, 2100.
Take our complimentary shuttle service into Utrecht to explore the medieval centre of the city, which is overlooked by the 14th-century Domtoren bell tower. Opposite the tower on Domplein square is the Gothic Cathedral of St Martin.
Each corner of the city hides a quirky museum, art gallery, little church or a view of the city’s network of canals. This evening you’ll enjoy dinner before transferring by coach to the Ziggo Dome Arena in Amsterdam, where you’ll take your seat for the André Rieu concert.

Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, started life as a fishing village in the 13th century. Among the most interesting sights are the Royal Palace on Dam Square, the floating flower market, the Central Railway Station, which is built on thousands of wooden piles, and the grand 19th-century Rijksmuseum. Tree-shaded canals, historic bridges, colourful cafes, gabled buildings and plenty of bicycles combine to create an atmosphere that is unique to this city.
This evening, enjoy an included cruise along Amsterdam’s canals during the city’s Light Festival, when large-scale light sculptures are illuminated against the backdrop of the city.

Depart Amsterdam, 0800.
Arrive Hoorn, 1300. Depart 2000.
The harbour town of Hoorn, once home to the founders of the Dutch East India Company, boasts many historic buildings as a result of its early seafaring wealth. Notably the State Council building, which houses the Westfries Museum and its collection of ceramic tiles, silver, china and model ships.

Arrive Zaandam, 0800. Depart 1400.
Arrive Amsterdam, 1600.
Set on the banks of the Zaan river, the town of Zaandam features distinctly Dutch architecture. This morning an included excursion visits the historic village of Zaanse Schans. The Zaan region was an industrial area and its hundreds of windmills were used in the production of a wide variety of different items.
Disembark Spirit of the Rhine and begin your return journey.
