Take a drive around the rock of Gibraltar. You start the tour by heading towards the southernmost point of Gibraltar, Europa Point, and the sight of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Great Britain. Here, alight from your tour vehicle to photograph the world's busiest shipping lane, the meeting point of the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and two continents. 

Next, drive past Princess Caroline’s Battery to Winston Churchill Avenue for a short stop at the road which crosses the runway of Gibraltar International Airport. Afterwards, you return to the ship.

Discover the iconic Rock of Gibraltar and explore the remarkable St Michael’s Cave. Depart the port and drive past the airport towards the British–Spanish frontier before continuing to Europa Point, Gibraltar’s southernmost tip and home to the only Trinity Lighthouse located outside Great Britain. 

There will be a chance to pause here to take in the panoramic views. Next, continue up to the Upper Rock to visit St Michael’s Cave, which has recently benefited from a two million pound transformation. Here you can marvel at the formations of stalactites and stalagmites that fill this natural wonder. Your journey then takes you to King Charles V Wall, where you may encounter Gibraltar’s famous Barbary apes, before returning to your ship.

We have graded this excursion based on the number of steps you will need to negotiate inside the caves. This tour requires a good level of fitness and mobility. Lighting in the cave is dim and coloured for effect.

Join an introductory walk of Gibraltar. A short bus transfer takes you to Casemates Square. Here you will set off on foot and walk along Gibraltar's Main Street to learn about its history during the Moorish, Spanish and British periods. 

Continue past the old Police Station to the Piazza, home to Gibraltar’s former City Hall and the official residence of the Mayor. From there, stroll down Bomb House Lane, passing the Gibraltar Museum and the synagogue before reaching Cathedral Square for an exterior view of the Holy Trinity Cathedral. 

Finally, make your way towards King’s Bastion, once the main battery defending the town and a key position for General Eliott during the Great Siege, before returning to your ship.

Take a snapshot tour of the island with three short photo stops. From the pier, take a short drive will bring you to the Arenal d’en Castell, where you can look forward to a short stop to admire the view over Arenal and the Addaia Fortress.

The drive continues towards Fornells Beach where you will pause for another short photo stop. The final photo stop will be at Monte Toro, the island’s spiritual centre. At the summit of this hill is the Sanctuary of the Mother of God of Toro, run by a Franciscan community of nuns.

There is also a statue of Jesus of the Sacred Heart, whose pedestal is dedicated to those Menorcans who died during the Moroccan war. Afterwards, return to your ship.

As you stroll, your guide will introduce you to the history of the island and delve deeper into the influences of different cultures that have joined the population here. Next, you will pause outside the St Maria Church to admire the exterior pillars and side chapels before passing by Teatro Principal De Mao – built in 1829, titled Spain’s oldest opera house. After your visit, you will head back to the ship by foot with your guide, taking in the passing sights one last time.

Visit the port town of Ciutadella and megalithic chamber tomb, Naveta des Tudons.

Leaving the ship, board your coach and travel to your first stop, Naveta des Tudons. This megalithic burial chamber was used between 200 and 750 BC, and you will have the opportunity to learn about the tomb’s history during your visit. After taking some photographs, your tour continues to Ciutadella, the old capital of the island.

Best explored on foot, on arrival begin a guided walking tour of the city, which will pass the cathedral, which was built on the foundations of the High Mosque that existed in Ciutadella during the Arab rule.

After your walking tour you will have some free time before the return drive to the port by coach.

Enjoy the sights of Ajaccio and the city’s surroundings during this panoramic excursion. Leaving the pier, begin your drive along the Cours Napoleon passing the main square. 

Pause at Austerlitz Casone Square for a photo stop, where you can see a monument to Napoleon – a replica of the statue at Les Invalides in Paris. Leaving Ajaccio, travel along the Route des Sanguinaires, pausing for another photo stop, this time offering a view of the Gulf of Ajaccio, with the Isle Sanguinaires in the background. Then reboard the coach and head back to ship.

There is a slope to negotiate to reach Austerlitz Casone Square. At the end of the tour, you can choose to either head back the ship on the coach or be dropped off at the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral to explore Ajaccio independently, making your own way back to the ship. If you choose to do this, the walk back to the ship is approximately half a mile.

Discover Ajaccio's key sights on this walking tour. Setting off from the pier on foot, you will first spot the town hall and Palm Tree Square before passing by the cathedral. Completed in 1593 and dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, this site is also where Napoleon was christened in 1771.

The walk then continues to the front of Maison Bonaparte situated in the town centre. Napoleon was born here in 1769 and lived in the house until he reached the age of nine. The Bonaparte family had owned the property since 1682, and in the late 1960’s, it was gifted to the French government by Prince Victor Napoleon – becoming a national museum.

