Arrive in Norway’s far northern reaches where, at this time of year, the sun doesn’t set. Be greeted this morning by the breathtaking Arctic wilderness of Longyearbyen, the largest settlement in the stunning Svalbard archipelago. Set at the end of the Advent Fjord and framed by flat-topped, snow-covered mountains, the town was established as a permanent settlement in 1906 to exploit the local coal reserves.

Barentsburg Svalbard

⚓ Arrive 0700. Depart 1900.

Barentsburg lies in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, almost halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole. The small town was set up by a Soviet mining company, and it is still an active settlement. The town is an obscure slice of Soviet-era Russia that harks back to the Cold War when Russia needed a foothold in the West. You'll have time to explore this fascinating place independently and interact with the welcoming townsfolk.
