Cruise to Madeira, Porto Santo and the Azores
Scattered in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores is made up of nine islands, and this all-inclusive cruise in 2026 visits three of them: Terceira, Faial and Sao Miguel, the largest island. Look forward to exploring volcanic landscapes incorporating craters, geothermal lakes, bubbling fumeroles and hot springs. The waters surrounding the islands are a haven for wildlife including whales and dolphins.
Continue to contrast the ‘floating garden in the Atlantic’ Madeira with its tiny sister island, Porto Santo, where the former home of Christopher Columbus is now a museum.
The return journey includes a visit to the Portuguese mainland and Leixoes, gateway to Oporto. Here the old town is brimming with historic buildings, such as the 12th-century cathedral and neoclassical Stock Exchange.

After passing a former whaling port, continue along an unpaved coastal road. Here you will see a lighthouse, built to replace the previous one that was destroyed during the eruption. On your way towards Varadouro, you will walk past several spots that provide wonderful coastal views.
Arriving at the bay of Varadouro, see its collection of natural swimming pools, formed between black volcanic rocks. Due to its mild climate, Varadouro is a popular spot for summerhouses, as well as winegrowing. The tour vehicle will meet you here and bring you back to Horta.