After your walk through Ajaccio’s Old Town, return to your ship.

Take an introductory drive pausing for a photo stop with views of Capo Caccia and in the village of Fertilia. The journey begins heading towards Capo Caccia Belvedere, passing through the rural area of Santa Maria La Palma. 

Pause for a short photo stop at the Capo Caccia viewpoint, where dramatic cliffs and sea views create an ideal backdrop. The drive continues past Nuraghe Palmavera, before reaching Fertilia. This small village was built during the Mussolini era to house Istrian and Yugoslavian refugees. After a short stop in the village, return to your ship in Alghero.

Enjoy a scenic drive and guided tour of the Nuraghe Palmavera archaeological site. Depart the pier and admire the scenery along the coastal road towards Capo Caccia Belvedere. Pause for a short photo stop at the Capo Caccia viewpoint before continuing to Nuraghe Palmavera. 

From the bus parking area, walk to the archaeological site where a guided tour will introduce you to the history and significance of these ancient remains, dating back to a civilisation that existed here about 1300-1200 BC. The main tower is an excellent example of Sardinia’s earliest inhabitants, who remain a prehistoric enigma. 

Ancient writers called them the “Nuraghic” people, named after their stone dwellings, the “Nuraghi”. These structures are unique to Sardinia, just as the Aztec pyramids are to Mexico. Afterwards, reboard the coach and drive back to your ship in Alghero.

Take an introductory walking tour of Alghero. Head off on foot towards the historical centre of Alghero, entering through the ancient city walls to reach Piazza Civica, the heart of the old town. Here, you will see the exterior of Piazza Civica, a fine example of 16th century Catalan-Aragonese Architecture. 

The walk continues past the exterior of the cathedral before winding through Alghero’s narrow streets. Head along Carlo Alberto Street where the San Francesco Church is located, one of the town’s most notable landmarks. At the end of the tour, you can walk back with the guide to the ship or enjoy some more free time at leisure before making your own way back to the ship.

Enjoy a scenic drive and visit to Almuñécar. Begin by driving along the western coast through La Herradura, a quaint town known for its horseshoe shaped bay. To the east, Punta de la Mona features a rocky promontory adorned with luxury villas. Further along the coastline is Marina del Este, a bustling port known for its water sports scene and picturesque coves dotted with sailboats. Next, head to Almuñécar. Founded by the Phoenicians in the eighth century BC, Almuñécar thrived during the Roman times. Its current name, however originated from its long Moorish occupation. Here you will have approximately 45 minutes of free time before heading back to Motril.

Take an introductory tour from Motril. Departing from the pier, begin with a drive along the Paseo Marítimo and Playa Poniente, pausing for a short photo stop at the beachfront promenade. The drive continues towards the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza, one of the city’s most emblematic landmarks. Located on a hill in Parque de los Pueblos de América, pause for an exterior photo stop and optional walk up to the viewpoint for a closer look at the exterior. Afterwards, return to your ship.

Take an introductory drive with a stop at Cap Spartel and an opportunity to sip Moroccan tea. Followed by a visit to St Andrew’s Church.

Leave the pier and travel along the Corniche towards Cap Spartel. This promontory is located at the northernmost point of the African continent and features a lighthouse first lit in 1860 – still overwatching ships passing Tangier’s coast. Pause here for a photo stop and enjoy a traditional Moroccan tea. Then head back towards Tangier to see a different side of the city at Marshan Square before continuing to Saint Andrew’s church.

This Anglican landmark was built on land gifted to Queen Victoria by Sultan Moulay Hassan I in 1883. Blending Moorish and English architecture, its interior is decorated with Arabic script and other biblical texts reflecting Tangier’s multicultural past.

Discover Tangier’s Kasbah and Medina on this introductory walking tour. The Kasbah is one of the most iconic areas of Tangier, a historic fortified quarter perched above the city with sweeping views over the surrounding coastline. A short coach transfer will bring you to the entrance of the Kasbah, from here you will head on foot with your guide.

Your walk will take you uphill through the narrow streets of the Kasbah to see the old part of the city. As you descend back downhill, you will see the Grand Socco, a historic roundabout square linking the old medina to the new part of the city. Continue your walk into the bustling Medina. Then you will pause for a Moroccan tea and pastry at Palais Zahia Riad, before returning to your ship by coach.

