Day 3 Budapest to Esztergom

Esztergom

Begin your cruise this morning along the Danube to Esztergom, arriving late this morning. An impressive basilica dominates the skyline, sitting high above the town and Danube River, however there's more to this town than this mighty domed structure – the country's first king, St Stephen, was born here in 975 and it was the royal seat from the late 10th to the mid-13th centuries. Perhaps learn more about Esztergom and the nearby village of Szentendre on an optional excursion this afternoon. Depart early this evening, sailing into Slovakian waters and to Bratislava.

Esztergom Hungary Europe

Day 4 Bratislava 🎧

Bratislava Castle

Founded over 2,000 years ago Bratislava is now the capital of Slovakia. It was also capital of Hungary for a while during the late Middle Ages, showing how the chequered histories of these central European countries are inter-related. Spend the day exploring the city's old quarter, or join an optional excursion and discover more… Set sail before dinner.

Bratislava Slovakia Europe

Day 5 Linz 🎧

Linz

After a leisurely day cruising you'll arrive in Linz this afternoon. Take the chance to explore this historic and cultural gem independently. Wander through charming cobblestone streets admiring architecture that spans the centuries, and visit Main Square, one of the biggest in Central Europe. You might like to visit the new cathedral with its towering spire or take in some culture at the striking Lentos Art Museum. Set sail late tonight and cruise towards Passau.

Linz Austria Europe

Day 6 Passau 🎧

Passau

Arrive this morning and spent a full day in Passau, which is set at the confluence of the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz. The city can be explored on an optional walking tour this morning. Cruise overnight towards Melk.

Passau Bavaria Germany Europe

Day 7 Melk to Dürnstein 🎧

Melk

Perhaps visit the Benedictine abbey for which Melk is justly famous on an optional excursion this morning. Enjoy some free time to explore before setting sail for Dürnstein, which is set in the stunning Wachau Valley, around midday. The town is one of the most picturesque on the Danube River. Spend the rest of the afternoon here at leisure before sailing this evening towards Vienna.

Day 8 Vienna

Vienna State Opera

Disembark Amadeus Royal after breakfast and transfer to the 4-star Mercure Grand Hotel Biedermeier or a similar hotel for a three-night stay on a half-board basis, with one dinner at a local restaurant and two dinners at the hotel. Vienna is the artistic capital of Austria: home to the waltz, coffee houses, the Prater amusement park and one of the world's finest opera houses. Enjoy a tour of this beautiful city en-route to your hotel. A panoramic coach tour includes the Ringstrasse and Opera House, a walking tour of the historic centre and a coffee and cake stop in one of the Viennese coffee houses.

Tonight, a traditional three-course Austrian dinner will be served at the atmospheric Augustinerkeller restaurant, which is located in one of the monastery cellars of Vienna's Old Town.

Day 9 Vienna 🎧

Gardens of Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna

Today you can explore independently or opt to join an excursion to the Schönbrunn Palace, in the west of Vienna. The palace was transformed from a royal hunting lodge and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
