Cruise to the Adriatic, a melting pot of history and culture
A variety of historic sights await you on this all-inclusive cruise to the Mediterranean and Adriatic in 2028 at a time when the region’s landmarks will be less busy with tourists and the cooler climate will make exploring much easier. Discover Gibraltar’s Palladian architecture and Malta’s fortificatons, built by the Knights of St John in the 16th century. Cruise into the Adriatic to visit Trieste, an Italian port with a piazza modelled on St Mark’s in Venice. Having been part of the Roman, Venetian and Habsburg empires, the city has many architectureal and cultural layers to uncover. Nearby, the Slovenian city of Koper has a compact old town with cobblestone lanes and historic squares, and a scenic coastal path that stretches from the marina to the Badaševica River.
On the Croatian coast, call at the elegant seaside town of Opatija and Split, home to the Diocletian’s Palace and a gateway to picturesque Krka National Park. Continue to Montenegro, where Kotor sits at the head of the Bay of Kotor, a 17-mile long fjord surrounded by mountains. Explore this petite medieval walled town with its Romanesque churches and UNESCO-listed Venetian mansions before returning to the Mediterranean, where Sardinia awaits. The approach by sea to Cagliari is impressive, as the city’s elegant domes and medieval fortifications come into view. Grand churches, watchtowers and shuttered townhouses rise over the capital’s seven hills and the cityscape is crowned by Il Castello, the medieval hilltop old town. The final port of call on this all-inclusive cruise to the Mediterranean in 2028 is Portugal’s historic capital city Lisbon, where you can see the UNESCO-listed sites of Jeronimos Monastery and Bélem Tower, and wander along the cobbled streets of LIsbon’s oldest district, Alfama.