Please note: Expect to walk at least one-and-a-quarter miles. You must be physically fit to participate as the walk through the Kasbah is strenuous and the route may change on the day. The terrain in the medina will be uneven with cobblestones and steep inclines. Throughout the walk there will be many, frequent steps to negotiate (20 to 25 steps at a time). There will be three steps at the refreshment venue. The coach transfer will take approximately 20 minutes each way.

Begin by travelling past the British/Spanish Land Frontier. Your first stop is Europa Point, site of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Britain, where you can savour dramatic views of the Atlantic merging with the Mediterranean.

Next, you will be taken to the nature reserve, home of the Northern Defences Sector, where you may be able to catch a glimpse of Gibraltar’s most famous residents, the mischievous Barbary apes. At the World War Two Tunnels you can visit the areas that housed the hospital, power station, military headquarters and accommodation for nearly 10,000 troops and civilians.

Go in search of dolphins on this boat trip.

Gibraltar’s bay boasts three species of dolphin the Common Dolphin, Striped Dolphin and Bottle-nosed. After departing from your ship, take the short bus transfer to the ‘Dolphin Adventurer’ pleasure cruiser. Then, after setting off into the bay, learn about the history of this tiny colony, and you will be given an insight into the marine life of the bay from the crew.

After landing, return transport will be available back to the ship, or you can choose to walk into town for shopping and a little independent exploration before making your own way back to the ship.

Please note: This excursion involves approximately 300 yards of walking to reach the vessel and a couple of steps to board the boat unassisted. We recommend that you take some warm clothing for the boat ride. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. The boat ride will last approximately one-and-a-half hours. Take a drive around Gibraltar and visit a distillery to learn about the art of Gin distilling.

From the quayside, travel north towards Gibraltar’s unique airport runway to the border between this small British Overseas territory and Spain. Proceed along the outskirts of town, passing the American War Memorial and The Trafalgar Cemetery to arrive at Europa Point.

After a panoramic tour, you will be dropped off in front of the Bristol Hotel in Main Street, where you will be greeted by the Distillery Manager who will walk you to the venue. The tour begins with a brief history of the Art of Distilling, plus an insight into gin production before a comprehensive timeline of gin’s chequered past. Enjoy a gin tasting experience, before returning to the port.

Take a drive to Europa Point and visit the Alameda Gardens.

The tour begins with a scenic drive along the shoreline to Europa Point, home to the iconic Trinity Lighthouse. From here, take in sweeping views across the Strait of Gibraltar and capture photos of this historic landmark.

The next stop is the Alameda Gardens, established in 1816 by Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Don. Funded by voluntary contributions, the gardens were laid out with a network of interconnecting paths and terraced beds, built mainly from local limestone. Much of the original design remains intact today, while a collection of historic guns and commemorative busts highlights both the gardens age and Gibraltar’s rich military heritage.

Join your guide, who will point out various flora, sights and wildlife while describing the history of the gardens as you wander around the grounds. Afterwards, return to the ship.

Visit a honey farm and an organic essential oil distillery on the outskirts of Ajaccio.

During this excursion your first visit will be to a honey farm, where you can learn about the benefits of the beehive products as well as taste this unique honey. The local produce comes from a rich biodiversity with more than 2800 vegetal species, 127 of which are endemic to the island. The Mediterranean climate allows bees to gather honey from flowers all year round and for this reason Corsican people have been making honey for centuries.

Your next visit will give you an insight into the organic Essential Oil distillery located close by. Corsica has an abundance of plants and trees, which are used to produce essential oils, floral water and a variety of massage oil for medicinal purposes, aromatherapy and perfumery.

Afterwards return to your ship by coach.

You will walk to the essential oil distillery from the honey farm, this involves crossing the road and negotiating another steep slope. Due to the access of both venues, this excursion has been graded strenuous and is not recommended for those with limited mobility. You will spend approximately 45 minutes at the Honey farm and 45 minutes at the Essential Oil Distillery. You need to remain standing for the entirety of both visits. The walking distance from the pier to the tour vehicle can be up to 350 yards.

Explore Cargese on a guided walk and visit the village of Piana.

From Ajaccio, you will head north to the ancient Greek village of Cargese, gently climbing up the San Sebastiano Pass – offering views over the Sagone Gulf and up to the summit of Monte Cinto. On arrival, set off on a walking tour, where your guide will share the history of this 17th-century village. In 1676 a group of 600 Greeks, fleeing the Turkish invasion of their homeland, sought refuge in Cargese, which has been known ever since as ‘the Greek village’. Cargese is an attractive town of whitewashed houses set high on a rocky promontory overlooking a deep blue bay. In the centre of town you will see two fine churches – one a Roman catholic church boasting ‘trompe l’oeil’ paintings and a view from the terrace, and the other follows the Greek Byzantine tradition.

