Machu Picchu Overland Tour

Are the overland excursions suitable for me?
The tours will be extremely strenuous with long walks, uneven ground, numerous steps and steep gradients, and long periods of standing should be expected. As a result, an excellent level of physical fitness and ability is needed. Any guests with pre-existing conditions should consider the excursion suitability very carefully.
The Machu Picchu tour visits areas of high altitude, up to 12,000ft. Due to issues such as altitude sickness, guests are advised to consult their doctor prior to considering the tours suitability and take recommended precautions.

Will there be a Saga Escort on the overland excursion with us?
Yes – in addition to your local tour guide, a Saga Escort will accompany you throughout the tour.

Can I leave my personal belongings on board the ship while I am away?
Yes, your cabin remains yours whilst you are away from the ship and any items you wish to leave on board can be stored safely in your cabin.

Will I get a discount for the nights I’m not going to be on board Spirit of Adventure?
Unfortunately not. Should you decide to participate in the overland excursions, this will be at the additional advertised cost and no discount will apply to your cruise holiday.

What will my luggage allowance be?
There will be a luggage allowance of 20kgs per person for hold luggage, in addition to one carry-on bag. For your convenience, we recommend travelling with a cabin-sized suitcase or bag, rather than a large suitcase as you will be responsible for your own luggage whilst travelling. Cabin luggage can be a maximum size of 55 x 35 x 20 cm.

What clothes do I need to bring?
For Iguazu Falls, the weather is expected to be hot and humid. It can be cooler in the mornings and evenings. We recommend wearing light clothing during the day and layers for the mornings and evenings. Please consider bringing waterproof hiking shoes. For Machu Picchu, the weather will likely be cooler due to the altitude. We recommend that wear trekking clothing, layers and waterproof hiking shoes.
The on-board Explore Ashore team can assist during the cruise with latest forecasts and advice closer to the excursion departures.

Will I need to take my passport?
Yes, when leaving the ship, you must take your passport. Your passport must have a minimum of six months validity and at least two blank pages to travel.

What local currency should I take?
It is always handy to have some local currency, but US$ and credit cards are widely accepted.

Will I need a plug adaptor?
Yes, we recommend an international adaptor should you take any electrical items or need to charge phones and electronic devices.

Should I take anything extra with me?
We recommend taking insect repellent, suncream and sensible clothing choices (e.g. hats) with you on the tour.

Where can I store medication?
There is a fridge in the hotel room, however, please consider that you will not be able to refrigerate medication while travelling to and from the ship.

Will I be able to refill my Saga water bottle?
No, bottled water will be provided for you throughout the tour.

What will the board basis be during my overland excursion?
Meals and drinks are supplied in line with the advertised itinerary on a full board basis. Any additional food or drinks outside of this published information will be at your expense.

Can I request a twin room?
Double rooms are arranged as standard, but twin rooms are available on a request basis.

Can I upgrade my flight seat or select my seat?
No, economy flight seats will be provided, and it is not possible to upgrade. Your seat on the flight will be allocated to you.

Can I upgrade my room type?
No, please refer to the itinerary information for the confirmed room type for your overland tour. It is not possible to amend or upgrade.

Are gratuities included in the excursion?
Gratuities are not included but are entirely at your own discretion.