The tour continues with a drive past one of Corsica’s natural wonders, the rose-coloured cliffs of “Calanches de Piana”, a UNESCO World Heritage site, before stopping in the village of Piana. Afterwards a scenic drive will bring you back to Ajaccio.

Take a scenic drive to the Prunelli Gorges with a short photo stop at Lake Tolla and a break to taste local snacks.

Your tour starts with a drive to the Prunelli Gorges, during which your guide will tell you about Corsica’s history, geography and unique traditions. Pass the Prunelli Gorges, where the Prunelli River cuts through jagged granite hills. Stop to take in the view at Lake Tolla, before continuing the drive through the villages of Ocana and Tolla. Then, alight your coach for a tasting of local products before the return drive to your ship.

The drive through Prunelli gorges to Tolla Lake will take approximately one-and-a-quarter hours. The snack will depend on the season and may include three types of cured meat (coppa, lonzu, dry sausages), Corsican cheeses served with jam, bread and canistrelli (Corsican dry biscuit). The walking distance from the pier to the tour vehicle can be up to 350 yards.

Explore the attractions of Castelsardo and enjoy a guided walk through the town. Depart from the pier and drive towards Castelsardo, pausing for a short photo stop en route at Elephant rock. Sculpted by the ever-present winds, this unusual stone formation resembles an elephant’s head and trunk.

Then continue to Castelsardo, where, on arrival at the parking area, a local city bus will take you to up the hill to the historic town centre. This fortified town is situated on a promontory with panoramas of the Gulf of Asinara to the west and views of the Gallura peaks to the east. The centre of this village is built on a tall crag that slopes into the sea.

Today, Castelsardo is a popular tourist destination, known for its traditional handicrafts, particularly baskets woven from wild palms. You will enjoy a guided walk through the town, including a stop by the little Weaving Museum housed within the old Doria Castle.

Discover the caves of Nerja and visit the sea town.

Leaving the port of Motril, travel along the busy coastal road to Nerja, a seaside town at the eastern end of the Costa del Sol. Although now a popular resort, it has retained its Moorish appearance, with picturesque streets of whitewashed houses.

Nerja is most famous for its prehistoric caves, about two miles from the town centre. The caves were discovered by a group of boys from the nearby village of Maro in 1959 and are now one of Andalusia’s most popular tourist attractions. Formed by underground rivers and natural calcification five million years ago, this three-mile cave system features dramatic stalactites and stalagmites. Explore the open sections as your guide shares its geological history.

After exploring the caves, continue to Nerja where you will begin a short walking tour. Stroll through its quaint streets lined with whitewashed buildings.

You will then have some time at leisure to explore. Perhaps head to the Balcón de Europa to take in the views before the return drive to your ship.

Please note: Expect to walk approximately three- and three-quarter miles on this excursion. There are approximately 450 steps to negotiate inside the caves. Inside the caves it will be dark; the ground will be uneven and may be wet and slippery. You will spend approximately one hour at the caves. The average temperature inside the cave is 19 degrees Celsius. The visit to Nerja will consist of a short, guided walk lasting approximately 20 minutes followed by approximately 30 minutes of free time, where any further walking is at your discretion. This tour is not suitable for those with limited mobility, or those who suffer from claustrophobia. It is forbidden to touch or alter the geological formations.

Explore the city of Granada with time at leisure to explore independently.

Leave Motril behind and head inland to Granada, perched 2,100 feet above sea level at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. Once ruled by the Moors from the eighth century until 1492, Granada is packed with history and panoramic views.

On arrival you will have approximately four hours to explore this city on your own. Perhaps wander through the streets of the Albaicín, the historic Arab quarter offering views of Alhambra Palace at Plaza San Nicolas. Alternatively, explore the central areas of the city, where you will find the cathedral and the Royal Chapel.

After exploring Granda at your leisure, it is time to reboard the coach for the return drive to your ship in Motril.

Please note: This is a transfer to Granada and is unguided. An escort will accompany you on the coach journey only, but will not provide commentary. The drive from Motril to Granada will take approximately one-and-a-half hours each way and you will be dropped off and picked up at Paseo de la Bomba, located approximately three-quarters of a mile away from Plaza Nueva. Your visit to Granada is independent, and you will have approximately four hours of free time. The duration of free time can be impacted by traffic conditions. We recommend that you wear flat, walking shoes, as the streets in Granada, especially in the old part of the city, are mostly uneven with cobblestones.

Visit the UNESCO-listed Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens.

Whilst here you can wander through the courtyards, including the famed Patio de los Leones, where water flows from the mouths of twelve lions. Next, visit the Generalife, the Sultans’ summer retreat, complete with terraces, grottoes, and fountains that bring the beauty of the past to life.

Aftwerwards, rejoin your coach for the journey back to your ship.

Discover Motril, visit the Preindustrial Sugarcane Museum and taste rum at Bodegas Ron Montero.

Start with a short transfer from the pier to Motril, where your walking tour begins at the Sanctuary Nuestra Senora de la Cabeza. Built on the ruins of a Moorish castle, this site was once the summer residence of Queen Aixa AlHorra. In the old town, see the Mayor de la Encarnación Church, dating back to 1510, before passing landmarks such as the Town Hall and the 19th-century Calderón de la Barca Theatre.

Next, visit the Preindustrial Sugarcane Museum, set on the ruins of a 16th-century sugar mill behind the ‘Casa de la Palma’. The museum showcases how sugarcane was produced and traded between the 13th and 18th centuries, offering a glimpse into Spain’s early sugar industry.

Next, visit Bodega Ron Montero, a family-run distillery founded in 1963 with deep roots in the sugarcane industry. Learn about its history and the rum-making process before sampling the run.

Afterwards, reboard the coach for your short return drive to the ship.

Embark on a journey to the enchanting Chefchaouen, a blue-washed city with a history of Spanish influence, located in the heart of the Rif Mountains. After a drive from the pier to Chefchaouen, you will head off on foot to explore the 18th century Old Kasbah in the Medina, built by ruler Moulay Ismail.

Whilst in the Medina, visit the ethnographic museum containing antique weapons, musical instruments and photographs of the old town. Your guided walk through the narrow streets then continues to the cobbled main square Plaza Uta el-Hammam where you can enjoy some time at leisure. Perhaps soak up the local atmosphere, shop for local crafts or unwind in a nearby cafe.

Having explored Chefchaouen, you will then head to a local restaurant for a traditional Moroccan lunch before the drive back to your ship in Tangier.

The terrain in the old medina will be uneven with cobblestones, steep inclines and frequent steps to negotiate. You will spend approximately one and quarter hours walking through the Medina. This excursion is not suitable for those with limited mobility. You will have approximately 45 minutes of free time, where any further walking is at your discretion. Sample lunch menu: Moroccan salad, tagine with meat and vegetables/chicken couscous, fruit salad, Moroccan cake and tea. A soft drink is included and alcoholic beverages are not available. Explore UNESCO-listed Tétouan with a stroll through the Medina and a visit to the Bab Akla School of Traditional Arts and Crafts.

Drive from the pier to Tétouan – standing on a rocky plateau detached from the southern flank of Mount Dersa. This city’s architecture reflects a unique blend of Arabic and Spanish styles, a testament to the town’s rich, bicultural ancestry.

On arrival, set off on foot to first visit the Bab Akla School of Traditional Arts and Crafts. Founded in 1919 under the direction of Hajj Abdeslam Bennouna, the school has produced some of Morocco’s best painters over the past half century and keeps alive traditional art forms in the modern world.

Your guided walk continues through the Medina which has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1997. Pause outside the elegant Royal Palace at Place Hassan II Square, taking in its wide esplanade, Arab-Islamic architecture and ornate gate.

Your tour concludes with a stop at a local Riad to enjoy a traditional Moroccan tea and pastry. Afterwards, rejoin your coach for the return drive to your ship in Tangier.

Visit Cap Spartels lighthouse and stroll through the quaint Donabo Garden.

Journey from the pier along the Corniche to Cap Spartel. This promontory is located at the northernmost point of the African continent. The lighthouse was built in 1860 and you will have an opportunity to climb the spiral staircase to the top, to enjoy a 360-degree view of the surroundings.

Next, a short drive will bring you to Donabo Gardens, nestled just outside the city it opened in 2022 featuring a collection of small gardens, each with their own distinctive personality, purpose and scent – housed within the broader Donabo garden. Stroll around the landscaped paths before pausing for a Moroccan Tea.

As you return to Tangier you will have some time at leisure at the Place du 9 Avril 1947 (April 9 Square) also known as Grand Socco before returning to your ship.

Please note: Expect to walk at least 500 yards. To climb to the top of the Lighthouse there are 112 steps to negotiate (224 in total, up and down) on a spiral staircase which gets narrower towards the top, therefore we have graded this excursion Strenuous. You will spend approximately 40 minutes at the lighthouse, one-and-a-quarter hours at Donabo Garden and 30 minutes at April 9 Square. Depending on the time of year, different flowers may be in bloom. Any further walking during free time is at your discretion.
